Rhododendron cuttings, what's normal?

Hi there,
Gardening learner here. I've taken some cuttings of my rhododendron. The cutting are the lighter green (late spring here) tips that were firm enough to snap should I have tried to bend them but not yet browning bark. I cut them with secateurs approx 4 inch long, removed all but two leaves, halved them, made both flat cuts at the bottom and some diagonal to experiment. I used rooting hormone and made sure to bed in cutting soil mix with one node bellow the soil. They are in trays in my new hot house. It has been a week, the nodes where I removed leaves have gone brown n very leaf edges where I cut them in half have browned I am assuming this is normal? Part of the plants immune system defence?? Can someone confirm this? These are my very first cuttings ever can people tell me what to expect and what to look out for in the way of fungus pests, bad news etc lol thank you :)
