Trouble with cutting

Hi,

I started some cuttings from a rosebush last fall, and nurtured them through the winter in a tented fashion. One really seemed to come through well. It is gaining height (about 9 inches) but not thickening. Now the leaves are drying out. It no longer fits in the misting system. It started in a peat cut and has been in a clay pot for about 2 months maintaining until recently. I'm a newbie so I'm not sure what to try next. It can't go outside until this fall, I don't think, as it's quite hot here (desert southwest, 100 degree days to begin this week). Any ideas?

Just a couple of thoughts.

Get it out of the clay pot--they dry terribly in a hot climate. Repot into a 1 gallon plastic pot in good moisture retentive soil & keep it watered & in a partial shade protected location. Are you keeping it indoors? Roses LOATHE that, even babies. Maybe you can place it under a shrub or in a morning-only sun location outside.

Also, Kim (roseseek) has commented that he pots up newly rooted cuttings pretty deeply--covering the canes protects them from drying out.

Congrats on getting a successful rooting. Keep it babied for the next few months. Hope this is helpful.
