You can bring the whole thing inside for the winter. Overwintering roses in attached, unheated garages is actually fairly standard for tender kinds.

My garage is detached and missing a window. I was wondering how often they need to be watered, as I could possibly use my son's garage but he would forget to water them.

Other than that, I've overwintered newly rooted cuttings in the sunroom successfully. I set buckets of water around for humidity. Would that work for a more mature rose? I overwintered a Chicago Peace, and it bloomed in January, then seemed ok by spring, think I skipped the buckets of water that winter. It was pretty but I didn't want any more HT's so gave it to my son, don't know what he did with it and afraid to ask.

I overwintered a tree rose in the house one winter..i wouldn't do it again, although the rose survived. it had huge long spindly canes that were begging for light, and in general, just didn't do well. i now overwinter in the garage as the other poster suggested. you can always put plastic on your broken window to block the wind. Thanks, Donna. I want a replacement window but plastic will be fine. Water? Maybe not since the temps will be below freezing much of the time.

Protect the pot a little more with staw or heavy old comforter?

The SW corner of my sunroom gets a lot of light and sun in the winter, but can only get so many plants there. The two I rooted got long canes, but they're climbers anyway.

I'm not arguing with you here, just weighing things. One of the downsides to it is that it throws it off its normal growing cycle especially in the extremes of climate here. Plus I harden it off in the spring.

Sometimes with other plants I just wait a little longer and just take them outside.
