Rooting Medium Again

Hi, all

I followed the earlier string on propagation media and had a couple of questions: (1) to those of you who tout the virtues of coconut coir, do you use it by itself or add, say, perlite to the mix? (2) I can't find the LA4 aggregate (Sunshine Mix) that George Mander recommends. They say it is "formulated with Canadian Sphagnum peat moss, coarse grade perlite, gypsum, Dolomitic lime, and our long-lasting wetting agent." Anyone know what this "wetting agent" might be?

I don't know if the Sunshine Mix is available stateside. I use coir with a little homemade compost, just to give the newly rooted cuttings something to feed on. I use the same mix when I repot them. When the cuttings are ready to go into the ground, they do so in native soil with a top dressing of compost.
Others here use a variety of different mediums. The one that interests me most from what I have read here is pine bark fines.
