I was rose rustling . . .

I obtained some cuttings of a rose from an old cemetary and got two of them to start growing. They're in a one gallon pot and have been in there for about a month now. How much should I let them grow in the container before I get them into the ground? The top of the cuttings are about 5 inches tall from the soil up, and only a few leaf clusters have sprouted from the stems. I don't want to damage any root growth by taking them out of the pot too soon. It gets hot really quick here in Texas starting in May.

Thanks!
