Wrapped cutting rooted at the top?

Hey!
I decided a few months ago to try the burrito method for cuttings. One in particular I for one (forgotten) reason or another cut at the top as well as the bottom. Now the top is callused better than the bottom, and even has a small root growing! Should I plant it top down?
My friend said what HE would do would be to cut it off closer to the top because it is pretty long, and turn it upside down in water.
One thing he wasn't sure about (we're both newbies here), was if I stuck the callused stem in water, would it being callused help it or keep it from rotting? One other thing I was wondering about was if I should go ahead and plant the other one that doesn't have a root yet. Will it matter if it doesn't have a root yet? I've seen pictures of callused cuttings about to be planted, and there were almost always rooted already.
Thanks so much guys!
