Sawfly larae hunting

I thought I would share a method I discovered for finding the little green "worms" on the light green leaf underside (which I then squish with my fingers).

I go out at night with a flashlight. Holding the light under the leaves makes the shadow of even the tiniest ones show up. You must hold it so the softer area of the light is shining through. The bright center is too bright--at least on my lantern-type light.

It's so much easier on the back and hands than leaning under to look up or by fingering every leaf. And it's so satisfying to catch them before they have decimated the leaf!

The only way I can see to get this thread to proceed down the queue is to respond to it. Thus, this is a response.
