There is an excellent protocol for rooting roses at the hartwoodroses .com web site. I tried using a heating pad for bottom heat, and it was NOT successful for me. But, it may have been the time of year. I just use a combination of crushed granite and vermiculite...and start with small cuttings with a "heel." I had my first success last summer.

Thanks. I like the soda bottle idea, I use it frequently but I just cut it in half and push the top into the bottom a little bit to create a mini-green house instead of using a milk jug also.

They said to use sphagnum but the picture looks like they used peat moss. I was going to try coconut coir because I read that was good.
