Louis Stoddard roses

Louis Stoddard created a number of R. Arkansana hybrids such as Restless Native, Native Wedding and others. He is, unfortunately, no longer with us. Just as unfortunate, his roses appear to no longer be here either. Does anyone know of his roses existing anywhere? I would truly enjoy finding them and studying them. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Propagation of Standard Roses

I have grafted 7 standard roses with 100% success last year. They are of varying heights from 7ft standard to 4ft standard on multiflora root stalk.I would like to ask experts now and again suckers arise from nodes below the graft union. At least on long cane there are about 8 nodes which frequently comes out. Any standard treatment to take care, since in my absence for long time from the plants if any of the suckers takes on, no one in my family will aware of the consequences. Your help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Louis Stoddard roses

As you hopefully know, to be successful with this, all potential growth buds below the graft must be removed. Any which remain will "sucker" as you are experiencing. The "standard treatment" is to excavate to the point where these buds are suckering from the trunk of the standard, then surgically remove them. Traditionally, roses have three growth buds at each leaf axil. The main one is what normally grows. There is one guard bud on either side of each main bud which grow should the main bud be damaged or killed. All of the growth buds below the graft must be cut out cleanly with a sharp knife or razor to prevent them from growing and "sucking" the nutrients from the scion. You must accomplish this to prevent these suckers from overtaking your standards. Do not attempt to use any kind of herbicide on them as the chemical will not differentiate between rootstock sucker and desired tissues, and kill the entire plant. If they sucker in your absence, someone should keep them trimmed off the plant as cleanly as they are able to reduce the leaf area of the unwanted portion until you can return home and remove the unwanted growth from the point of origin. I know of no other treatment which will accomplish your goal without damaging or killing the plant. Good luck.
