Spider Mites & Temps in Garage

I have several cuttings, well-rooted and showing new growth, that I plan to keep in my garage under lights over winter. Since it is unheated, the temperature is usually around 45-50 degrees F. If it is brutally cold outside, it can drop to the 30's, but never to the freezing point. Will this prevent spider mites and aphids? On the other hand, will it be a good environment (cold and on the damp side)for diseases to develop? Also, I am just starting to get them used to the air outside the plastic covers, and was wondering how long it takes to harden them off, if I remove the tops for a few hours each day? I am terrified to lose them at this point, and don't want to make any bad moves.

I really appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks so much.

Judith
