Cutting storage??

Hi, I live in IL (zone 5) and Have just chopped down my rose bushes for the winter. I was wondering if I would be able to take the cuttings and wrap them in moist paper towels and store them in a fridge until spring when I would try to root them. I know you can do so with most trees and shrubs but am new to roses. Any help would be great.

Hi Mike,

I'll be interested in hearing that answer from someone else up in your zone. I live in 8b. This is the time we take cuttings and Rootone them and stick in pots. Winter is the best time to propagate as the sap has gone back down. Can you try a few pots with cuttings and keep inside?

You'll probably find something of interest here on Paul Barden's blog. It's a very interesting article. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do what you want. It's pretty much what's been done to store bud wood for generations.
