Small catepilars on my ROSES!

I was out inspecting my roses this mornign, which are growing, growing, growing - and found small catepilar looking things (almost like an inch worm) on most all of my roses! They have eaten through ever leaf it seems.

I'm very new to gardening and growing roses - this is my second season. First season they came from a nursery, so I didn't experience this last year.

Anyway, can you please direct me with a plan of action?

I have chosen to be organic about all of my roses and garden, but I'm not sure what to do. My mother told me to go out and by "the real stuff" (a chemical) and kill the little buggers.

I don't want to do that. Please help with any advice or direction. Thanks.

Most likely you have the Rose Slug, the larva of a sawfly. If the numbers are not very high the most effective means of control is to squish them between your thumb and forefinger, Insecticidal Soaps work if you are sure to hit the wee buggers and not just spray the leaf, Neem Oil products also work but since they are broad spectrum poisons they along with any pyrethrins should be last resort controls.
