Can You Help?, Baggie Method Mold

jannorcal

I am trying my first attempts at propagating.

I prepared the stems, dipped in rooting gel, put them in moist soil in 4" pots then put them in a gallon zip lock baggie. This was 3 weeks ago.

Of the first 10 cuttings (from 3 different plants) that I started, one is showing new growth.

Many of the other cuttings are getting moldy/fungi type growth on them. My guess is that it is too humid inside the bag.

For the first 2 weeks they were inside, now

I have them in indirect sunlight on my front porch.

Daytime temps are about 80, nighttime about 55.

Today I took them out of their baggies because of the mold issue.

Is it okay to leave the cuttings exposed to air now?

If so, should I mist them or just keep the planting mix moist?

Have subsequently started another group of cuttings from a rose that I really want to be successful. Am hoping to avoid the mold/fungus issue with this one.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Janelle
