Favorite rose company?

Hello Gardeners,

I'm an organic gardener in West Texas who is daydreaming about her Christmas list. I've been rigorous about keeping my little garden organic, but less than perfect about ordering only organic plants--mostly, but not all.

Well, it's Christmas, and I'm thinking about asking for gift certificates to an organic company for the new roses I'm wanting (I've ordered from J&P and Chamblee's Roses in the past.) I'm thinking of Perle d'Or, Souvenir la Malmaison, and maybe Memorial Day--anything really, really fragrant.

Would anyone care to share their favorite company with me, or do others buy non-organic roses but then treat them organically?

Happy holidays!

RE: Favorite rose company?

I don't know of any vendors that are specifically organic, more likely the case is the latter, "buy non-organic roses but then treat them organically".

You'll want to go with roses that are disease resistant. Roses in the hybrid tea (HT) class are not likely to be disease resistant, and may not respond well to organic treatment for disease. A few threads you may want to view are Blackspot resistant roses, Biggest blooms on disease resistant plants...you name 'em!!, Looking for a small, disease-resistant, floriferous rosebush, Create an Earthkind list for us.

Some vendors that you can check with are Ashdown Roses, Almost Heaven Roses, Moore's Roses and Countryside Roses.
