winter sowing rose seeds

| Usually I sow my rose seeds in flats about this time of year and put them under flourescent lights in my unheated laundry room. I think I will have more flats than space indoors this year and wonder if I could just leave them outside even though it will freeze . I think the people who do winter sowing say that the seedlings won't emerge until it's safe for them. I don't know. |

| They usually won't germinate until the temperatures and water levels are to their liking. Make sure they're covered with some sort of screen in case you have "visitors". Mice, squirrels and rats LOVE rose seeds. If you don't have rain, make sure they are regularly watered. Being kept too dry will inhibit germination, too. Kim |

| You're welcome, Linda. I'll trade you. It's in the mid eighties here, far too warm for germination. We need some colder, wetter weather, and fast! It's about nine months too early to be in a "fire watch", which we are. Kim |

Wow, summer in January! It has been a mild winter here, which suits me fine. In a couple of days it'll be about 68. No snow this year but that could still change in Feb. and March. We had a fire watch yesterday due to dry air.
Some of the crocus and daffodils are blooming right now. |
