can I start a rose for a cutting from my Oklahoma rose or just plant a seed.

I don't know about Oklahoma Rose in particular, but I have had some of my roses develop hips and drop seeds in my garden beds. The seeds have germinated in the garden soil and grown into small rose plants. I have had this happen several times.

I also one time had a cut rose develop roots in a jar of water. It was a cut rose that I received as a gift and I wouldn't believe this if I was reading it on the internet either. I'd figure whoever the kook was who was writing it was mistaken, smokin' crack or just plain crazy.

But I saw it with my own eyes. I got the roses and put some asperin in the water because I was told that it would make them last longer. And they did last a long time, but I noticed after about two weeks that some of the stems had developed roots on the bottoms. I was amazed, but as I wasn't a gardener at the time, I didn't try to plant them. Dogone it!

i just use the refridgerator method. i pick hips in the fall, place them in a baggie and into the freezer, no soil or stratification. in the spring i divide the roses hips in half and plant them 2-3 inches in the ground. later in the summer voila new alberta wild roses. i was scared to try a method posted here of leaving them outside, in or out of pots, because this winter it never went below -20. i dont know how cold it needs to be to make the seeds viable?

You don't put the seeds into the freezer !!!
In the fridge with temp. 36 to 42 F. is the way most hybridzers stratify theis seeds.
