Antique rambler cuttings- newbie questions

kaoszone

I have a gorgeous pink cabbage rose type once blooming antique rambler that came from my great-grandmother's farm. I've never seen another like it and I don't know what it's called.

I've propagated it before by covering a couple of canes with earth for a year, then the next year, cutting it free of the main plant and moving it. This works but is slow and I'd like to try rooting cuttings so my family members can have this heritage rose too. I've never tried rooting cuttings before.

It blooms in June, but I'm not clear on when I should be taking the cuttings. Should I be taking them while or after it blooms? If I want to do some hardwood cuttings in the ground next to it as well, when do I cut those? It's still dormant at the moment, as the ground is just thawing here.

Thanks in advance for the help. If I have good success, I'd be happy to trade some of the them. It's my favorite rose.

Karen
