Keeping rose cuttings hydrated in transit?

lkaye

I am going to "rustle" some rose cuttings tomorrow. I will be cutting in the morning but the cuttings will have to travel with me most of the day and will be left in the car while I am in stores. It is raining today (yipee - at last!) so hopefully the bushes will be better hydrated by tomorrow. Should I stick them in a bottle of water and leave them uncovered or cover the bottom of the stems with wet dirt or peat moss and try to wrap the whole cutting in wet newspaper? If I get back too late to do anything with them that night, should I recut the bottoms before "planting"?
