Roses are rose. If you give them the right conditions, for the most part, they'll all root for you. There are some varieties that are more stubborn and harder to root but those are few and I'm betting the ones from Walmart aren't those kinds. Otherwise the growers could not root up and pot enough to supply a big box store like Walmarts. I would wait a while until those small potted gift roses get some size before trying to take cuttings from them though. And if you check closely you'll see that the pots probably have 3 or 4 little rooted cuttings in them already. It is possible, with GREAT care, to separate them and pot them individually. You have to save as much of the roots on each cutting as possible to keep them alive. I've never had very good luck at it myself so I no longer try to do it and just leave them all together to grow on and become a bigger plant.

i despise Walmart, but they ar the almost exclusive providers of one of my favorites: Climbing New Year. It is a great orange rose with a nice fragrance.

Roses are roses, of course, but not all roses will root, and even of those which will, not all will grow WELL own root. Many will, but just because you CAN root them doesn't mean they will perform well for you on their own roots. Kim
