Golden Julia resulted from about a foot long mutation on my traditional Julia's Rose in my old Newhall, CA garden. The top foot of the plant seemed to have lost a gene for pink as the new growth mutated from bronze to green; the prickles mutated from red to yellow and the flowers mutated from "parchment and copper" (brown paper shopping bag) to a cool mustard color. The last plants I am aware of being offered anywhere were the stock plant at Euro Desert when Cliff closed the nursery and Vintage's single plant they listed on one of their offerings. Unfortunately, I no longer grow it, either as it isn't something I wish to use for breeding. I love the rose, but like Julia's Rose, it isn't a great garden plant. It's a beautiful novelty and a lot of fun to grow with the other "Coffee Roses". If I had unlimited room, unlimited (and inexpensive water), more energy, I would grow it and the other "funny colors".
