Root roses without sand?

I have thirteen rose cuttings that I am about to try to root and I heard that sand was the best rooting medium but no one sells sand near me this time of year. Are there any other suggestions of another type of medium that I could use? Preferably something that I could pick up at walmart on my way home. Thanks

You can buy "play" sand at Lowes or Home Depot in the construction/building materials section. A small bag is only about $4.00.

I use the coarser sand that Home Depot sells as a base for masonry projects -- $3 for 50 lbs. Play sand is probably fine too, but it blows around and gets in everything.

Hoe abt. Perlite or Vermiculite ? supposed to be even better than sand... acc. to what I read ... sally

If you want something you do not have to mix that you can buy at Walmart, buy a bag of cactus planting mix. It is course and fast draining and already mixed. Al
