Grafting Roses Using Dormant Canes

Of necessity, I will be pruning some healthy canes from my hybrid teas. They are dormant here in zone 5. I know that roses are normally budded, rather than grafted. However, I am curious. Can these canes be kept in cold storage and then grafted onto other roses, in much the same way I use dormant, cold-stored scions on my apple trees? Just curious and thought I might experiment.
