Pulled out a rooting Rose cutting..what next?!

Hello there -

I decided to try my hand at rooting a rose cutting from my friend's yard. I got several cuttings and all but one of them dried up. The one cutting has been green for atleast 6 weeks now, without any new leaf growth. It wasn't having signs of dying either. I got impatient and gently pulled it out to see what was happening - to my delight and remorse, I saw a single root out of the bottom. I promptly put it back in the soil gently. I am wondering if I did irreparable damage to it with my impatience. I know only time will tell if I killed it, but does anyone have experience with this scenario? I do not know the kind of rose it is; I used a rooting hormone to dip the cutting in and put the cutting in a mix of potting soil and perlite. My friend tried the same thing as me: she got new leaf growth VERY fast but when she transplanted to regular soil, she noticed there were no roots: both are cuttings from the same rose bush.
