Rooting a rose

I still can't believe this happened. I brought home a rose one day, put it in water too late, and big surprise, it died. I put the rose - still in water - in the kitchen, preparatory to throwing it out.

I just looked at it, and there are fresh leaves sprouting from the stalk! I'm not going to throw it away now, but I have zero experience in rooting plants, so I could use a lot of help and advice.

New foliage growth is not unusual on cut stems. The stem is using stored carbohydrates to produce them.

If you read the FAQ and do The Google on 'rooting roses' you will find many good pages with lots of tips.
