Tj, no don't tug on them. It depends on the variety, and how green the wood is, I assume you're taking actively growing wood, as even for this time of year she's still putting out new growth. There is another thread about late cutting a few threads below yours as well. It takes about 4-6 weeks for the cuttings to root. I assume you've read George Mander's thread right below yours, and studied his method. If the peat moss perlite medium temperature has been maintained as per instructions, then you'll see active growth following the establishment of proper rooting. I notice on mine, that the stem really swells up at and below the level of the soil, as the "stem cells" under the cambium layer proliferate, and a very gingerly excation will reveal nice roots, if you're inclined to actually see them. Otherwise wait, and in due time they'll grow out through the hole in the pot, or through the peat if you're using peat pots. I only tug on cuttings if I'm dealing with something expendable,and only if I'm pretty sure it's rooted anyway before I do anything physical to it like pulling, and holding up the pot by the stem. Thanks for the information Paul. It is so exciting to grow on various plants from pieces of your parent plants. I think it's the challenge that is so facinating for me. It's my favorite part of gardening.

Paul is right, you don't tug on them !

6 days is way to short a time to tug on them. Wait about 2 to 3 weeks and then you go very gentle and give a little pull. I use small 2 1/4 pots for rooting and when the roots come through the drain holes, it's time to put into larger pots.
