NEW: 'You Pick Seed Swap' ~Cracked Pot Gardner's~-March

galium

Cracked Pot Gardner's is a Plant, Bulb, Seed, Cuttings, etc. and Gardening Supplies Swap. The Hostesses for this group are Michelle (micyrey) and Mariann (galium).

We are taking sign-ups for our March "You Pick Seed Swap". When you sign-up list 10 different types of Flowering Annuals and Veggie seeds you have to swap. Everyone who signs up will choose who's seeds they would like. It's first come first serve so check back often. Please include a small/inexpensive gift with your seeds. It could be seed envelopes, plant labels, gardening gloves, a gardening magazine (that you've already read), note cards with a nature scene or anything related to nature and gardening.

Sign-ups will be taken until February 20, 2009. We will post all the players and their seeds on February 21, 2009. You will have until February 28, 2009 to choose who you want to receive from. We'll start a new thread on March 1, 2009.

Please read the rules if they are not followed you will not be able to swap with us again. We know that sounds a bit harsh but we've have several member's who didn't follow through, with their end of the swap, last year.

RULES

~All seeds must be sent in a bubble wrap envelope

~Email your address to the person sending to you

~If you are new, to this group, you need to send your seeds first. These seeds must be mailed by the 15th of March.

~All other seeds need to be sent by March 24, 2009

~Post when you mail your seeds

~Post when you receive and let us know what small gift you received

~If anyone has any questions or problems arise with sending on time please contact Michelle (micyrey) or myself Mariann (galium)

Alright I am in. I haven't played this group before either poison but this one sounds like a lot of fun. Here is what I have to offer...

    1. Rose Campion
    2. Eupatorium Maculatum
    3. Hardy Mix - Cosmos, daisy, gallardia, goldenrod, tickseed coreopsis, liatris, calendula, marigold, rudbeckia, ironweed, joe pye weed, yarrow
    4. Burpees Best Marigold

Poison - I would like to claim your list. Yeah! Is the cotton a plant, bush, or tree? Do you harvest it and use it? I have been wanting to try a cotton plant, and I like the rest of your plants also. (I figured if I waited too long it would be even harder to deciede from all the wonderful lists.)

Poison and Tammy-Great to have you with us.
Tammy we aren't choosing a list yet. We need to wait until the end of the sign up date. Then I'll post everyone's list and then you can choose. So you'll have to wait until Feb. 21st. I know it's hard. LOL

Uh oh! I almost picked one myself before I read your post Mariann. The "everyone who signs up must pick whose seeds they want" followed by "first come first served, check back often" sounds like you need to choose as soon as you see something you like.
Thank you for clarifying! That puts a new and interesting twist on it....even more fun!
    Alana

    I am soo sorry.

I was thinking it was "first come first served" in as soon as you see wht you want you better grab it. I didn't mean to pick out of line.

I had thought the others just didn't pick because they were waiting for a list that was "just right"

Thanks for correcting me. I will definately wait and keep my fingers crossed.

Tammy and Alana-Sorry I confused you. I went back and read what I wrote and it does sound a little cryptic.LOL

Karen, Jeanne and Linda-I'm so happy all of you signed up! I think this will be fun.

Just to clarify for everyone. Sign-ups will be taken until Feb.21st. Then I'll post everyone's seed list. After that you'll have until Feb. 28th to choose who's seeds you want. The reason I said to check back often is so that you'll have an opportunity to see what seed lists are posted.

    Shelly-Nice to have you here.

The seeds posted are really great. I can't make up my mind.
Well we have a few more days for sign ups.

Michelle-I'm glad you're doing better. I get the winter blues too. It's like a big weight on my shoulders. I just keep thinking Spring.

I have seeds to start this weekend. They need to be started 10-12 weeks before I can plant them outside. Anyone else starting seeds soon???

Mariann, I have a BUNCH of stuff that needs cold to germinate. If they dont get out there soon it will be too late for me and I feel like I just can't catch-up of getting them all planted, someone said 'Fran, don't worry about trying to plant them all this winter/spring you can save some for the NEXT WSing period' BUT I WANT to do them ALL now! LOL
I want to see what the all will look like, to watch them grow, to watch them mature so they can bloom! I am impatient! LOL.
    I know I have to chill...lol

Oh, I DO have my list picked at the moment. I just hope I can get the one I spy...hehe

I am off to lowes this morning to pick up more soil, most of my seedlings need to be potted UP now..... also looking for good feed for the perennials and tropicals which have their second leaf pair.

Sue-That's fine about posting your seeds tomorrow. After you do I'll put up the list of everyone's seeds then we can start choosing.

Tammy-You're a little warmer down there in MD. Two years ago I got spring fever so badly that I started my peppers and tomatoes to early. They were so tall that I couldn't adjust my grow lights any more. The leaves were getting burnt and I was relieved to finally get them in the ground.

Fran-You could always put the seeds in the refrigerator. My DH tolerates me doing things like that. I don't think he likes it much though. I did give him a houseplant to take care of. It's a 26 year old Spath. He knows when to water it and calls it Ralph!LOL He's so funny.

Frances-Maybe you could come over and start my seeds...LOL I'm way behind. Didn't even do any WS.

Riley-Welcome to the Group! Very nice list. Great herbs.
    Have a great day
    Mariann

Fran, you are so much like me when you said "BUT I WANT to do them ALL now!" I have pulled out seeds from my boxes and bagged them thinking these are the ones I will winter sow, but there are way to many in there for me to manage all of them this year. I sow very little after I winter sow - so the seeds either need to make it into winter sowing or they wait a year (--- well, some obviously get swapped, too --- LOL.) The good news is that I don't have many problems with older seeds. Of course, I tend to dump the whole pack into my milk jugs so there are usually lots of seedlings in there.
Well, back to the seeds for this swap, I haven't taken time to decide which ones I would prefer so I'd better "go in reserve" and read the lists so I will be ready for tomorrow!
    Have a good day!
    Jeanne

  • Frances Coffill

    lol

    Jeanne and Fran
I couldn't agree more, get it done and move on to the next thing.... this IS our cold time, if we are lucky we will get a month of really spectacular 'spring like' weather after the cold and then it will be hot and (probably) dry. Seeds really don't have much hope once hot and dry gets here. Best to get all but the hot season plants strong and well established before the water restrictions kick in!

Mariann, if your tomatoes get too tall, cut them back, it makes them much stronger. I do this because my space indoors is very limited. I keep potting up and keeping the top growth trimmed back, so when I plant them out they will have big roots and small tops, they catch up in no time when they are in the garden!

So many plants so little time!
