Yes, you are. The success is not 100%. I actually have lots of roses grown by cuttings but they were fresh from healthy plants. Every year, my kids gave me fresh flowers and every time I have tried to root them to no avail. If you succeed, please jot me a few lines. Thanks.

In July 2005 I was given a bouquet of 12 huge orange roses. I left them in water and got roots. Dipped in rooting hormone,tried to grow them outside. All died. I pulled out the dry,brown stumps about a week ago. Never again. I have had better success with cuttings from live plants given to me by gardening buddies. About 50% have survived after one year.

I am not very experienced at this but I am nursing along three pots of cuttings through the winter.

Put them in soil in a small pot. Put a plastic one gallon zip lock bag around the pot and inflate the bag and lock it shut for a greenhouse effect. Put this under a grow light for the balance of the winter, and as long as there is green growth appearing, you may have something.

I doubt you could grow anything indoors in the winter without this type of care, or some type of misting, over and over because roses will dry out indoors in the midwest in the winter, and die.

As it warms up outdoors they can be put on the northside of the house for a while and open the bag for a little bit at a time until it becomes acclimated to outdoor air.
