 o
options for treating rust

Posted by amcorrigan 6 Canada (My Page) on

We have had a cold wet spring and one of my roses has developed what looks to be rust (small red spots on leaves and canes). What are my options for treating this without resorting to chemicals? I looked through previous messages and saw mostly sulphur, which I will look for at the store. I also read something about listerine? What's that about?

Thanks for your help,

Anne Marie

RE: options for treating rust

Anne Marie, we had terrible rust a few years ago after a similarly cold and wet spring. I made a solution of milk - I think it was 1/3 c milk to 3 c water. It was 100% effective, I did a big clean up of the dead leaves, and the rust has never come back. Last week I tried the 50% listerine solution for powdery mildew which has also done the trick.
