I wanted to reread some info on Field's webpage this morning but found it is not available. I haven't seen him post here for long time. Has anyone heard from him lately?

Althea, I pay my ISP an annual fee for the space for my web page. But that fee permits only so many hits each month. So, when that limit is reached, the ISP blocks the site until the first of the next month. I regret it has to be that way, but the last time the fee came due, I paid the minimum bcause I just didn't feel that I should have to continue paying the entire additional amount required to keep it active 30 days a month.

Thanks Field. I'll check back May 1.

Field, why do you recommend adding 2 cups of iron sulphate to Sandy Clay-Loam? Is this primarily to adjust ph or address iron deficiency likely to be found in that soil type?

Althea, that recommendation applies to the few sandy-clay soils found in north central Texas, as noted. Hereabouts, these soils can be (and usually are) both alkaline and slightly deficient in iron. And this is a quick fix until the equilibrium content of organic matter can be established. That recommendation would apply elsewhere only if similar conditions prevail.
