Rose cuttings in an aerogrow

Hi!

Has anyone ever tried to clone roses in an aerogrow? In theory I'm thinking it could work because of the lights and constant warmth and water supply with nutrients, but I am wondering if anyone has ever done it and if they had success with it.

I don't know what an aerogrow is, but I have a friend who has tried rose cuttings in a bubble cloner, and it has not been successful thus far.

I looked at the Aerogrow at one point, but the cost scared me away. You can root roses (and other things) using peat, perlite, a half-gallon milk jug, and a two-liter soda bottle ... way cheap.

There's a step-by-step photo tutorial on my web site, linked below. This was the first method that really worked for me ... and other GW members have also used it quite successfully. Beware, once you start to root roses, it can get a bit addictive. :)

RE: Rose cuttings in an aerogrow

I have been trying to use my Aerogrow (it was an xmas present) on rose cuttings for about half a year now. I get roots on about half the cuttings I put in it, but I have yet to get a single plant to transfer successfully to real potting soil. There's something about the roots that sprout in water that just can't seem to make that transition. I'm still trying. Most recently I've set up a little mister with it.

Has anyone ever gotten roots that sprouted in a hydroponic system to transfer over to pots? PULLEASE, PULLEASE -- pass on some info on how you did that.

Thanks
Kathy

I do not know if this will work for your rooted rose cuttings or not but I have accidently rooted some things in water and instead of just potting them up and keeping the pots watered I have set the pots in a container with water in it. I felt that it would help with the shock of going from complete water to just potting soil. I wean them off the water the same way I go from the complete humidity of my plants I root in soda bottles by slowly introducing them to less humid conditions. So far it has worked well for me.
