Yellow roses from a birthday bouquet

Absolutely gorgeous bunch of the longest lasting two weeks, almost fragrant, many petals, pale yellow roses. Some of the stems started to grow in the vase and some never did although these had larger stems but I always thought there was two kinds of roses in the vase but couldn't tell from performance or looks just had a hunch. These two stems are taking off like crazy and like the rest, five bushes that I now have from bouquets will probably do quite well outside. So it goes to prove that patience sometimes you'll get a winner but still some of the stems I know now were waxed and those will never grow.

I have never been able to get any to root from bouquets! Darn it! I would love to know your secret.

I've had the same experience as Yellowhair. Love bouquet roses but they turn sterile for me. Drat!

Rice Technique for Cuttings

My teenage daughter received her first bouquet of roses 2 weeks ago. I was going to dry them for her but when I removed them from the vase 3 of the stems had fresh baby leaves. She would be thrilled to have a rose bush from these "special" roses. Any suggestions as how I could do this? My mother said her mother would make a small cut at the base of the cutting and insert a grain of rice. I have searched this site but not come across that technique. Please let me know what has worked for you. Thanks!
