Birds eat Japanses beetles?

| Do most birds eat Japanses beetles?
I ask because I have no JBs on my roses (however, I do have mildew) or my other plants. We live on a tidal river and there is a wild black mulberry tree growing along the bank. Over the past few weeks the berries have begun ripening and our tree is always loaded w/birds. A connection?

| There were discussions on the Roses Forum recently about this. Yes, some species like starlings, orioles, sparrows, and other songbirds eat JB. Within that setting, you’ve got the fringe benefit from the birds. I use birdbaths to draw them here. I’m thinking to also get birdhouses for next year. |

Lee Valley Tools has a Japanese Beetle catcher in their catalogue and on their web site. It's the third picture from the left-top row. Sandy http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&cat=2&p=51555 |

My chickens thing JB's are candy. If I have some in a jar, and they can see the bugs, the chickens will follow me like puppies. Cheryl |
