topaz jewel and thrips

I have a beautiful topaz jewel rose, but unfortunately, it seems to be afflicted by thrips, causing petal drop- the same problem with a blanc de coubert. Should I just replace it with a darker rose which would be less vulnerable? It is a bed with reds, yellows and peach.

| I think you are missing the point. Are you keeping your roses well watered and fertilized? Second, I would remove flowers and buds from affected plants to prevent the spread. A lot of this has to do with cultural pratices. One of the better treatments is spraying effected plants with horticultural oil which is an accepted organic pratice. Thrips are also vulnerable to tobacco sprays. Personally, I have never heard of thrips preferring one rose over another. |
