| Now that the Christmas swaps are over, my mail is a little boring. I had such a good time with the Christmas stocking swap, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a similar small Valentine's Day swap? I didn't see anything else posted about one, so I do hope I'm not intruding on someone else's traditional swap. I haven't quite ironed out all the details yet, but I'm thinking something small, perhaps limiting it to a small flat rate priority mail box and to include a Valentine card, a packet (or more) or Valentine's themed seeds (things with heart, love, or cupid in the name, or things that are pink, red, white, or a plant you LOVE-- you get the idea), and a treat or two. It's amazing how much one can cram into those little boxes! Just a light little surprise to brighten up what is usually a grey, dreary month :)
Let me know by Jan 24 if you are interested. I think in order for things to get there by V-day, packages would need to be mailed to me, with return postage of $4.95 included, by Jan 31st or Feb 1st at the latest, which doesn't give us a lot of time. If those who sign up are all established traders, we could just do a direct swap, but I don't want newbies to feel left out nor do I want to take any risks, so we'll decide this part later. I've never hosted a swap before and I don't want it to be a disaster! Thanks for playing! I'm off to prepare more winter sowing containers! Rose |

| yeah, Denise, that's what i'm thinking too. even our newbie isn't a newbie really! i just know from past experience that some people are reluctant to deal with new people and i didn't want that to be a reason why people didn't sign up. oh, btw, that siberian blues dianthus i got from you bloomed until frost finally killed it! the obedient plant took off too! thanks :) |

| Wow, we have a great group! Before I reveal partners, a reiteration of a few details. Youll be sending your partner a small priority box (which has gone up to 5.20) to be filled with (at minimum) a valentine, a pack or more of valentines themed seeds, open to your interpretation (something you LOVE is great, something pink, something with "heart" in the name, etc), and treats. Of course, feel free to stuff themyou can fit a lot in those boxes LOL. Please email your buddy your mailing address. When you ship your package, please get a delivery confirmation number and post it here or send it directly to their email or to me. Please ship your packages by February 7th to ensure a sweet Valentines Day will be had by all! And as always, when you get your box of goodies, please post to let us know your package got there and so we can savor your treats with you :D Thank you all for signing up and making my first swap hostess attempt so successful and gratifying! Nottougly sends to Mavis07 If you dont hear from your buddy in the next few days with an address, please let me know. I am also emailing this message to all of you in case GW starts acting wonky again. Thanks for joining in! Rose |

| Rose - Don't feel bad. I had a hard time thinking of games for the obf For The Birds swap too. You'll think of something I'm sure. I have your package all boxed up and ready to go to the post office tomorrow. Hope we don't get all that ice and snow they are predicting. They call it a "wintry mix". I call it a black ice skating rink...lol! Seriously, I spun around three times on the highway last winter with similar conditions. I don't know how I didn't hit anyone or anything. I always say I'm the co-pilot and God is the pilot after that horrendous experience. Have a good night. Sue N. |

| Every time I turn on the weather, the forecast changes and not for the better. Now we could get up to 14 inches after both storms headed this way have passed. This may include ice as well. Depending on the weather, I will be going in to work in the morning. I plan to mail my package before on the way. I work at a small gift shop so the owner makes the calls as to when to open when the weather is bad. I will first have to see how easy it is to get out of our driveway since it is 250 feet long and already the wind is blowing drifts from the snow that we received last week. The first storm isn't supposed to be as bad as the second so chances are I will be going in. Will post my DC when I get back home. Stay safe everyone. Margo |

| we are just supposed to get freezing rain tonight, but i think that's worse than snow, especially for driving! snow wise, it hasn't been that bad yet-- maybe about a foot total but a lot of it melted in a weird 45 degree day last week. still thinking of a game! |

| Morning all! Our storm has started as well...just going to try to ride it out at home. Rose, don't worry about a game...you'll think of something. I'm trying to come up with one for the obf swap. Denise, I need to get one more thing for your package and it is going out in the mail. I should be mailing by Friday, because it doesn't look like I'll be getting to a store today or tomorrow. Talk to you soon. |
|
| Was able to get to the post office before the second round of bad weather hit. We received about 4 inches last night and the roads weren't too bad so I was able to make it to work. I stopped at the PO before hand. We ended up closing early but amazingly, we had customers all day until 2. Round 2 has started with sleet, high winds, and snow and it is supposed to last all night and into tomorrow morning. My DC #03102640000106914171 Hope the weather doesn't slow down delivery. I still have not heard the Jess got my email so hope she is still joining us in this swap. Stay safe and warm, Margo |

| Hi Rose - I took your package to the post office today. The DC# is 03093220000131571357. You will receive it by Thursday, but since we are only a couple of hours apart you may receive it tomorrow according to the post office clerk. I hope you like it. The storm brought lots of freezing rain and closed schools and government offices here today. We are in for a repeat of the same tonight and tomorrow. I'm anxious to see if we have another six weeks of winter coming. Of course, I don't really believe in the whold Ground Day thing, but it's a fun tradition isn't it? I'll bet we are in for another six weeks of winter like we are every year...lol. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm. I hope we don't have any power outages or other unexpected happenings with this storm. I know they were mentioning the possibilities of many potential problems when I watched the news this morning. I haven't watched this evening yet. I decided to make a nice pot of soup today since the preschool where I work was closed because of the weather. My hubby is a happy camper and is hoping I'll be home tomorrow too. Good night. |

| GAME!!! lacking any creativity of my own, i am blatantly plagiarizing beth's game idea (thanks beth!!!) from the swap she is running, with a simple tweak. flowers and love are forever intertwined in my mind, and apparently in the minds of others as well, because so many plant names are related to ideas of love. for this game, everyone should make a list of all the plant names they can think of inspired by the theme of love. i think that we should interpret this loosely, so feel free to include words associated with the whole lovey-dovey valentine's season, good and bad-- hearts, cupid, arrows, candies, lost love, etc. have fun with it and let's see how creative we can be in the word associations :) i think we should also include named cultivars to widen the playing field. Please send your list to me via email by Feb 13; don't post them here. I'm offering two prizes, one to the person who collects the most floral "valentines" and one to the person who interprets the theme most cleverly :) I'll post the winners and all of the lists on Valentine's day :) thanks for playing! |

| I also hope to send my box out today, the storm has mostly passed us but we are still getting a wet snow. It's starting to make things slippery. I went out to shovel my sidewalk and it was like shoveling rocks! |
|
| Rose, I heard from my partner and I also sent you an email. Nasty here. I am so glad I got my box sent yesterday. We are stuck in for a while due to a drifting and a thick layer of sleet the is under a layer of snow. We have a 250 foot long driveway and my husband has been out for almost two hours and hasn't gotten very far. I love to go out in the morning to our local Panera for coffee and I can't get out!!!! It might end up be an afternoon cup of coffee. Today is the second day of school being closed and I can bet tomorrow will be the same due to the blowing. We have used up our allotted three days so these will have to be made up. :( The temps are going to be frigid too. It's crazy and seeing the size of this storm, I doubt there is anyone here who hasn't had something from it. I am just going to keep thinking that spring will be here soon and deal with this. As long as I can get out and get some soil pellets, I will be happy. Stay warm, Margo |

| Rose, I think your game idea is a good one. Not too many garden related valentine game themes out there. So I don't think that you plagairized on Beth's game, and if you did, I don't think she'll mind...lol. I hope everyone is weathering the storm and staying safe and cozy. This has been a really bad one and I usually don't let the weather bother me much. I really don't like the ice part of this storm though. Take care all. Sue N. |

| Rose, I had a question about the game. When I was looking up plants I noticed there are vegetables with names like Valentine in them as well as floral plants. To make sure I understand, do you want just the names of flowers or all plants with a love related theme? Thanks for clarifying. Sue N. |

| I just checked the DC and my package was delivered to Nina today. I sure hope she enjoys the contents. Cold, cold, and more cold. I am going to plant 72 new types of seeds today. | Hi everyone! Sue, I would go wild and put anything you want on the list! i'm easy! my package came today but they delivered it to my little old lady neighbor's house, and when i got home she was already asleep! i live a 1/3 mile off the road and you have to go through a field of ice to get to the house, so the postman doesn't come up here. i will be fetching it tomorrow :) glad to see boxes going out :) and i already got one VERY impressive list for the game! i picked up the prizes yesterday and if i do say so myself i think they are perfect for this swap :D this is just so much fun LOL |
|
| Wow! 72 varities! Margo, I am telling my husband he is holdin me back! I planted 24 varieties of peppers yesterday and he said I was nuts. Well, he helped me so that makes him a nut, too. Good thing I like nuts. We all have our addictions, and this one is mine and justifed by all the produce if feeds us and happiness we get from doing it. So, Margo, there is nothing wrong with us. When are you planting your next batch? I am doing mine this weekend I think; perenials!!!! Jess P.S. Margo, I will mail tomorrow if our weather permits (they are still delaying and closing schools here) |

| Yay! I was able to pick up my box from Sue today-thank you so much! Jam packed with goodies! I got gloves, coffee, chocolate hearts, a bath fizz shaped like a huge diamond-the only one I'll ever get LOL--bubble bath and lotion, rose scented, in really cute bottles, and awesome flower shaped spoon rest that totally matches my kitchen, a tiny apple windchime that I will hang in my kitchen window, cute little notecards with flowers and strawberries on them, sweethearts, a nail brush!!!--much needed--baggies, FUZZY SOCKS--woop woop!--bells of Ireland, pink monarda (I don't have this color-yay!), sweet Williams, all my favs, and a bleeding heart which is one of my all-time favorite spring flowers. WHEW! And the card was soooo cute, a flower with a ladybug and a little worm, and I do love my bugs LOL. Thank you so much. Was a wonderful thing to come home to! Give the innate generosity of GWers it was probably naive of me to limit the box size huh LOL. Still waiting on something for my box but it is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, so crossing my fingers! Got all the shopping done for the three swaps I'm doing AND some stuff I anticipation of the easter basket swap I think will definitely happen since a few people said they'd be interested. I'm warning you now, though, if we decide to do an actual basket, we'll probably have to use the medium rate boxes and find baskets that have handles that fold or no handles at all, but it will be worth it--peter cottontail needs room for all those cool eggs and plants and bulbs and peeps! I have at last check received 2 entries and people they are IMPRESSIVE! Some very cool plants out there and really good interpretation of the theme! I can't wait to read the rest! Nottougly sends to Mavis07 Hee hee-I also came home to three sprouted daylily seeds! The on the rocks method seems to be faster than the paper towel method. Have a great weekend, everyone! |

| I am glad you liked your box Rose. I had lots of fun putting it together. I hope you don't mind that I used a little bigger sized box since I could fit your items, epecially the "diamond", in the tiny flat rate one. It's nice to hear everyone is sending and receiving their boxes. I love to read the posts. Could someone tell me about the "on the rocks" method for sprouting daylily seeds. I have some chilling in the fridge that I was going to try soon. I was going to use the paper towel method. Thanks. Sue N. |

| Received my box from Jess and her family today. It was full of seeds. Forty varieties that I promptly started checking out while eating the chocolate candy hearts she included, some which were peanut butter filled which are my favorite. She also included mints which I could smell before I could get the box open. Gave it a nice aroma and I will take these to work to munch on. The best part was a frog wind chime. I collect frogs and love wind chimes. I enjoy listening to their chime as I lay in bed at night with the windows open. (In the spring of course). Thank you Jess for the great box. You guys did a great job filling it up. Thanks the rest of your group for me. Margo Oops, forgot to mention she include lovage in honor of the Valentines them which I thought was cute. I grew this years ago and forgot about it. I am going to put this in my herb garden this year which since she also included a lot of other herbs, is going to need to be made bigger. |

| Denise, I am planting the orchids in a pot so I can move it about as needed. They are new to me so I'll look them up as soon as I get done "Catchingup" around here. No need to send anything else as the package was great BUT I just love sharing seeds so I won't say no. However I'll offer to share with you rather then get the whole pack. I'm having a ball this month. Between the daughter's visit, and the three swaps I'm spinning around in circles. It's fun but makes me even dizzier than usual. BB |

| Wow! Thanks for the huge box of goodies Faye! I got a heart shaped box of chocolates as well as dish towels, candles, stuffed animal cuties, a tiny pot with roses to grow, heart stickers and the sweetest card! | Robin, I received your wonderful box yesterday! Thanks uber muchly for all the goodies! :) Contents: - A red felt tote bag embelished with pink and purple felt heart appliques. Just right for Elly to stuff full of crochet thread, hooks and a pattern or two that she can haul around with her, out to the folks' or wherever. She loves it! - A portable spray bottle of "BOD Man - Fresh Blue Musk" body spray. I like it, I like it! Elly likes it too,...on me, that is. - A laser/LED keychain light! How on earth did you know we're owned by a cat-thing (brown tabby neutered tom - name: Klingon - the "kitten-faced cougar" - nearly 4 years old)?! Amazing! We had a laser toy like this, before, but have since lost it in moving from our former residence to our current one. Klingon loves "red dot",...and now, thanks to you, he has it back! - A double pack of BIC "Atlantis" retractable pens. Elly & I love these! Great ink, nice style, nice grip, and the clicking action is almost inaudible! - A glittery, metal, trio of heart-posies magnet that says "Sweet-Kisses-Love". Oooooo,...shiny-sparkly! It's on our fridge now. "Oh Elllllyyy,...see these? Valentine mistletooooe...!" :) - Sugar free (Splenda sweetened) Russell Stover chocolates! Yesssss!! Hooray for Valentine's Day!! :) - Seeds: Bleeding Heart (pink) / Salvia (Coral Nymph - Lady in Red Mix). Niiiiice! :) - And last (but never least), a totally fab Valentine's card, featuring a bouquet of roses, with hearts and butterflies, all in various gradients of red and pink. Super-duper thanks, again, Robin!! What a great swap this always is! Big thanks to you, Rose, as well, for being an most excellent host! |

| We are also having very warm weather. Yesterday (50's) and today (almost 60). I can see grass for the first time since Thanksgiving! It's like a glimmer of hope :) Beth, how lovely to have flowers coming up. I would love to see a crocus. My daughter and I plant them every year in the fall, since she was born. So for 7 years I buy a couple of bags and we plant them in the lawn on the hill past the pond. We have like 300 of the darn things now. They are so beautiful when they come up. We go out and walk around trying to count the colors...such a memory we make every spring :) DH asks if we'll do that EVERY year? And I tell him as long as I can walk, I'll do it. My dream is to have the whole lawn come up in crocus every spring...he just doesn't know that yet :) Have a great day everybody |

| Thanks for extending the deadline Rose. I am glad you get to sleep in on the weekends. I never sleep past 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. I am a morning person for sure. Vina, that's a lovely tradition you have with your daughter. You will both certainly have lovely memories to cherish. I think it's good you keep DH in the dark about your gardening plans to take over the lawn. I do the same with mine..lol! Our temperatures have been near 60 degrees for the past couple of days. I can see some of the daffodils starting to break through the ground, a definate sign that spring is on it's way. The birds were singing happily this morning, and that just lifts my spirits. Have a wonderful day everyone. Sue N. |

They ask me to cover the preschool classrooms now and then as a substitute when a teacher leaves early, but I could never handle all that cooking. I hope you are feeling a little better now. I have been feeling a little under the weather myself with my usual sinus troubles. They should clear up in April. Kudos to you for all that extra work you're doing. I wish for a relaxing evening for you curled up on the couch with your computer and your dog. Take care. Sue N. |

| Yay! How wonderful to see everyone that submitted a list wins! Jess, I love the creativity of your list. Vina, you found lots of others I didn't list. I'm sure we could have found over a thousand easily. But who has time for that? I know you probably think I'm crazy for submitting such a long list, and I did think I was getting carpel tunnel from all that typing, but I had a very romantic reason for the number '624'. My wedding anniversary is June 24th. So that's the story behind it. Have a wonderful day everyone! Sue N. |
