| Happy Spring to "All My Bloomin Friends"! It's time for a May Flowers Party! We will be exchanging anything flowering.
If you are in the Bloomin Friends group, and would like to participate, here's how this will work: Sign up here and post a wish list of different flowering things you'd like to receive. This can be a general, vague list or very specific but, please include some generalities of the "types" of things you like as well as things you do not want. This may be a little repetitive as we all filled out questionaires but things do change and having this in one place will help because after all have signed up that want to, we will pick partners. I will start a new thread of partner picks...you will choose who you will be sending to based on who you think you can make the happiest. There are a few that wanted to exchange succulents so please post if you are wanting succulents so that another succulent lover can choose you. Make sense? Also, please include in your post whether you are a mother, grandmother, and even a special aunt or big sister so we can honor you on Mother's Day and perhaps your partner can send a trinket as a mother's day gift. Please plan on sending a nice size box full of divisions, rooted starts, or nice-sized seedlings. Ideally, we could all fill a flat-rate priority box and send LOTS!!! Please sign up by April 26th so that we have time to choose partners before May gets here. Sound okay? Did I forget something? |

| Hello, I'd love to be a part of this swap! Let me first state, that while I am listing a large amount of specifics. This is just a 'wishlist' for a themed garden I plan on making in the future ... A Gothic Garden... I also will list other 'wants' as well! *Pennisetum glaucum Purple Majesty Ornamental Millet A slightly more specific list of wants. Generic list of wants... ANYTHING for zone 9. Blessed Be, |
| Hi, I want to be in on the exchange too: ) There is nothing in particular that I'm dieing to have. It is pretty general for outdoor plants only. I don't want anything that is diffcult to control in smaller borders. Re-seeders that are easy to remove are ok, its things with evil roots that I don't want. I want things that can take dry full sun conditions, or things that can handle the opposite spectrum of part shade damp all the time. I could use more plants that bloom in July or later. I am not a mother. |

| I would like to choose Carrie Ann. Thank you, Amy |
| Okay, here's our players SO FAR (come one guys...sign up!). An asterick by the name means they've been chosen already: |
| I'm looking at most of the lists, and I really don't have any of those types... So, I'm going to hold off choosing until everyone has posted. That way, if someone is interested in cacti and succulents, I could choose them. Or, if anyone has a more general list, I can choose them... or, I could be 'wierd' and do a 'reverse' list, list what I have available and let someone say 'hey, i want what carrie ann has!' lol Blessed Be, |
- Posted by debbya z4IL (da1763@aol.com) on Sun, Apr 23, 06 at 19:54
| Carrie Ann, I'm interested in Cactus and succulents! I just didn't list them. I was only thinking of outdoor stuff! |
| well Deb, if your interested in 'indoor plants' [geesh! mine are all outside! lol, since i am zone9] Any type of 'height' requirements? Any other 'likes' [for outdoors] that you have besides your 'most wanted' list? Just curious! Blessed Be, |
- Posted by debbya z4IL (da1763@aol.com) on Mon, Apr 24, 06 at 0:02
| Carrie Ann, LOL! Our weather just turned warm two weeks ago (finally) 60's during the day 40's at night. All cactus and succulents have to be houseplants in my area! I didn't pay attention that your in Florida! ;) I'm not picky at all, really... I would be happy with anything. The want list was basically just a dream list. And the shortest dream list of the entire group, LOL! Hehe... Anything that you think is neat (growing in your area) snip off a piece (make it short) because it will turn into a houseplant, it wouldn't even have to be rooted, I'm usually pretty good at propagation!
| I still think i'm going to hold off until everyone has had a chance to 'join' this months RR. Blessed Be, |

| I'll take mellen, please (unless she's tired of me)...not cantaloupe, not honey-dew, not water...just the plain old fashioned mary ellen mellen :) that said..... hello everyone. Theresa, i would like in on this month’s swap as well. i am very happy with anything, as long as it is not considered invasive in my area. i just love adding a piece of everyone to my gardens. I wouldn’t mind some houseplants either. i have the old standards - spider and sensavaria, a good assortnment of cactus/succulents and phiolodendren, so i'm open to pretty much anything. A few things I can think of that I would like are lily of the valley - white or the new pink, Lambs ear, carnations, or anything that would fair well in a shade garden. I have a 50x10' piece of ground that needs to be filled with shade loving plants. an extremely low to the ground ground cover that would fair well in both sun and shade would be idea. very low to the ground though. The other things would be plants with the following names – regardless of type: sam, carmen, olivia, christine, caitlyn, mark, and while i'm at it - maryanne -- or any derivative of those names. i would love cuttings of an orange, purple or yellow azalea. herbs are always good to have too. i hope that gives the person that choses me something to go on. I would like to mention I am in zone 5/6, so it would be best to have things hardy to those zones. thanks and looking forward to this one. maryanne/earthly

| Maryann, thank you for making me smile! I really needed it after a bit of a tough day. Better a mellen than a squash? (now where did that come from? I'm very tired.) I would like to choose Marsha/grannymarsh. After looking at her plant wants list, I believe I have a few of the things she if looking for. I hope that we can send later in the month of May as my plants will be taller by then. My hostas are just starting to come through the ground. Am headed to bed. Mary Ellen/Mellen |

| Glad you joined Anita! Yes, Patty, I am feeling a little unloved too. My list is also just a dream list. I did also mention that I would love things to just fill in the empty spaces here and there (so just about anything goes!) I would say mailing date would be by May 15th if possible. Theresa |
| I'll join in this month and I'll take pattygrow5 if she's still available. As for *my* wishlist, I would need plants that don't need a lot of babying in zone 9. I like: Named daylilies The bleeding heart vine that's called clerodendrum thomasaiie (spelling is off but I think you know which one I mean) Also I have a variegated pandorea on my patio I just love I'd like another maybe a non-variegated one :) Jasmines Geraniums (especially ivy geraniums) and here's some more from my "wishlist": Perennial fragrant or otherwise vines and flowers zone 9, and *Blackie Sweet Potato Vine Sue |

And sure enough, they are right so far. We really need the rain, but not this much! The red magic daylily is such a pretty plant. The leaves grow huge and very spider like. Curly Spider plant bonnie, in time will grow extremely curly leaves that sort of cascade down the pot. I hope they do really well for you!

I could have got past the old dog-guess she passed away!! Too far away to feed it and make new friends!! So--guess I will just have to start over if I can get cuttings!! But 'THANKS' for the plan!! Have a great day Jeanette |

| Is it too late to join in the fun? I have lots of lovely perennials, hostas, flowering plants, even a hardy cactus LOL - grasses, and lots more. I would love to participate if it is possible! Things I would like to receive if i am accepted - I adore garden decorations (especially homemade) - carnations are my very favorite, virtually any flowering perennials, hostas, interesting grasses, pond plants, whatever!!! Please let me know, thanks! If I can't participate this time, how do I sign up with your group? |

| sheila, e-mail either veeja(veeja3@wmconnect.com) or skohler (browneyessusan@mei.net) to join. i don't think this is closed, but i'm not sure. we started last month with a seed swap and this month is flowers. this is a year long swap, but not required participation in every month. if it's still open, i'm sure sue or carol will let you know and then send the questionnaire. earthly/maryanne |

| Carrie Ann, Thursday is fine with me.... As for the outside stuff, cuttings are fine (or rooted is even better, LOL) snip them off and send them dry. Cuttings (for succulents/cactus) need to form a callus before planting, that usually takes a couple of days. Some just stick them in the ground after cutting, but those pieces are more prone to rot, than if you let the piece callous. I'm really looking forward to your box, Carrie Ann!

| Remy, I'm so excited! And the weather here has been nice, even cool for May so should be perfect timing. Susan, Your package will go out tomorrow. Should be there by Friday I would think. Sheila, Susie should be contacting you. We are working on trying to get you in for this month. Hopefully we can find you a partner. If not, June will be a good one...Daylilies I think! She will be sending you the questionaire. Theresa |
| Sheila, actually Carol should be sending you the questionaire. Susie is going out of town. Theresa |

| Hi everyone ~ Just wanted to pop my head in and see ya'll:-) Suzie, best to keep that shovel with you at all times. Even old men w/ wifes have wondering hands. They have to, the ol' wondering eyes don't see that well anymore, LoL. Have a wonderful time! I can't believe it's May already! Everything is way ahead of schedule. The lilacs have been in full bloom for a week now, and my tulips are almost done for the year. I think I may have my daffs planted too deep (is that possible). One one small batch of them bloomed this year, and 2 weeks later than everyone elses. Hmmm? We have had ALOT of rain here. We needed it, but not THIS MUCH, LoL. It's great to see all of you together, sharing your gardens. Keep playing in the dirt! |
| Deb, the packages are in the mail today!!! Confirmaiton #'s hope you enjoy! !!! Blessed Be, |

| Carrie Ann, I just got an email from the nursery that I am waiting to send a plant for you that they are delayed and will ship next week instead of this week. I already have a few things but wanted to wait on this. If it is okay with you I will wait another week but if I dont get it I will send package by the 15th. Please let me know if that is okay with you. Thanks, Amy |
| Amy, I am truly fine with that... go ahead and wait for that one plant you are waiting on... In all honesty, I've got plenty of things to do to occupy my time.... and want to make some new room so the ones you send, so i can put into pots instantly... I'm currently working on 'reorganizing' my 'baby area'.. for all the new plants, and seedings... I want to make some 'shelves' so i can hold more... lol... plus, i have a few 'trinkets' i need to hang in the yard to add a bit of charm.... Blessed Be, |

| Carrie Ann sent two wonderful boxes that were both PACKED with goodies! In the first box... candle making supplies! Wax, wicks, scents, thermometer, votive molds and of course instructions! I'm going to be sooo busy on Monday (when the kids are at school). Hopefully, candlemaking is easy! 2-cross stitch kits (sunflower themed my favorite!) Antibacterial lotion from Avon Caladiums! 3 bags- mixed, Carolyn Whorton, Kathleen. I don't have any Caladiums at all, so I'm really thrilled with the variety! Rain Lily seeds-are perfect for my moon/fairy garden! Miracle grow plant spikes Succulents, 7 different varieties, plus a couple of cactus, all very healthy! I have everything potted up already! I hope I didn't forget to list anything, I really enjoyed your boxes! I love crafts (any kind) so as you can tell, am really thrilled with everything you sent! Plus, the plants of course! Thank you so much, Carrie Ann! This month was such fun!
| did you get my letter as well? it wouldn't fit in the 'plant' box and the candle box was already taped up [that box i had finished before the weekend prior, lol] I need to get the names for what you have... I'm bad, several that i gave you, i don't even have potted yet... thats one thing i love about succulents and cacti... they are very resilant... I hope you noticed that with the silver squill, you can definately seperate it... that was just my smallest 'clump' i pulled out of my large pot... the carrion plant [the one that is a succulent, mostly green with a purple tinge color [thats what new growth looks like] those should do well inside, possibly even a hanging basket... that is the one, that will put out a huge maroon flower that is stinky.. but, 'special'. i hope you saw the 2 babies of 'mother of thousands'. I just aquired this plant, and apparently, it could be considered 'invasive' in my area... i haven't put it in the ground yet, but i plan on it soon.. I am really glad you are happy with the boxes... Echeveria pulvinata - Rosy - this was the trunk like cutting i sent with the fuzzy leaves, green with a rosy tint.. these make a great bonsai... i've had mine like a bonsai but i need to reshape mine. Kalanchoe luciae ssp - Flapjacks - this is the small baby i sent, rooted, that had the green oval almost heart shappend leaves with a red tinge around the outer edges... this will get much bigger... i sent you one of my smallest babies. Ledebouria socialis - Silver Squill - one of my favorite 'low growers'. i love the flowers it puts out this time of year... and i really hope the flower stalks survived the travel! x Pacheveria - Powder Puff - this was a rooted piece as well, the one with small finger like leaves on a skinny trunk... this one tends to lay on the ground and trail. another possible small hanging basket specimin. x Graptoveria Douglas Huth - this is the tall one that i sent in the pot. I've had that one in a pot for over a year. the plant will only get about as tall as it is now, well, technically, taller, when they get tall like that, the 'leave heads' tend to bend the trunk to the ground... where it will root... than other leave heads will produce around the trunk... I should take a picture of mine that did that... its simply beautiful!!! there of course was more, but i guess i have to get the names and they are outside... those are the ones i have recently aquired and haven't even potted up yet... if i have forgotten anything, let me know! I am realy glad you enjoyed the boxes Deb! This swap has been awsome!!!!!! Blessed Be, ps. I just recently purchased a website, and i'm working on creating a gallery, after the fog lifts this morning, I'll be taking lots of pictures and putting them up, so you can see which ones are which... |

| oh mary ellen, i am so thrilled that you liked everything. i was so happy to share a piece of my uncle with you. all your wonderful prayers and kind words and thoughts, not just then, but always. you are tops in my book, lady! when i saw that book, i thought of you right away since you have that mini animal farm going! if i did it right, the unknown is from my mom's. i am hoping i can ID it as well. so whichever one of us finds out first, we will have to share! theresa, my gift to you is on the way! and i don't think you should feel bad about accepting the gifts. heck, that was a part of the rules when we all signed up to play! you may not think you are doing a lot, but you organize the swap and its your responsibility to make sure everyone plays your month according to the rules. i am so thrilled, my daylily order came in from the auction. i highly recommend rainbowhill daylily farm and will do business with them for years and years to come. right in time too, because next month is our daylily swap! i can't wait to share the bounty this seller bestowed on me! i'll have to start thinking about my partner real soon. the rain has not let up yet. i don't mind, rather use God's water for the garden then pull out hoses and sprinklers and all that. i so hose challenged, it's pathetic. we need it, but not this hard. i prefer that constant light sprinkle. it totally took off every bloom from all the azaleas and making mush out of other things. my peonies are popping! the guy across the street, his are blooming. looking forward to my blooms. well, have to get back to work. YUCK be well everyone. stay dry! maryanne/earthly |
