air layering oops?

I went and cut off the air layered portion of a rose I am trying to propogate. I didn't see any roots showing through but figured by this time (5 weeks) there had to be SOMETHING going on in there (Frost coming soon.) I stuck them in water in a bucket and came home. When I got home I took off the plastic and plunk! The wad of peat moss, saturated from being in the bucket, just fell right off. There was alot of linear white bumpy growth along the wounded area, which I assume is the beginning stages of rooting. (If I hadn't known what it was I would have thought it rather icky looking. haha)

So since there was no going back and reattaching the cutting to the plant, I went ahead and planted them in pots, to be overwintered indoors under lights.

They are trimmed of leaves and side shoots and reduced to 'size'.

Do I need to make a tent now, because of my haste? Are they doomed?
