UPDATE: Incredible Heirloom Totally Tasty Tomatoes Sign Up pt2

bonechickchris

Hi Guys! Here is part 2 of the Incredible Heirlooms Totally Tasty Tomato Swap. Sign ups will remain open, as long as your seeds can be sent in by January 24th. The following info is cut and pasted from the previous thread.

Hello there! Welcome to the Incredible Edibles Heirlooms first swap, "Totally Tomatoes" January Swap! All are welcome! Oldies and Newbies!

Of course, this is a swap of tomato seeds only. Please only send tomato seeds that are heirlooms and/or OP's, non-hybids.

This will be a mass swap, where everyone will send in all their seeds to me, I will sort, and then resend.

Please send your seeds in a BUBBLE MAILER! You do not need to send an extra envelope. I will reuse the envelope that you sent me your seeds in, which will save you time and money!

In the envelope, please include:

1. Your seeds of course

2. A label with your address on it for me to put on your envelope

3. $2-3 postage or cash, If you are sending a big envelope with lots of seeds, you may want to send closer to $3, otherwise, I think $2 should cover it.

4. A list of all the seeds you are GIVING. You may also send a list of some of your wants or preference of types of tomato seeds you would like back. THERE ARE NO GARANTEES THAT YOU WILL RECIEVE ALL YOUR REQUESTS! Although, I will work hard to give you what I can. It all depends on what is sent in for me to send back out.

~Instead of swapping whole packets, I would like to swap for smaller amounts of 12-15 seeds each packet, so there will be a bigger and better selection of seeds for me to send out to you all.

Please divide them up into packets of 12-15.

12-15 seeds will count as one trade each! However, some seeds are better than no seeds, so if you have only 4 or 5 seeds of something, you can send them in too.

Also, feel free to add any bulk seed or any seed that would be considered extras to donate to the swap. Just mark which ones are extras to go into the pot.

~ PLease send seeds that have an expiration within the years of 2008, 2009. Seeds that expired this year are ok!

~ On your packet labels, please include the following info:

1. Tomato Variety Name

2. Whether they are comercial(company name)or if they were hand collected!!!!!

3. Your GW Name (This will help me not too send you back your own seeds!)

~ I will try to award seeds fairly. The more variety you send, the more variety you will get back. The more interesting your seeds are, the more interesting seeds I will try to get back to you if I can.

Multiple packs of the same variety are ok to send in to a certain extent. If you send me 20 packs of the same one tomato, you might get back some doubles too. I will do my best to not do so. Again, it depends on what is sent in.

~ Seeds need to be recieved by me by January 24th, 2009.

That should give us all plenty of time to get over the holidays and maybe get some new seed catalogs in the mail.

I will send out your seeds by February 24th, 2009. If I receive seeds earlier or on time, I may be able to get them out sooner than that.

~If you would like to send in a few extra envelopes/labels to help me in the redistributing process, feel free to do so. This is not important, I seem to be well stocked, but if you do send some in, I promise to send you a little something extra!

Woosh! I hope I mentioned everything! I have a problem of writing too much! But I hope that makes it easy for you to understand everything. This is going to be a really fun opening swap for the Incredible Heirlooms! Please come and join in the fun! Any questions, just ask!

Ooh, I almost forgot! Once you sign up, please send me an email if you can so I can send you my address!

Thanks everybody! Lets have some fun! Christy

Anyone here grown Spoon Tomatoes before? If so, is that the proper name? Any info on them would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Slightly off Topic :)

I've been trying to plan out what varieties I'm going to grow this year. I want to try about 20 varieties (2 of each.) What do you think of this line up?
    Black Cherry,
    Bloody Butcher,
    Black Seaman,
    Clear Pink Early,
    Carbon,
    Caspian Pink,
    Celebrity,
    Druzba,
    Green Zebra,
    Anna Russian,
    Mule Team,
    Prudens Purple,
    Rutgers,
    Sub Arctic Plenty,
    Tommy Toe,
    Alicante,
    Orange Banana,
    Plum Lemon,
    Pritchard,
    Thessoloniki

Yes, I know I should probably wait until AFTER this swap!

Hi Becky! This is only my second year for tomatoes, and the only one on your list that I've grown is Black Cherry, which was my favorite cherry last year.

I had narrowed my list down to 11 before this swap, of course I only have room for 8, LOL! Once I get my seeds though, I'll probably have to revise it. I do have Bloody Butcher on my tentative list too!

Maybe someone with more experience will comment on your list.

    Why not share, indeed.

My package went out today, so there must be some kind of New Year's Resolution thing going on since I usually mail things the day before they are due and then hope the postal service can deliver a miracle. Hope the things I sent can make some folks happy in their 2009 gardens.

And thank all of you players for jumping into the game.

Hi Becky, I have planted my fair share over the years. As you may know, what I LOVE you may hate. I also had a horrible year in 2008 and will trying again this year. Also our zones are very different and I see that you have lots of early varieties. Have you ever tried SunGold? Cherokee Purple? Those are my favorites and will be on my permanent list.

    Black Cherry- Very good, recommend
Bloody Butcher- On my list this year
Black Seaman-Grew before and did not like
Clear Pink Early- have not tried
Carbon- Grew it before and liked it, it is on my current List
Caspian Pink-Grew it before but I cannot remember which means not that great
Celebrity-I HATE this tomato as a ripe tomato but I LOVE it as a Fried Green Tomato
    Druzba- Never tried
Green Zebra-Grew it 2 seasons, tried to like it, beautiful to look at but blah to me
Anna Russian-EXCELLENT tomato but it is not generous
    Mule Team-on my current list
The rest I have not grown before, some are on my current list but some will not make it this year.

    Prudens Purple,
    Rutgers,
    Sub Arctic Plenty,
    Tommy Toe,
    Alicante,
    Orange Banana,
    Plum Lemon,
    Pritchard,
    Thessoloniki

Puts on his Joey Tribbiani voice...hey, how YOU doin'?

I had no idea a thread could run out...geesh.

Spoon-what I know is it is a currant so be careful about cross-pollination. Spooning was what my mom called making out...it is used to get everything out of a bowl and is the essential tool used for icecream. I have Spoon, but have not grown it. With so many cherries and dwarves, I stopped planting currants.

What to plant...there are some great threads found over at Tomato...well ask me..GW has the name blocked due to spam...that's something new to me.

Black Cherry-if you like yummy, sweeter, this is the eater

Bloody Butcher-high in some people's book,I'd take a second look

Black Seaman-while it is a black, I had better ones, fill up a sack (Spudatula)

Clear Pink Early-I just got this in trade, opinion not yet made

Carbon-another black I have on my list, heard they are about the size of a fist

Caspian Pink-not very many on vine, but the colors made this very fine.

Celebrity-never grew these, due to the threat of Paparazzi pleas

Druzba-I love these, none even got a disease

Green Zebra-these are novel, if you need green there are better to gobble

Anna Russian-very big pink so I think and as a paste, not much to waste

Mule Team-another I have not tried, so you can't claim I lied

Prudens Purple-this I am allowing because it has such a large following

Rutgers-old fashioned flavor and size, give this one at least two tries

Sub Arctic Plenty-while early and small, most say there is no flavor at all

Tommy Toe-this a litle cherry, plant in a container you can carry

Alicante-red that is worth a trial, if only for a little while

Orange Banana-this is paste and not a banana, but it has many ah fan-a

Plum Lemon-never grew, the name sounds sour, maybe fried green adding some flour

Pritchard-sounds like an old English butler so be careful where you will cut her

Thessoloniki-starts Greek and ends in a shoe, I'd recommend it to you

Christy, for some reason, there have been some really strange things going on with GW. I haven't received ONE email from when I send an email and it asked me if I want to send a copy to myself...for over 3 weeks. Have had posts post twice several times...and have seen many other posts post twice on others. For a while, I was getting the error message making me go in and change the topic or it wouldn't take. So who knows. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

This is slightly off topic...but a very good audience for my question. Has anyone ever traded with a Preston White?

I entered into a rather large trade and am not getting any status updates by e-mail. He sent me an e-mail derived from posting on GardenWeb...

    Poems??!!, what poems??

Titles?? I am the Earl of Oneofthearls, not to be confused with Edgecomb...the 7th and all that history. Northernmich is just my location.

My seeds went in the mail today. Yippee!

Regarding Green Zebra -- I love this tomato, very citrus-y. One of my favorites. Maybe mine is a little shifted genetically? It might go a hair more yellowgreen than photos I've seen (when nicely ripe). Yes, I included several packs for this swap.

    Hi Guys! PLEASE READ!!!!

Everything is going quite well so far. HAve been separating everyone's seeds. Now I wanted to ask a question.

For the people who sent in LOTS of tomato packets,,,,, are there any of you that would not mind getting back the same number of packets as you gave in? Then some can be put in the pot as extras? Certain varieties I am receiving lots of, and some are too many to hand back out, so if I had some extras to play around with, I could avoid having to hand back out all of those multiple common varities I am recieving.

Again, no pressure, I just figured some people who sent in so many or multiples of one variety might not need back as many as they sent in. I am still going to sent you bunches, so do not think if you say "yes" that you will get jipped. You can even tell me how many packs back you would like. For example, if you sent in 50 packs, but only need back 35 or 40, please let me know by either posting here or sending me an email. I hope I am making sence!

Thanks guys for all your help! Christy

I did not know that the prize pack went missing. When did you send them out Kathy? Sometimes if it is short postage, it takes a while to get back to you. I was short postage on a letter once and I did not get it back for almost a month! So maybe it is just in transit somewhere. how long ago did you send the pack? Did you send out yout tomatoes the same day? I got the mail today already and I did not get anything.
