Dolomitic limestone has two potential uses in the landscape. It can raise soil pH and it can add magnesium to the soil. Rose prefer acidic soil, so unless your soil has a very low pH, I wouldn't use it.

I don't know where in MS you are, but for the most part we have very acidic clays and silts. Use of lime is most always indicated. Have you had a pH test? Our native soil here is around 5.4-5.9 and I lay on the lime every fall.

I think South Florida soil has a high pH. The land used to be coral rock, which people tell me is limestone. My container plants in potting mix tend to have low pH and Mg deficiencies. I wonder if I can take the little rocks from the ground and use it. It's hard to find dolomitic lime around here in stores.

Neil, limestone needs to be finely powdered before it can have much effect, because it doesn't dissolve easily. I can see that there wouldn't be much demand for lime of any kind in Miami. My uncle used to blast holes in the lime rock to plant his roses. Still, I bet somebody sells Dolomite. It's very common here.

Dolomitic limestone is calcium and magnesium, versus calcitic limestone that only has calcium. Whether to use either would depend on what your soil test results called for.
Roses will do most bestest growing in a soil well endowed with organic matter that is evenly moist and well drained, and that will provide everything necessary for good growth.
