RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

The kids are on spring break this week, so I stayed up way too late, looking through recipes for my partner. It was sooo hard to decide, but I think I've narrowed it down, even though I may still add one or two. Some are new to me, but a couple are tried and true favorites.

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

mmmm that pic of veggies looks soooo yummy!! :)

I emailed my partner, Tracy, back this morning. I'm really looking forward to this swap, thanks so much!!

Since this is my first swap w/ this group is it ok to send other items in the swap as well as the seeds? Like gardening gadgets, decor, or envys, etc etc..?

~Wendy / sassyb

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

We're all enablers in this group! Absolutely, Wendy, go for it! You may want to look at a past swap or two, to see the types of things people have traded and how much. It's also common courtesy to give your partner a heads up if you have trouble sticking to limits.
:)

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Yes Wendy ! Actually, this group usually always throws in special extras in our boxes besides seeds anyway! We are always looking for a way to make the swaps a little more fun!
Christy

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

This will be so much fun I can't wait!

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Bump! I hope everyone is having fun getting in touch with their swap partner, finding seeds and looking up some fun recipes!

 o

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Just a heads up if you are (planning on) ordering seeds. I've seen several posts on several different gardening sites regards people not getting their seeds in a timely fashion when ordering seeds. Right now Tomato Growers, Bakers Creek and www.heirloomseeds.com are all taking 30-40 days to fill orders! Seeds sales are up 30% from last year. Lots of people are getting into gardening because of the economy. So this means the seed companies are busier than ever. So I'd like to suggest if you haven't ordered seeds already, you may be better off going to the big box stores or your local garden centers. Sorry to put a bummer on anyone's day. I'm just trying to give a heads up to prevent frustration.

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

I saw on Heirloomseeds.com yesterday they aren't taking anymore seed orders till after Spring. :(

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Just hopped on to Pinetree Garden Seeds website. They too are backlogged. They have greater than a 3-4 week wait.

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Gourmetseeds.com ship VERY fast, no matter how busy, They ship your order Priority! And fill your order within 24 hours of shipping it! I ordered on a Monday and got my seeds on Friday!
I have been caught up in the back ordering with other companies too, then I came across these people. Plus, they have Overpacked seeds, and you get tons! This has become my new favorite place! They have some good sales too.

Just a suggestion for those who want to make an order and get it fast! check it out Becky, I think you will find their stuff right up your alley!
Christy

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

hmmm.. I placed an order w/ Baker Creek yesterday and they said it would be processed and mailed within 7 days... ??? lol

Well hopefully what they said is true cuz the majority of my seed gifts for my partner will be coming in from that order!

*hoping....
~Wendy

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Christy, thanks, I'll check their website!

Wendy, I'm going to be hoping right along with you! I know a couple weeks ago someone posted on the Idigmygarden forums, sponsored by Bakers Creek, about it taking over a month to receive their order from Bakers Creek. There's been a few other people that have had quirks with recent orders from Bakers Creek. Don't get me wrong, I love Bakers Creek!

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Correction, it is Gourmetseed.com , not seeds

Here is a link that might be useful: Gourmet Seed

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

I've been having fun putting together my swap partner's box of goodies today. I'm still waiting for a few things. Please post here when you have received your partners box and tell us about some of the goodies you received.

Happy Gardening!

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Ooh that's a fine seed site Christy! Thanks for sharing. :) I thought I was gonna be stuck with the big box stores... lol Not that there is anything wrong with them, just not as good of a selection...

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Good news, guys! I placed my order with Baker Creek on 3/22, and just got back from out of town and found my order has already arrived.

Now I just need to get everything packed up and ready to go.

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

diene

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Diene,
It is against Gardenweb policy to advertise businesses on the forums and is NOT appreciated here. This is for people interested in growing edibles!

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

???

Don't understand, is that post from diene a warning about someone????

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Diene, I also got that email in my inbox today. I think it is terrible that someone would use the swaps to get emails so they can spam people. I thought that (dmboles) was who it was also but had to go through the files I keep here to be sure. Best thing to do is block them in your email or mark as Spam so you don't receive anymore. :)

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Sorry Diene,

I misunderstood it when I first read it and thought you were advertising. Thanks for the heads up on the spam email. If I don't recognize an email address, I automatically put it in my junk file & delete it.

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

I have rec'd 3 emails that stated seed swap or seed trade or something similar. One even had the GW in the name. They were NOT trades but spam. One was porn. YUCK !! I just deleted and added to spam, but I was nervous b/c I am afraid if I add to spam, it will start to block real emailes from GW>

Nichol

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

I'm done, and with a week to spare!!! Just finished packing everything up. I tried hard to keep it organized, since both swaps are going in the same box. I'll post the DC# after I run by the post office.

Bonnie

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Becky, your box went out this morning. The DC# 0304 1560 0000 7337 7990.

I think I'm just as excited about getting some new recipes as I am the seeds! Just curious, how do you guys store/organize your recipes?

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Hi everyone!

Well I'm happy to say Bakercreek did not let me down, my seed order has already arrived in perfect order. YAY!! Now I'll be working on the rest of the goodies this week/wkend and will have the pkg out to my partner early next week!

It was a WONDERFUL day here today.. just the perfect temps (high 60's) nice and sunny, I did LOTS of seed planting today! :)

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Bonnie outdid herself! I came home from work today to find a big, fat box sitting on my front porch. I was not expecting it so fast! I haven't even had time to check the tracking # yet!

Colorful Summer Squash Gratin
Butternut Squash & Swiss Chard Lasagna with Bechamel Sauce
Roasted Butternut Squash
Chicken Tortilla Soup
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins (I'm going to make these this weekend)
Stacked Salad

I ate dinner before posting, but this is making hungry all over again!

She also included some fun varieties of tea and a cute purple notepad.

For seeds Bonnie sent:
Arkansas Traveler Tomato (on my want list!)
Kimberly Tomatoes (on my want list!)
Noire de Crimee Tomatoes (on my want list!)
Buran Peppers (on my want list!)
Boston Marrow Winter Squash (I love winter squashes!)
Chiriman Winter Squash (on my want list!)
Marina di Chioggia Winter Squash (on my want list!)
Golden Scalloped Squash (I love all squashes!)
Green Patty Pan Squash (I love all squashes!)
Lemon Squash (on my want list!)
Oriole Orange Swiss Chard (on my want list!)
Common Sage (on my want list!)
Common Thyme (my plant didn't come back last summer. How did she know?!)
Sweet Basil (I love basil. I consider it part of the Holy Trinity of spices)
Cilantro (I love cilantro too!)

AWESOME!!!

Thanks so much for a fantastic package!

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

You're so very welcome, Becky! I'm surprised at how fast it got there, and I'm glad you liked what I picked out for you.

Those Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins are a favorite a my house, and I passed in on to my sister, and her kids love it too!

Bonnie

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Crazy weekend. I did not get to make the muffins, but need to soon. I have the pumpkin already cooked & ready to use in the frig. Bonnie, you should get your package very soon. I know its in Colorado!

Hope everyone is getting their packages out to their partners.

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Boo hoo....
I have been waiting on seeds guess I better send what I have and hope it is enough. I ordered from Reimerseeds...then, after I placed the order I looked at the feedback on google ..big mistake!@! # 89 bad feed backs..this may have been a bad idea.
I have some seeds and am sending tomorrow morning sorry Mary was hoping they would come.
I have been busy and lurking off and on,so I have seen others having the same problem with orders coming in not making my life any easier.
Polly

 o
RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Polly, you might want to email Mary before you send. She might be willing to wait if they are things on her wishlist. Just a thought.

Well, I received my box from Becky (Booberry85) today. Most of the goodies I listed on the Splendid Salads swap thread, but there was one thing I forgot to mention, a cute little stuffed tomato. We have the book that the character came from, but I have never seen them for sale, how perfect. Both the 5 year old, and the 2 year old want it, so for now it's sitting in the window with my pots of herbs.

Recipes:
Chunky Basil Pasta Sauce (canning recipe)
Zucchini Casserole
Jambalaya (2 different recipes)
Stuffed Patty Pan Squash
Shrimp Creole
Dirty Rice
Crawfish Etouffee

Seeds:
Tomato, Purple Russian
Tomato, Black from Tula
Tomato, Crimson Cushion Beefsteak
Tomato, Delicious
(very excited about all of the tomatoes!!!)
Bean, Topnotch Golden Wax
Cantaloupe, Minnesota Midget (perfect for my small garden!)
Squash, Costata Romanesco
Zucchini, bush
Squash, Green Patty Pan (I sent you the exact same one, LOL!)
Pepper, Marconi Red (this one was on my wishlist!)
Cauliflower, Purple of Sicily (I really wanted this one, thanks!)
Basil, Thai (I have several kinds of basil, but this is one I didn't have)

Awesome seed variety! Thank you very much!!!

RE: UPDATE: Incredible Edible Homegrown Recipes

Hi Mouse. Another easy one to sign up for would be the purple seed swap. It is only 10 packets so it is pretty easy. Of course I am an addict now, though, so I am just enabling, I mean er, helping you out.

I always read at least the first couple posts and sometimes the entire thread to see if I am interested n the swap. Even if you don't join, I have learned a lot from reading abot everyone. Sometimes you learn about the others you see in alot of other swaps, sometimes you learn about gardenng andsometimes you learn about life in general. I love it all.

Hope to see you in more swaps. Hopefully you got your seeds today.

Thought I posted here yesterday, but can't find it! Mary & Kamil, great job on your swaps! Kamil, Halushki isn't a common recipe. Are you Eastern European? Polish maybe? Me too! I'm all Eastern European.

Wendy , thanks for the correction. Kamil, you're definitely in the minority being a young adult male, but we love having you as a part of our group!

Melissa, it looks like you're set to start up a little seeds shop & restaurant!

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend. I was nursing a cold along w/ my son, and on Saturday evening I realized I was also dealing w/ kidney stones.. so that was a LONGGGGGGG night... Sunday we were to have a bday dinner at my brother's house to celebrate Easter and his and my bday from this past week. I managed to last about an hour and then I had to head home I was in sooo much pain! Ended up going to the ER and they just basically confirmed that I had kidney stones and gave me pain meds. However the pain meds make me nauseous.. I'll just be glad when this is over!

I might be around tomorrow but after that I will be off for about a week or two. Have to pay the ER bill instead of the cable bill this week so we won't get the internet back up til around the 1st. Just wanted to let you know so you didn't think I'd just disappeared! Tracy I do hope you receive your box soon and I hope you enjoy all the goodies! TY again for a wonderful package!

Have a great week everyone!
