Pruning off rootstock

Posted by trailer_gal z4 ND (My Page) on

Could anyone tell me when and how much of the apple tree rootstock should be pruned away after the scion has taken hold. The rootstock is about 43 inches and is growing vertically. The scion is 18 inches and is growing off to the side, kind of horizontally. It starts a few inches off the ground. Thanks for any advice.
