| Cantaloupe, Honey Dew, Watermelon and so many more melons that make our summer gardens so sweet and are so delicious at picnics, BBQs, and just anytime snacking!
Cucumbers added to fresh summer salads, made into tasty pickles, or just eaten plain. This is a swap to celebrate and trade the wonderful melons and cucumbers. The Rules: Melon and Cucumber seeds only Please properly pack and clearly label all seeds No person may send more than 50 total packs No more than 3 copies of a certain seed Packets must contain at least 10 seeds There is no minimum number of packs, so even if you only have 5 packs you can send, you are welcomed :-) No side trades Bonuses are fine, but please mark them as such (Bonuses may be any veggie variety and DO NOT have to be melons or cukes). Bonuses DO NOT count against your 50 pack total, so you may send 50 packs of melon/cuke plus bonus packs. You will receive at least the number of packs of melon/cukes that you send in, possibly more and possibly other veggies as bonus seeds Include an address label and return postage (at least as much as it took for you to send the mailer, possibly more for extra seeds) Please send all seeds in a bubble mailer Include a list of all seeds you are sending, as well as your name, address, and GW name If you have certain seeds you would like back, please include a wish list and I will do my best depending upon what is sent in All mailers are due to my house by March 6 and will leave no later than March 16 Sign up will remain open as long as you have time to get the seeds to me by March 6. Post on this thread and I will e-mail info and my addy to you Those who have already expressed interest:
Please confirm on this thread that you will participate. Also, a few locals with a good selection will be participating in this one (Lisa, Lori, Wendy) Let's have a wonderful swap! Melissa |

| How is everyone out there today? Come on lurkers......would love to have you join...you don't have to have alot of trades :-).....The first swap I joined I lurked around for about a week before I made up my mind to do it, so I certainly understand taking some time to look and assess your own seed situation :-) Oh, I got some great seeds in today, melons and cukes among them :-) |

| I would love to join! A special request. Since melon & cucumber seeds are a bit tricky in seed saving, it would be much appreciated if we ask that mystery melons or cucumbers (seed saved from farmer's market or grocery store fruit) not be included or at least marked as such. Also if the seed is saved seed, it would be nice to know if the plant was grown a distance from another plant. Of course commercial seed shared is terrific. I love trading & experimenting but don't have space for a mystery melon or cucumber. Thanks for the consideration on this :-) |
|
| comary, glad to have you join! You brought up an excellent point. So, everyone, if seed was saved from your garden, please mark it as such and indicate if it was isolated (grown alone or an acceptable distance from other plants of its type..incuding neighbor's gardens if they are close), hand pollinated, or naturally polinated (with other plants of its type grown near it, if no other plants of that type were in your garden, mark it as isolated, unless you have really close neighbors with a garden) An example: If you live in the country and have no close neighbors and only grew one type of melon last year and saved seeds from it, on the bag with the name of the variety also write garden/isolated. If you grew multiple melons (or cukes) and handpollinated them before the bees got them, then on the bag with the variety name write garden/hand-pollinated. If you saved seeds and are unsure if they were hand-pollinated in time, or if you let pollination occur naturally without isolation or handpollination then just write garden/natural pollination. Then, whoever gets those seeds will know that they are taking a chance of the seeds not coming true to type when they are planted. Some experiments can turn out really well, but a person does need to know that they are taking a chance. Does this make sense to everyone? Hope that wasn't too long of a rambling explination :-) If you have questions, please feel free to ask :-) Melissa Sign up list: Locals: Lisa, Lori, Wendy |

I really am interested in trying some melons and cukes. Please let me know and I would understand if it is not possible. Tammy/Greenthumbgrow |

| Thanks Melissa. I really appreciate it. I have never grown them before because of all the room they require. But Fran gave me a good tip to try growing them on strong trellises for the cukes and I guess you could try with smaller melons also. I am going to try it with one melon (as a test) and make a melon bed this year for the others. I am sooo excited I will get the ones I do have ready to send in. Tammy |

| I'm planning to get mine together over the weekend. I'll let you know when it's in the mail. Tammy, I grew canteloupes up a trellis last year and they did fine. The cucumber vines, I just let spill over into the empty lot next door. If the developer doesn't start building a house over there in the next couple of months, I may just have to use that lot to expand my vegetable garden. Do you think they'll notice, LOL? Bonnie |
|
| Bonnie, I sure would grow some stuff there... Karen |

| Oh I did a boo boo. I got to the po and had forgotten to put the return label in the card. I noticed when I was adding the stamps. (I sent extra stamps just in case- if there not used you can just send them back - I just wanted to make sure I send enough. rather send to many than too little. :-) Anyway. I added the return address on a piece of paper from the po but it is not sticky I hope you don't mind taping it on. Sorry about that. Thanks, |

|
| I have it all sorted :-) That was a lot more difficult than anticipated, especially when it got to the last few mailers! Boy, there were tons of sugar baby and hales best! I'm pretty sure that I didn't give anyone back anything that they sent in, but I am going to go back and check that one final time before I send, which will (hopefully) be tomorrow, but I will post to let you know for sure after it is done. Andrea, I hate that the PO apparently lost your mailer :-( I sent you an e-mail. |

| Everyone's mailer went back in the mail today! Hope they get to you soon :-) I really hope that everyone is pleased with their selection. I tried really hard to make sure that those who sent a wish list got several things off of their list. I hope those who didn't have a list are pleased with what I selected for them as well. Everyone got a few bonus packs, some of which were other veggies. Please post here when you get your mailer so that I will know everyone has received it. Melissa |

| Chris, I could be wrong, but I think that Early Silver Line is a melon not a cuke. The label on the packet I received didn't say which one it was, but when I did a search, what turned up was a melon. BTW, nice list you've got there! Bonnie |
Here is a link that might be useful: Early Silver Line Melon
