UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!
| | |
Posted by mamabirrd z5/6 PA (My Page) on Thu, May 25, 06 at 15:12
This round robin is an extention of a wonderful group of talented , generous and spirited traders, the Traveling Daylilies, who when at all possible trade daylilies. The way into this group is to have traded with at least one of us and to be recommended for membership by one of more members of the group. We are not snobs, we just want to protect each other and you from any game traders... should there be any. If you know any of us, email privately and they will be allowed to get you in on their recommendation. We'd love to have you!
We're still working on our vacation & Hosta swaps......
Did somebody mention FOOD????????

I've been on vacation and am just getting back to tell you'll about my trip. Boy have I had a blast. I have seen some great things and met so many interesting people. I went with Florentine, you know she is the famous frog that has an iris named after her, and we had so much fun. Guess where we went--Hawaii- yep Hawaii. I took lots of pictures and will post them at a later date. Just wanted to let everybody know I made it back home and brought back with me a bunch of irises and daylilies and I'll be busy tomorrow getting them in the dirt. I wanted to especially let Brittneysgran know what a great vacation I had. |

| Marea sent me on a vacation to her home in Ashland, Oregon. She sent me tons of information about her town and the surrounding area. It looks like a beautiful area with a wide range of activities to keep a person busy for a long, long time. She welcomed me with a very pretty garden stake and handed me a rose named Paul Ricault. What a beauty with the most heavenly scent! She presented me with many of her beautiful daylilies: Karen Sue, Siloam Double Classic, Joylene Nichol, Lemon Chiffon, Bonanza, Rose of Yarrow, Black Plush, Victorian Lace, Ming Toy, and Numinous Moments. Marea, I want to thank you so very much for your wonderful thoughtfulness and generosity. Mary Ellen |

| What clever vacations! Great, you guys! Here's my daylily flower #2 for 2006 !! Another of Grace Stamile's intros, the bodacious 'Broadway Jazz': I really like the 2 color eye on this "mini" whose flowers are 3 times the size of "Stella", who opened today as #3. I read an utterly GORGEOUS BOOK titled "The Shadow of the Wind" this week that I highly recommend. ~m' |

Budsnblooms- Hey great slide show! First try and an expert already. I told my hubby about your huge mushroom! Altho I can't think of a mystery hosta I have. I took a yardstick out and measured a Sum and Substance i got last year in trade along with a stationwagon full of trade plants.---It is 4 ft across! I finally have a worthy hosta!! SHARON- I sent info to a friend re: salt tolerant plants last year. I think it was from a garden gate magazine. Do a search and see if you can find a list.... To me that hell strip looks like an excellent place to contain an invasive plant you don't want rooming around the rest of your yard. I too was surprised that salvia may night and walker's low catmint are not as tough (as nails) as I thought. I put out half my canna seedlings and tomato seedling yesterday. The robins are back- and sitting on 3 more eggs on my porch vine.. Round 2!! Oh I will be late for work. We celebrated the end of school with a little shopping and a bonfire to burn homework last night! Karen |

| Now I am really late, Happy Birthday Maryann. Hope you had a great time on your bday. Does that hosta sum and substance have a blue tint to it? Looked it up and it looks a lot like the one I have in some of the pics but in others it doesnt look like it at all. But it is big like that. I have never seen them that big. Merea, I agree about the kittens. We have a spot where people drop them off all the time. Until I got the ferrets I used to find them homes or place them in rescues but the ferrets are so susceptible to anything that cats carry that I can't risk it. Plus I had to learn from my mom that you can't save them all. She has five dogs and two cats. If I know her, more on the way. Looks like everyone is getting great vacations. I have to pass on the next couple of swaps. Getting up scapes everywhere. So excited. Sherri |

| Jo,I am so glad to hear that someone finally got them. I asked him when they were coming and got a not so nice reply. Wow Carol what did you order to be blessed with that one. She is a pretty and who did you order from? Sherri |
RE: UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!
| | |
I ordered from gardenweb on la, I accidentally ordered 2 of the same lilly one for 2.00 one for 7.00 I asked him if he could send something else in place of one, he sent double fans of everything I paid for singles, plus Betty and a perennial plant don't know what it is yet, I highly reccommend buying from him. Angie did your dahlias come? hope you like them, the store bought ones looked a bit dry but the white powdered ones from my garden looked good.I have daylilly seedlings I have been waiting three years for them to bloom, they have buds and look like ditch orange, I sure hope not, I no longer need pineapple sage, it came back after all. hugs to all. how is Gloria? |

| I just want to wish you all a HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!! The weather will be nice here after a few days of rain, so I hope to get alot done. I will be thinking of my two Grandfathers this Memorial Day. They were both very important people in my life and I miss them so much. My Grandpap John worked in the US Steel Mills here in Pittsburgh and took such good care of his family. He went to church every Sunday and loved to garden (veggies). I think that's where I got it. : ) My Grandpap Jim also worked in the steel mill after the military. He was a tank commander in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. Growing up, I loved spending time in the summer with him & gram at their cottage on the Connequenessing River in Zelienople, PA. It was right across the road from a golfcourse, and Pap & I spent alot of time in the canoe looking for golfballs that ended up along the riverbank. God bless America! Hugs to all of you, ~Dawn (mamabirrd) |
RE: UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!

| good morning everyone. i feel i have been away for so long and it's only been a week. i injured my eye. self-inflicted, didn't mean to do it, just my stupidity and it put me out of commission for a bit. nice way to spent my birthday, tied up in the hospital and blinded - temporarily THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! want to know what a foolish klutz i am? i'm almost embarrassed to say, but i'll share. in the not so light of day, i decided to shovel out some plants as i need to make room for some new iris and daylilies. well, when i bent down to get a better angle, i bent directly into a garden stake. O U C H to say the least. my eye itself was all scratched and irritated, i can still see the squiggly line in it but the outside where the stake "went through" took the bulk of the damage (again she says THANK GOD). i can deal with a scar, if that's to be, it will be a constant reminder of how foolish i can be, especialyl when i know better and don't listen to myself. enough about that :) hi everyone...hope you are all well. thank you for the birthday wishes. can't say it was my best one, but i made it through! i can't remember if i mentioned that i got my daylily order from the auction. i don't know what i did to deserve all the extras that brad sent to me. i've had several conversations with him and have enjoyed each of them. i just couldn't believe my eyes when that box arrived and i was marking off on my check list what was there against what i ordered. one fan of some turned out to be waaaay toooooo many. what a generous soul he is. i hope to do business with him again. heck, next year i'd like to go out and help him at this time of year. he told me he was so swamped with all the orders - even the auction owner was blown away by just how many orders went through. brad told me they were working around the clock doing their best to get everything out timely, in spite of the weather. one day he had over 200 emails. maybe next season i can go out and volunteer some time doing administrative stuff for him and they can do the digging and wrapping. again, what a generous soul. i'm so glad you told us about the offer anita. what a way to fill my garden. anita....200 at once. wow woman. next time i am up visiting my nephew in your neck of the woods, i'm going to have to make sure i see your place in person. i just love all your pics. how much ground do you have? how long will it take you to fill it? jo, your thgouths about your mom were so heartwarming. brought such tears to my eyes. having just suffered a personal loss of one of the dearest people in my life, i felt our hearts connected in our respective losses. my thoughts and prayers to you always. the vacation boxes sound great. now i totally understand them. my imagination wasn't working when the swap was suggested, but if it's ever run in the future, i'll be prepared. i think sue might be back in the hospital. waiting to hear. cody, what a fantastic idea for a swap. i don't know how many plants/flowers i have that are food named, but i want in if we do this. happy birthday anita's mom. my wish for you is good health, clean fresh breathable air and the love of family and friends to celebrate you all the days of your life! dawn, thanks for the cake. it was excellent! how's the construction going now that the rain has subsided? more pics please when you have a chance. marea, in the last thread you posted hosta pics, can you ID them? i have quite a few of those same ones and want to make sure i am ID'ing them properly. loving all the pics, great slide show sharon. marea, love your choice in D/L's, right up my alley - the ones with the two tones, darker centers just makes me go aaaaaaahhhhh! shirley, the iris are just beautiful - and i've already explained my thoughts about iris LOL i've been digging up some stuff from my mom's, moving things around and keeping some for myself. this is one of hers - no name, but if anyone knows, i'd appreciate it.
and here are my latest additions. the one looks a lot like lucky, but it's not. he lives next door now.
the brindle is lucy, the other is mickey, but i'm calling her gracie. they are so shy and skittish, but so very sweet. they are 5 years old. they are one of 5, their owner died in january, and other than the caretakers that came in and feed them and looked after them, they've lived on their own since january. before that, who knows what the deal was because when i say shy, it's so unbelievable. i'm sure in the few weeks to a month, they will come further out of their shells. i'm just glad they are mine now. here are some other pictures spin off
edith wolford
clematis2
feather hyacinth
spiderwort
peony
hazel's garden
sorry, i still can't resize these. i try, but it never takes. i use photobucket, so if anyone can tell me what to do, i'll be glad to follow the directions for future. enjoy your holiday weekend and remember to reflect why we celebrate memorial day. God Bless America, God Bless our veterans be well all, maryanne/earthly |

Just a note to share a sale with ya'll. Wayside Gardens is having a buy 1 get 2 free sale on Daylilies for the next few days. I can't vouch for their quality since I have never ordered from them but I figured what better group should know about a daylily sale =) Kelly |

| Maryanne/poor half blind thing who obviously is now older AND wiser - click on the EDIT button above your photos on PHOTOBUCKET - that takes you to a page of choices to resize or change names of one photo at a time. Oh Mary Ellen - I only wanted to make sure you got all the plants out of the newspaper, LOL! (Gloria has actually thrown away things she wasn't expecting to be enclosed - so I always check now...) Last but not least, you also got 'Celebration of Angels' in your box *grin* Hosta ID? I think we need The Hosta Queen or the Iowan Hosta Queen for this sort of thing - but here's a try...
From the left, back row: Guacamole, Wide Brim, *unknown* Middle row: 2 pots of Golden Tiara & a single eye of Halycon Front row: Undulata, American Halo & Striptease. I agree with ya'll - Brad Best IS AWESOME! I bought 5 cultivars in the $1 sale and got extra fans on all, if not 2 or 3 extras w/ nice big crowns - 4 were Munson's I shared with Debbie & we both got double what we expected.. I was amazed he was so generous on that pittance of an order. I saw all those sales going down & shuddered about all that work he had ahead of him. Just like our Anita the wonder planter and poor Deni with her thousands of projects... glad I'm down to just my semp project now - re-IDing them & potting up is easy compared to yours... And CAROL!! Lady Betty Fretz!!?? Wowza! Im glad for you! Food trade ~ this one could be SO fun! Food names, food, edible plants, mixed "salads".... marea |

| I don't spend that much for a plant, so it was the only way I would have gotten it. one of us just got sunday sandales. what a beauty, I will have to wait until it is older. I have fallen in love with gold ruffeled edges and they are all expensive. and I need to spend my money on spelling lessons. gw needs spell check. hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. hugs carol |

| I'm back!!!! I have been up at the lake since Thursday! It was really nice and warm but extremely windy yesterday. Carol, I did get your FANTASTIC vacation box. It came on Friday and DH brought it up to the lake where I put the plants in pots to bring home to my garden. Those plants did alot of traveling! Got home this afternoon and for some reason I could not get on to GW at all till now. For my vacation, I went to visit Carol in WA. That box was packed with goodies of all sorts and sizes. Plants: Lupine, Columbine, Foxglove, and Angelonia Dahlias: Smokey, Summersend, Passion, Goodwill 90(?) Cannas:City of Portland Candy: Almond Roca and Orchard Fruits, both made in WA Cute socks with a dog and a cat that say "friends" A cute froggie that sits on the rim of a pot A cute tiny glass ladybug! Salmon from the pacific Northwest Yellow Patio Lily bulbs 3 teal candles Seashell notepad Coffee- Foglifter postcards and a Seattle Mariner's sticker Thanks Carol for a wonderful trip. DH and my best friend who watched me open your box could not believe all the stuff you sent! I also got my order from the LA and he was very generous with the fans. I was pleased, too. I'm kinda tired from all the traveling so may just go to bed early! Our Air conditioner was "on the fritz" so did not sleep well the last 2 nights! It was 98 yesterday. Good thing we had fans and a strong breeze! MaryS |

| Jaye I mailed your box of hosta's Friday so you should receive them Tuesday or Wednesday. The confirmation number is: 0103 8555 7498 0754 2595. Marea I received the box of Munson's Friday as I was leaving for the weekend to attend a family reunion and also to visit with my sisters. I returned home last night and got the daylilies planted in the Munson bed today. Thank you also for the Bitsy Green...It is now in the new shade bed....That bed is filling up fast...yeah...can't wait to see it next year. How much do I owe you for my part of all these daylilies? Deni....sending you an e-mail. Cody....Are you sponsoring the second June swap? I think you said something about plants with food names. If so, I will watch for more details. These 2 pictures are of the old smokehouse that sits in my garden. It isn't used to smoke and preserve meat anymore. We use the right side for storage and the left side is a workshop. We just finished with the rock surrounding the flower beds. This first picture shows the front of the smokehouse with its 3 small beds.
This is the left side of the smoke house (faces north). The plants are undulata's and palace purple heuchera for the shady side.
Rock is something we have lots of on the farm. I haven't taken pictures of the other 2 sides. I will if anyone is interested. Don't forget to show us your pictures of your flower beds, yard art, interesting projects etc. as well as the beautiful flower pictures. I'll write more later. Debbie/budsnblooms |

| Dianne-Congratulations on that precious little grandson. I know you are proud of him. I agree with Dawn you do not look old enough to be a grandma. Debbie-Love the pictures of the old smokehouse. Brings back alot of precious memories for me. Has any one heard from Tanarae? Its been along time since she posted. I got a letter from Annie she hopes to be back with us soon. Computer problems and then her husband got down so it took all the money for that. She says thanks Deni for the magazine for her Birthday. She loves it. Shirley |

Dawn - your hosta shuffle box is finally out in today's mail. No comments on food idea? C'mon, you guys, help me here w/ reactions? CODY?? If you host a swap, you set the rules, manage the pairing somehow & oversee that everyone gets their boxes.... Deni - I especially love page 48 of this month's issue of my VERY MUCH APPRECIATED birthday magazine - the table setting with succulents and seashells and strawberries. What a magnificent garden party! The photos are all just dreamy - thanks again.

| Shirley - your vacation box went out today, DC 0304 7990 0000 5496 3722. Baby granddaughter Marie and family will be here this Thurs. She is a great big baby of 10 mos. now, starting to crawl. We're busy getting all the floors super clean and baby proofing. The old roller rink in town has been restored and we'll probably all go there. Mom and Dad can skate and we'll watch with Marie. Daughter Eve will be here next week, and we hope to go antiquing and learn Mah Jong better. Beautiful flowers, everybody. Our DL's, the new ones, have blooms coming - I'm so excited to see them all. The grass is growing about an inch an hour. We have to mow again, too. Man, it's been hot! Over 90. Barb |

| Surgery???? Gloria??? Did I miss something? Oh G, I hope everything goes smoothly and that you feel better quick. Hugs to you........we miss you!! Canna, Hosta's were sent on their way yesterday. DC# 0304 3490 0000 2920 0491 I hope you like. : ) I had a very bad evening on Memorial Day and was still pretty shaken yesterday and realized after I mailed your box that I spelled something wrong inside. I'll tell you after you get the box and will fix it for you. I still can't believe what my FIL did Monday night. I had just got out of the shower and went upstairs to get dressed. For a second, I thought I was dreaming as I looked out my window and saw a strange man jumping through my flowers up at the pond. He had a net in his hand. Then I see some woman i've never seen before pulling the net off the pond, laughing and having a good old time. All the while, trampling plants. What the heck??? Am I awake?? Then I see someone else, and realize it's DH's Dad. When it finally occurs to me what is going on.....I ran out the door. As I storm outside, heart racing, I see that my shed has been opened. Then I see this idiot with the net chasing fish. I said..."HELLO...What's going on???". His father turns around and said "OH, I didn't think you were home. We're just getting some fish". Well, to make a L-O-N-G story short, I put a stop to it. They were using one of my Rubbermaid containers that I store pool chemicals in to put the fish in. They had 5 of my poor, scared fish in it. I made them put them back and said I really would have appreciated a phone call and that I was really caught off guard. I didn't appreciate people I didn't know treating my home with such disrespect, and that if he wanted fish he should have called me and I would have caught him a few babies MYSELF. The best part of the story is that these idiots were on motorcycles and were going to take my poor fish home in the saddlebags! They never would have survived the trip! The worst part of the story is that sadly, one of the fish that had been in the container was dead yesterday morning. My DH was just as shocked as I was, and can't believe his father would treat us this way. These fish are our pets and they were treating them like bait. There is a right way and a wrong way to catch fish and they were definately doing it the wrong way. It was over 90 degrees out and my fish were so stressed and scared. They are still hiding. One of my mini Sedum's that i've been babying for two years got trampled by that idiot woman. You should have seen her pulling MY net off MY pond. When I appeared, she dropped the net and walked away and sat on my bench. I am still shaken up and have felt so sick. I can't believe it. Can you? ~Dawn (mamabirrd) |

Dawn-No wonder you are mad....OHHHHH i would be mad also. Didn't think you were home???? The poor fish. Didn't know about Gloria having surgery either. Hope it goes ok. Gloria hang in there we miss you. Barb-Will let you know when my vac. box arrives. Shirley |

| Dawn, Unbelievable!!! Hopefully your FIL will see his wrong and apologize. Sometimes people do the darndest things without thinking, but don't mean to 'hurt'. Hopefully he will see that he has hurt the trust you two have in him. Jo, I had the funnest time getting your 'June Hosta Box' ready to go. I picked out so much, I had to send 2 boxes... yikes! So be sure you get 2. confirmation #'s 0306 0320 0000 3238 5146 0306 0320 0000 3238 5139 We had a wonderful time at the cottage, opening it up for the summer. It is lots of work, but fun. Dad is there and it was great to see him. Nope, I still haven't planted anything there ... yet. Maybe next year. grin Sharon/tma |

| Hi All, They say 1 person is not given more than they can handle, I am really rethinking that!!! Jo's DH had a massive heart attack yesterday, Right now he is doing OK, they are waiting for the test to come back to see how much damage was done. She got home from the hospital today to find her pond pump had malfunctioned & she lost almost all of her fish, Many might think oh, they are just fish, but not to Dawn, Jo, Myself & many others they are our baby's! I don't know when Jo will be on to post. Sharon, I will let Jo know you sent her 2 box's. Rebecca, Praying all the way for your family, So sad. Dawn, And they lived to walk away? Dianne, CONGRATULATIONS, Trust me no need for you to bottle it, The feeling will stay strong forever:) Have to get back to the plant's. Anita |

| Jaye....Glad you enjoyed the hosta box...The name of the daylily that got rubbed off was Lavender True. Angie...You should have received your vacation box too. I bet it got held up because of memorial day. If you don't get it today, let me know and I'll do a status check. Rebecca...I am so sorry for your families loss. I can't imagine that kind of devastation. Your family is in my prayers. Gloria...prayers for a speedy recovery to you too. Let us know as soon as you can, how you are doing...your friends are worried ((((hugs)))) Cody...sign me up for your swap and let me know if I can help. Dawn...I'm sorry for your loss too. Loss of trust in someone can be hard to regain. Your DH must also be very hurt that his dad didn't think about what these people were doing to your pets and property. Maybe he will have an explanation, but I can't imagine what it would be. Marea...Check your paypal account....Are you sure I don't owe you more? That doesn't sound like very much for all those plants. Royal Heiress is about to bloom, I'll post pictures when it does. I'm glad you and Shirley enjoyed the pictures of the old smokehouse, hubby is so pround of his rock work...I may convince him to do another job or two with the rock. More pictures of my flower beds as they progress will be posted as creations in progress:P Debbie |

| Dianne, I know what you mean about bottling that feeling. It's like nothing else. I have a new granddaughter too. Jerry's daughter had her baby 2 months early Thursday. Mother and baby are both doing fine. Debbie, I want to see more pictures of the smoke house too and any others ya'll have to share. Dawn, I'd be getting me some gators or crocs to put in that pond for the next time somebody tried that insane stunt! Gloria, you are in my prayers too and I hope everything turns out well and you're back with us quickly. Jo, OH MY GOSH! I don't know what to say except that my heart goes out to you and your family. My prayers are with you all and especially your DH. I've been thru it with mine and it was the hardest thing I've ever faced besides losing my mama. I know there will be lots of us on our knees with arms uplifted for you all and everyone who needs it in our group or in our lives tonight. If the power of prayer really works and I KNOW it does there will be some miracles come from all this. Big, big hugs and an ear to listen any time you need it. Hugs to all, Nancy |

Wow what a week. If you click on the link, this is my cousin, I am so darn mad at him it isn't even funny. His mother (my aunt) died early Saturday morning. She had been ill with cancer for about a year and a half. From what we understand my cousin went to their house and that is where they caught him. He has always been in trouble. My uncle certainly didn't need this turmoil. He has/had enough on his plate. They must live close to Cannas family because there is a link to Canna's story below my cousins. Canna and Jo so sorry to hear about everything. Jo prayers for your husband. I received my dahlia box and it was plum full of Dahlia's-there must have been 10 differnt ones. I am going to share with my neighbor. Thank you much Carol. I have only ever grown a few and hope I don't kill these. I sent yours this morning. I hope you don't have them. I received my Vacation box from Debbie and it was a hoot. My gosh girl, there were like 16 new daylilys in there and Black Mondo, I have wanted that for 3 years and have never bought it. Also I was tickled to get the walking Iris after I seen the picks you posted. If you have the poem saved on your computer please email, I would like the group to read. You did an awesome job on that and have much more creativity than I ever will have. I just laughed at that!!!! Is anyones Lily's blooming that you guys bought???? I have had a few new ones bloom this week. I must go for now. Be safe everyone. Angie |

Angie, about your cousin ... there seems to be one in every family somewhere ... even if we don't talk about them here. You and your family are in my prayers also cause I know the heartache they can bring to a family. Even if you aren't close to them you still are hurt by the destruction they cause, even if it is to know that someone related to you could do such things. sharon/tma |

| Hi all, Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes this week. It was much needed and is still needed. We buried our sweet baby boy this morning surrounded by those that loved him so. He has blessed and touched so many lives in his short three years. Even in his death he blessed my family with a somewhat reunion of my siblings that have been split for many years now. Tons of hugs and 'I love you' all around. Jo, I want you to know that you are also in my prayers. Wish full recovery for your husband. Dianne! What a blessing and congratulations! Spoil him rotten for me! Dawn, I just received the hosta swap box today and I love them all. Where's the beer? :) Thank you so much for the great tags too. Rain is a comin' finally to relieve us from this heat. So, I better get out and plant my new babies. Anita, I should have your hostas out at the beginning of the week. I hope you all have a blessing in your life today, whether it be big or just a little smile to warm your heart. Rebecca |

What fun my vacation was. Shirley |

Good Morning all, I just wanted to thank you all once again for the thoughts and prayers. MY DH IS H0ME.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His cardiologist is pleased with his recovery. So, they sprung him early. On Tues. he left to go to work, on his way he started to feel awful. He sat a redlight, and it got worse still. He debated as to if he should come back home, or go to the hosp. He chose the hosp. His cardiologist said that is what saved his life. He was in the ER and on the table when he went into full cardiac arrest. They had to shock him twice to bring him back.He was in critical condition when he moved to the ICU/CCU. They did angioplasty, and put in 2 stents. He had one completely blocked artery and another that was mostly blocked. He started to improve immedietaly. By wed.early afternoon he was off all 6 of the IV drugs they had him on. He improved so quickly, they decided he didn't even need to move to the stepdown unit, they sent him home instead. He has to very careful for some time, and he has mucho meds to take, but the doc said if he takes his meds, quits smoking(he already has) and does all he is supposed to, he will live to be a very old man. So, We are happy with how everything has turned out. Everyone keeps telling me these things come in 3's, first my mom, then my DH, and as Anita told you, my pump malfunctioned, causing the biofilter to quit, and in the 98 degree temps, all my koi died, most of my fancies too. I lost around 40 of my fish, I have just a few small ones left now. I came home on Wed to shower and change, and there they all are. So, I am scooping and balling my head off, as I am draining most of the pond so I can refill it with fresh water. I fixed the pump, and the filter, and it is running well now, but the loss is still hurting. It was just the last straw in a very stressfull 2 days. But, we are home and DH is doing well, although very sore from the shocking in the ER and the heart cath. But, we have faced it all, and now everything will improve, I just know it. thanks again everyone. Well, we are out to do some planting. I am gonna allow DH to pot up my greenhouse seedlings that have been patiently waiting. It is non stressful, and I can put everything on the potting bench, he cans it there and put all the little guys in new, bigger pots, and I can do the hard work, but he is still helping A LOT. Rebbeca, I am so sorry about your little nephew. My heart goes out to your family. It is never easy to lose "anyone", but a tiny child is so tragic. Most likely the parents are doing the "if only we had....." but they cannot blame themselves. Please tell them they (and you all) are in my prayers. Dianne, You look so proud and beautiful in that pic. And he looks like his grandma(smiles) Congratulations. Everyones vacation boxes are wonderful, so much imagination went into them. Can we do it again next summer???????? PUHHHHHHHHHHLLEEEEEEAASSSSSSE!!!!!!! If so, I have dibs on Marea(big grins) Shirley, and Sherri, I will be in touch about our trades, I am sorry it has taken so long. Well, Off to be with DH, have a great day all. BIG, BIG HUGS TO YOU ALL, Jo |

Good Morning1 Sounds like everyone is getting some great vacations! Canna, Hugs and prayers to you and your family. How tragic to lose a child! Those poor parents. Jo, (((hugs))) Hope your DH is recovering. Gloria, Hope surgery went OK and that you are recovering nicely. Diane and Nancy, Congratulations on the new grandbabies! Mellen, I hope to get your hostas out first of next week. Are you done with school there? Dawn, That was perfectly awful what your FIL was doing with your fish! I'd say you have every right to be angry! I have found 4 dead baby birds floating in my pond this week. Does anybody (mamabird?)have any suggestions to prevent that? I think they try to get a drink and fall in (?)Its kinda sad! Well better go and work in the flowers! Many weeds to be pulled! MaryS |

| Meghan, your boxes came! All three! Meghan and I went to New Zealand, where we hiked one of the "Long Walks", were amazed by all the ferns and tree ferns, had a delicious meal in a local restaurant, and visited a museum where we learned a lot about the country. We also brought home a lot of plants, but oddly enough, Meghan ended up with them all and had to box up a bunch and send them to me! (Meghan, you crack me up) She sent me a map of NZ and a copy of Stewart's "The Great Walks." Good thing I have the books, too, because we only stayed there 3 days. And then there were the ferns she sent - Fern Vine, Wood fern, Cinnamon fern, Sun fern and Lady fern, with 2 nice slabs of green ground moss the tuck them in with. She sent me a whole mess of plants, including: Parrot Lily Purple Hidden Ginger Begonias 'Cocktail Vodka' and 'Cocktail Whiskey' Stokes Aster Fuschia And daylily starts! Coral Cay Fairest of Them - so pretty! Small Gesture Teller of Tales Little Dreamer Prairie Blue Eyes - I wanted this one! Palace Garden Beauty - oh my Night Embers Spacecoast Sweetness Raindrop Happy Returns Navy Blues - wow!!! Jason Salter All such nice ones. And to make it up to the dogs and cats for leaving them behind: Cat treats Cat toy that twirls a feather birdie on a wand Rawhide dog treats Dog squeak toy - Tiger and Possum are all over that! And then to top it off, some gifts, assorted, all appreciated: Facial massage kit Big household shears 2 candles, 1 smells like coconut, the other blueberry A palm tree candle holder (this is cute, Meghan) 2, count them, 2! big bags of Lifesavers Metal wall pocket - a pretty thing And BOOKS! Brooklyn Botanic Gardens "Perennials" Sunset "Annuals and Perennials" Firefly "Flora" Dictionary of Plant Names All in all, a dandy box, fun to recieve, very thoughtful and generous. Thank you, Meghan. |

| Good morning everyone, I am up early as DH and I will be helping my sister & her soon to be DH move into their new home. We have to pick up the truck at 7:30. She rented a giant U-haul and called to tell me that she had a problem.......they couldn't drive it because it was a standard. I laughed and told her not to worry......I would drive it. She just couldn't believe that I knew how to drive a 5 speed, LOL. They closed on the house on Wednesday and we painted all day. They've spent the last two mornings getting all cleaned up and are so excited to finally be able to sleep there today. I'm very excited for her. : ) Since I will be gone all day, I wanted to take a second to give a sincere thanks to my generous, thoughtful, and very special Daylily Angels........... First to Marea for the Hosta Shuffle box.........just magnificent! It was packed with the most gorgeous plants, none of which I had. 'Striptease'.....ooooooooo it's so awesome....even better in person. I have a whole list to detail and will do so tomorrow when I can spare some more time. You filled my heart with so much Hosta happiness and I thank you so much. If that wasn't enough, she sent me a most wanted Hem. 'Night Wings'. Potted it up in the dark last night, lol, and can't wait to give it a special spot at my new house. Finally, she sent me something that DH and I absolutely love and can't believe she found this most perfect thing.......a little plaque that reads "Welcome Angels and Birds". I love, love, love it!!!! Thank you my dear friend for your generosity and thoughtfulness. HOSTA HUGS!!!! On to the Vacation box.........Oh Deni.......where do I begin?????? Listen up........Deni sent me not one, not two, not even three boxes for this swap. I lugged home FOUR heavy boxes from our most generous Angel. I couldn't even begin to start opening them, as I was overwhelmed. Just the postage she had to put towards these boxes was waaaay too much. It's going to take me a month of Sundays to tell you all the fabulous things I brought back from my tour of the South. Deni treated me with such southern hospitality, I can't even tell you. Thank you dear heart.........you are one of a kind. I will detail each and every thing tomorrow as well, when I have more time to type. My DH couldn't believe all that was sent and I think he wants to be a Traveling Daylily, LOL. I would also like to take a minute to tell Canna and Meghan that i'm so sorry. After receiving my swap boxes, I realized that the ones I sent were just put to shame. I always put so much heart into my boxes, but I think a little was missing this time. Reading about all your vacations has just been amazing. Friends, you have made me realize something this day....I need to s...l...o...w down and remove some of my stresses. I am turning over a new leaf and hope to re-focus myself, so the important things (like our swaps) don't pass me by. I am going to put my foot down, and when someone, like FIL, decides to come along and take away a whole week of my life I will be better prepared to handle the situation. I will not let things like that happen, or get in the way of my life. I hope Canna and Meghan know that I truly meant to send a nice package to them and wanted them to feel as special as I always do. Thank you all for being the best friends. It's time for me to go help my sis, but i'll be back asap. I hope each of you has a great weekend. HUGS, ~Dawn (mamabirrd) PS: MaryS, Jo, Barb, etc., I have bunches to say and didn't forget about you. : ) |

| good afternoon everyone. hope you are well. it's another muggy, rainy day. i'll take the rain though, easier on the water bill and makes it a cinch to weed. i'm happy to report that my two new girls are really adjusting. each day i realize they must have really undergone some type of abuse. but they are really developing more and more trust as the hours pass. i think all the thunder and lightning helped in the trust issue, as they will not leave my side, especially gracie, who couldn't be bothered before that. the brindle one (lucy) is just a real sweetheart, a little more trusting than grace. i guess she took the worst of it with all five of them, being the youngest/smallest. diane, how wonderful. God's blessings on everyone :) i just love the smell of a new baby, and i'm probably one of those weird ones that loves the sound of an infant's cry. around this time next month, it will be my turn. just wish the mom was a warmer person. dawn, where was the red rider bb gun when you needed it? a little shot in the azz would have cured both of them from trespassing. is that in his nature to be that way or is he influenced by his companion? and what on earth ever made him think to just go do that - especially without asking? makes ya wonder what he's done in prior times without your knowledge. in any event, what a jerk. i remember at one point after my father died, my sister had come into my house to visit my son who was home sick. i had a plant in a beautiful planter and when i got home, there was the plant and dirt, but no planter. my son told me she said an old boyfriend had given her that and she took it because it was hers! can you imagine? after that, if she wanted to come into my house, i better be there and she better be invited. she swore up and down it was hers. funny, i had the sympathy card, florist card, etc. to go with it. i let it go. she must have needed it more. talk about jerks. jo, i am so thrilled to hear the wonderful news about your husband. i'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers as well. i sure hope you and anita have a great visit together today. wow, i am amazed at all these hosta boxes and vacation boxes. they are sounding like so much fun. someone was asking about tana. she was in a crafters' swap recently and i recall her posting that the business was really sucking up all her time. great to hear that she got that off the ground. gloria, i sure hope all is well with you. can anyone suggest a nice vacation place, within the united states, where older teenagers would really enjoy themselves? i'm open to any suggestions. would be great if there was some wonderful public gardens to see there as well. here are some of my asiatics in bloom ~~ rain and all ~~ and a big thanks to marea for instructing me on the resizing of pictures. cancun

| Good afternoon Angel's I feel like Charlie when i say that...lol I received my Vacation Box from Anita today...Wow I had a great time. I will let Anita post my story but I will go ahead and give you a list of the wonderful things inside. First, about a month ago I received a packet of address lables with the sweetest little angels on them. I was not sure where or who they came from until Anita emailed me to ask if I had received them. By that time I had been enjoying them for a week or two :) They are almost gone. I did save a few of each to go in my scrap book. Now on to what came today, The following Daylilies where included in my box. Soft Summer Night ...Oh I have wanted this one Golden compass...another I love Mary Berry...I have to look this one up Anasazi...wonderful Bridal Suite...I had it and lost it so I get a second chance..Yeah Circle of Secrets....Yummmy Fresh Air...have to look this one up Siloam Dark Lace...another I have wanted Better than Ever...Will have to look this one up Dark and Handsome...in my top ten wants For your eyes only....another I have wanted Becky Stone....yet another I have wanted Then if that where not enough....A beautiful Golden Angel Box....it is filled with the most awesome stuff...Golden Angel Bath Gel, Bubble Bath, Soap Cube, and Body Lotion, all in Vanilla...so wonderful i am going to go try them out in a moment. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Anita, I had such a GREAT Time. Now, I would like to address Dawns post....Dawn, Honey you do not need to feel like that. Meghan loved her box. She will be posting it in a few. We got everything planted up today and she is still out cleaning up. Please do not let the boxes that I/we send be something that makes you feel that way...the box you sent was great. I tend to go overboard sometimes when i send boxes. I had so much fun getting things together for yours as did Meghan with Barbs, I am also sorry you did not get the great story like all the rest. I had it all done and some how it got deleted when I went to print it. I did not have tiem to redo it so I did the one I sent in your box. For that I am Truly sorry. The story tied everything in together. I thought maybe some of those things would get you geared up to travel south for a real vacation sometime soon. :) But please do not think you slighted anyone in their vacation box. Meghan loved everything you sent her as I am sure she will let you know when she gets in here. Ok I am going to go grab a shower so we can go grab something to eat. I am having a blast hearing about all the vacations. Have a Great Rest of the Weekend Angel's Deni |

Hi Everyone, I just had to come here and tell you all what a wonderful friend my dear Anita is. We had a great visit today, and when we got there, she handed me 2 pots with daylilies in them, one was for my Christmas gift-Hillbilly heart (needed for my fam garden for DH, all our sons friends called him a hillbilly when they were young, he used to wear a full beard) And the other was for my B-day- Azure Violets, just cause I loved it and she knew it. Now isn't she just the sweetest, and bestest friend ever. Love ya girlfriend!!!! Maryanne, thank you for the kind thoughts and prayers. Love your lilies, they just brighten up whatever spot you put them don't they? Dawn, WOW, how did you manage to not sock them in the nose? I would have been screaming like a maniac, and threatening to call the police, on my FIL too. How COULD he do that to you? He has got to know what they mean to you.I just cannot believe he would be so callous and uncaring. He has to get the jerk of the year award. Well, once again I am off to spend the evening with my DH. We didn't get outside much today, it has rained here all day, and has been chilly, so I made DH stay inside for the most part. Several of his meds cause him to be cold, so he needs to stay warm. Both of us will be glad when he can once again resume his normal activeties. have a wonderful evening everyone, hugs, Jo |

| Mary, I received my huge package today taking me around the world! It was Awesome! Mary sent me around the world to collect plants. I got to leave my husband, Paul, at home. Thank heavens! He drives me a little nuts following me around when I go plant shopping. I hardly ever take him with me anymore. How in the world did you know Mary??? I packed up all of my digging tools(a beautiful well-made Garden Tool Set) and off I went with yummy Chocolate in my new straw purse. It was a "Whirlwind"(hosta) trip. In a short time I had collected: European Ginger, English Primrose,'Sue Jervis'; Tiarella,'Spanish Cross'; Japanese Anemone,'Robitussima'; Siberian Iris,'Butter & Sugar'(hybridized by Maine's own Dr. Currier McEwen, who is now deceased); and Viola,'Dancing Geisha'. It was fun but what an exhausting trip and soon I had my,'Eye On America'(hemerocallis). It was a 'Joyful'(hosta) day when I returned home to my 'American Sweetheart'(hosta), Paul. Upon arriving home Paul had another surprise for me: A 'Double Dream',(hemerocallis)vacation. He took me away to 'San Juan Silver',(TB Iris) for some R & R. He actually packed my bags with everything I would need for a nice warm climate: Flip-Flops, Sunglasses, a straw beach hat, frozen Cosmos, etc. Unfortunately, we became homesick for our 3 cats. They were beckoning us home. We had one 'Last Dance'(hosta) together by Candlelight(Pineapple and Cantaloupe). Since our layover on our flight home was in Rochester, New York we decided to make a quick visit to 'Cherokee Mary'(hemerocallis)AKA. MaryBz5NY to give her a personal thank you. We'll never forget our fabulous vacations and hope to re-visit some of our destinations again! A Very Big Thank You Mary! It was the most fun I remember having on a vacation in a long, long time. Love, Lisa |

| Deni's May Vacation One, SOFT SUMMER NIGHT Deni grabbed her GOLDEN COMPASS, and headed off to find her long lost school friend's, She only had 2 weeks for this vacation, so she knew she had to move fast, After days of looking state to state, she finally found her best friend BECKY STONE, The 2 of them then set out to find other's, Traveling hills & valleys they finally located long lost MARY BARRY, Thinking between the 3 of them, now how are we going to find the 4th missing friend, They heard she may be at a local hotel, When they arrived, They were told, She had left already, Sadden by this, they did not want to give up hope, They traveled on, Thinking maybe a new dress would make them feel better, so off they went to the best store in that town, They found the most beautiful dress designed by SILOAM it was covered in DARK LACE, All 3 bought one & headed off again, Not long after, they finally found the 4th missing friend ANASAZI, They thought about what a journey they had been on & needed to get some sleep, When they located a hotel it was full the only room left was the BRIDAL SUITE, it did not take them long to say, We'll take it, After talking & giggling all night they all thought, this is BETTER THAN EVER, They spent the last few days of Deni's vacation together, When they parted they decided it all would be their CIRCLE OF SECRETS, Unfortunately Deni had to return home, were she pampered herself with a hot bath, trying out each item in her golden angel box, She gasped as her bathroom door opened, in came a DARK & HANDSOME man, telling her this is FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, Deni took in a breath of FRESH AIR, She had to be good as, she knew she would tell all her Traveling Daylily Friends about this vacation, so she sent him away & lived happily ever after. |

i thought someone said that there was already a swap going on for june, so mine can wait till july. i'll post rules as soon as i think of them. if there isn't a swap for june already in progress, how about a daylily/iris/succulent/hosta/etc swap. something like in the old days when it was just, send so many plants including extras if you want? or send a box that will make your recipient happy, no rules? cody |

| Beautiful, beautiful plants, people, as always! Beautiful grandbaby, too, Dianne! You look pretty good yourself... And Dawn, don't you worry, you are so warm and generous, everybody here would cut you some slack any time you needed. Can't believe your fish story - poor babies - how could anyone be so crass!? And it is such fun to share your housebuilding. I hope everyone who is ill is coming along, better and better every day. It's not where you are; it's the direction you're going. The Memorial Golf Tournament came to central Ohio and clouds of lightning and pouring rain came with it as always. The beautiful course was awash. My iris, round two, were soaked and beaten every day and even plants I've never needed to stake are down or leaning. No pretty pictures from here just now... DD Jess and her DH and bouncing baby Marie just left. Baby is such a fun, smiley baby! Awfully good-natured. I'll get a pic up shortly. DD Eve may be here this weekend. <> Jo, have you in my thoughts every day. So glad to hear how well your sweetie is recovering. Gloria - think of you every day. You'll be fine and we'll be glad to have you back. Barb |
RE: UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!

| good lord the general plant trade forum is getting soooo frustrating!! i've made a few posts in which i'm very specific about what i want, but do people read them or check my pages? absolutely not!! it's the same gripe i've had for a while, but it's driving me crazy again!! there really isn't anywhere else for me to go for plant trading and i HATE ordering out of catalogues, it's always such a dissappointment. ok...i was going to continue with my rant, but i appear to have run out of steam!! paul do you have any named epi cuttings you want to trade? well since no ones actually said anything about a june swap and i can't find anything, i'll take point on this one too. july will be the food swap. sign up needs to be by 10 pm est, sunday, june 11. it'll be called the make your partner smile box. there are no rules, except that it must contain at least five plants. one of these must be a plant that you love, but they don't have listed as either a have or a want. tell them why you love it. the deadline for mailing will be june 28. i was just saying daylilly, hosta, iris, sedum, heuchera trade since we all seem to collect those. partners will be posted sunday night, after 10 pm. thanks yall cody |
RE: UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!
| | |
| Cody, just wanted to point out how close June 28 is to the beginning of the 4th of July Holiday. Lots of people on vacation. People will really want to work it out with their partner when the plants can be shipped. I am sooooo tempted to do this one... but gardens are filling FAST! Thinking about it ... sharon/tma |
RE: UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!
| | |
| ok then, instead of the june 28th deadline, email your partner and find out when would be the best time to ship. remember mail goes slower around the fourth! |
RE: UPDATE: 8200 Traveling Daylilies!

| Happy Hump Day! Marea, I received the dvds. Thank you. Cody, sure... I have plants I can make cuts from. Any particular color or shape you like? I can make a list and email it to you. Speaking of epi's, here's Beyond Belief. It's medium to large size, but the soft touches of colors are... beyond belief:
Thanks, Paul |

Cody, Why don't you post here what you're looking to trade? I hear we're all pretty reliable and generous traders. Count me in for the Smile Trade. I can't stop smiling since the cutest, smartest, best-smelling, softest baby in the universe entered my life. Grandmotherly yours, Dianne |

| I guess I will finish out the thread. I have been busy as usual, thes boys keep me on my toes. I have poisen ivy between my fingers and it is in the nasty puss stage (sorry). I feel like I have an alien hand. I potted up my 39 coral bells from one of the co-ops, I am so happy with the plants. I have 2 more orders coming in and have no clue where to put them. Those that were going in on the Daylilys from Maryotts, I paid for them and requested an early shipping date, so hopefully they come this month! If we get any bonus I will split them with you guys. Susie the other blue hosta is Bressingham Blue, I was having a brain fart that day. I thought that was the name but wanted to double check, it is the only blue hosta I have. looks like everyone has had great boxes, I finally have daylilys blooming, if I ever get time I will post some pictures. My Lilies are in full force right now, I have one section with about 100 blooming now, very pretty. This weekend I finally got all the dahlias, glads and other things planted. I only have 5 pots sitting in the drive way looking for a home-(except for the 39 +9 other coral bells) Life is good!!! Got to go Take care all Angie |
