Once 10 swappers sign up, we'll have a swap!

Welcome to the Totally Tomatoes Swap! This is my second year hosting and I hope to build on the successes and improve on the challenges. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

All are welcome! Oldies and Newbies!

RULES:
*Sign up deadline is February 10th.
*Seeds must be received by February 25th.
*Of course, this is a swap of tomato seeds only. NO first generation crosses or hybrids.
If you have a crossed or breeded variety that is stable, in your opinion, bring it on - but clearly mark please!

To prevent multiple submissions of the same varieties, I have a few new rules.
*Please email me a list of varieties that you wish to submit and allow me to select your submission from your list. This should prevent an excess of "roma", "red beefsteak" or "yellow pear" submissions. I know people who love those varieties, but they did not participate in this swap last year ;-)
IF we have swapped before (and I suspect that you are a tomato freak), I may select the less common varieties from your list.

*A minimum of 10 seeds per packet.
*A maximum of 5 packets per variety.
*A maximum of 30 packets per swapper.

*This will be a mass swap, where everyone will send their seeds to me and I will sort and then resend.

*Please send your seeds in a BUBBLE MAILER! You do not need to send an extra envelope. I will reuse the envelope that you sent your seeds in!

*In the envelope, please include:
1. Your seeds of course
2. A label with your address on it for me to put onto your return envelope
3. Enough postage, or cash, to get your package back to you. If you send extra, I'll return the excess.

*EMAIL, to me, a list of all the seeds you are GIVING. You may also send a list of some of your wants or preference of types of tomato seeds you would like returned. THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR REQUESTS! Although, I will work hard to give you what I can. The success of this swap depends on what is submitted by the swappers.

*Please send seeds that are no more then 3 years old.

*On your packet labels, please include the following info:
1. Tomato Variety Name
2. Whether they are commercial or if they were hand collected
3. Your GW Name (So you do not receive your own seeds!)

~ I will try to divvy up seeds fairly. The more variety you send, the more variety you will get back. The more interesting your seeds are, the more interesting the seeds returned, if possible.

~ Returned seeds will be mailed February 28th.

This one is higher, so I am thinking the envie got over 3/4" thick. Once the envie gets too thick, the PO jumps it into package rates. And it's easy to over-thicken a small envie.

Ridiculous, I know.

But something for all seed swappers to keep in mind for future trades. As they are losing $$ hand over fist, the PO seems to find any way to charge more for services.

Going to start physically sorting today; still hoping to return envies in the Tuesday (PM) mail - so essentially Wednesday AM mail.

I have been creating a "have" and "wish" spreadsheet and am hoping they match!

I'm surprised that it's different every time a different worker checks it.

I agree that the PO is very inconsistent with pricing.

I know WAY more about this pricing then one should :-) (seed whore here)

The bubble envies cannot fit through the sorter machines, so hopefully the employees never attempt it.

Perhaps most envies thicker then 1/4" fail to fit through, so they are hand stamped (?); and jump to the "large" envie pricing. Bubble envies are at least 1/4" when empty and for sure jump into the large envie pricing.

Once the bubble envelope gets to be more then 3/4" thick, they jump into the parcel package pricing. Envies too small (!!) or too large also fall into this category. AND, if the length x width ratio is off, they fall into this category also. I have taken an "off ratio" envie into my PO, after more postage was requested (before the hostage notes started), and been told that the envie is ok - no extra postage needed.

It is cheaper to buy/use a say 8x10 bubble envie and cut it into smaller envies, and this is when the ratio can be off.

Although I cannot speak for the PO, I've traded enough times to know the issues that can arise - experienced them all!

It is VERY inconsistent.

I noticed, especially with the Canadian Post envies, that some hand stampers miss the stamps all together. For those in the USA, I will reuse/resend, and not waste/use another stamp. For the Canadian swappers, I'll try to remove the stamps so they can be reused in Canada.

Last year, someone's envie label was removed and ended up returned to me. I'll insure that they are securely fastened before leaving me this year.
