I've NEVER had luck rooting roses in water. Check out Hartwoodroses website for an excellent tutorial.

Wow that sounds pretty complicated. The only way I've propagated roses is by cuttings placed in soil and put into the garden window. I hope yours will do well. That flower is absolutely gorgeous!! Is it called a 'sport' or did I miss the name?

Yes root it in soil.

Dont cut it off leave it on the main plant. In the spring wrap most peat moss around it and wrap it with plastic wrap thats in your kitchen. Tie the ends to keep it most but not wet. leave it for 1-2 years with out opening it. If it looks dry wet it from the top. When you see white roots growing inside the plastic then cut it off. Next you need to go to a rose propergator and have them make a few thousand plants. There are some on this list.
