YO TRACY,
I didn't fly anywhere, I'm still checking in here for posts daily! I came home from work today to find a new garden prepped and waiting for plants. whoo hoo! we took a ride to home depot and walmart cuz that's all that was open here in own. I picked up a few plants, one was called umm something gnome. It's really cute! I'm so glad that hazelnut got a kick out of the hand! It's nice to be surprised sometimes. To all the Moms in here, Have a happy Mothers day!!! I'll posts some pics of my new area sometime tomorrow

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Yay! My baby came home for a visit! That is awesome about the bed being prepped for you. Did your hubby do that for you? That was so sweet! You'll have to tell me the name of the gnome plant so I can find some to put with the rain gnomes.

I love your surprise for Miss Bunny! I know you got some good giggles out of her. I had this confused look on my face when I first glimpsed the hand in her picture, I thought "who moved the hand and took a new picture?" Talk about a blond moment! LOL! Duh! Happy Mother's Day to you too! I hope you get to do something special and fun with the family!

 o

Monday

Happy Monday morning to everyone!

NEWBIES: Please remember that your SEND date is THURSDAY MAY 15TH. If you haven't sent out your GWE'S thank you by that date, you will NOT receive a package from your GWE.

Ladies, has anyone heard anything from these partners lately? Specifically, has anyone heard from these newbies?

*Peony3 & Pat
*Christie & Becky
*Aimee & Mao

GWE'S: Please remember to post if you've received something from your newbie. Also, please post when you've sent. Include delivery confirmation on your package, also. This helps protect everyone involved.

ALSO: If we don't hear anything from either these NEWBIES OR GWE'S by the 15th, we will consider this swap closed, and start making plans for the next round. :O)

Thanks for your help, girls!

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

I've not heard a thing from any of those, Melissa. I've not seen them posting elsewhere either.

WooHoo... there's another round to this?!! Spill girlfriend! I wanna know! Hehehehe

I heard from Christie this morning. She said she is almost ready to mail her package and I sent her my address. I hadn't heard from her for a while, so I was relieved!

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Aimee and I have been e-mailing each other. Her boss is making her work. The nerve!

My new flower bed was finished yesterday morning just as it started to rain. Now when it drys up I'll have a place for even more flowers. My DH hauled seven baby truck loads of ruble out of this small area. There was a lot of hard work involved making this bed so I should really appreciate it.

I last heard from Kyna, Peony3, a week or so ago. I sent her a brief e-mail 3-4 days ago and haven't had a response yet. I think she's been really busy with spring garden chores, including an ambitious-sounding vegetable garden.

I've decided on what send her in return, but I'm following the rules!

When I hear from her, I'll be sure that she/I post an update!

I hope everyone is having a great Monday!

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Tracy and Hazelnut, I thought that I should let you both know that the hands that have been gracing your gardens are actually to hold your rings when your not wearing them, did you two know this?

Tracy, the plant is called anacycluc depressus "garden gnome" it's a full sun perennial white with red daisy like flowers, great in beds or rock gardens according to the label. I got 2 at Home Depot for 3.50 each.

We have yet another issue in our gardener of the month round robin!our April gardener still has not received a package from one of the participants. This is just crazy, why sign up if you can't follow thru? Is this a common thing?

Did everyone have a nice Mothers day? I stayed home in the yard for most of the day. We took a ride to a couple of nurseries and yes, I bought more plants! I have a huge area that hubby cut out for me to fill and the winter sown things just look too small.I'm putting them in a holding area for now.If they all grow the way the pros say, I'll fill the road the whole way down, which is about 200 feet long next year.

I'm off to surf the posts, Have a great night!

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Lisa, I just looked up Garden Gnome and it is such a cute plant! I will have to stop in at HD to see if they have any here. The rock garden is full sun and that is where I have the little gnomes hanging out. Perfecto!

I am cracking up at the "real" purpose of the hand! Nope, not a clue. Give me hand and I will plant it! LOL!

I don't know what the deal is lately but there has been a certain increase in non-senders recently. This certainly isn't the norm. My only advice is to look up the rate and review for any new members to see if they have a good history. It is all about trust, it really hurts when someone breaks it.

I am glad you had a nice Mother's Day. That is my idea of how to spend it. I can't wait to see your gardens after you get them all planted out. Maybe plant them a little closer than recommended until they mature and fill in. You can always move them out when they mature or divide them later.

We had a very nice day here. The kids cooked breakfast with my hubby for my Mom and I and we all sat around the table talking and laughing for a few hours. Then we went to hubby's Mom's house and visited with them. It was nice and relaxing.

Have a great night!

Tracy

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Okay, if the HAND is for rings....what is the FOOT for?? :O)
I had wondered when I saw it up close, it certainly looked like it *could* be to put rings on....BUT it does look so much better in the garden, I think. :O)
I've had several comments on it already, all of them along the lines of "Wow, that's cute!"
Oh well....creative garden art.....can't get better than that!! :O)

I've run into alot of people neglecting personal trades lately. I didn't use to have a problem, I'd send my end & receive theirs at the same time. But I'm up to 3 trades so far that I haven't received my end from....and all from experienced traders. It's sad that not everyone can be counted on to honor their obligations. BUT it's also great to know that for every bad trader, there are dozens of good ones. :O)

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Good Evening,

Sorry I have not chimed in lately. I travel often and when I am home it seems as though I am bombarded with chores, errands, and gardening :)

I hope every one had a great mothers day. I am not a mother myself but I enjoyed spending the day with my favorite lady in the world- my grandmother. We met at my cousins house for brunch and I enjoyed it! All the girl cousins were there and we finally got a chance to gather together to discuss one of my cousins who is getting married in August, her bridal shower. Every one was really creative with shower ideas because my cousin does not want to play games. Each bridesmaid and the maid and matron of honor are making baskets with a different theme. You win the baskets with tickets that are given out during the shower, but with no games, I was wondering how tickets were going to given out. But they have some cool ideas. The dresses are in I should now be dieting and exercising. I need a personal trainer that will call and harass me, yell at me, or something to get my behind motivated.

I sent out Becky's package this afternoon. I used lots of bubble wrap and packing peanuts so I am crossing fingers that everything arrives safely. I am anxious to hear that it has.

My son has a surgery scheduled tomorrow, so depending on how it goes it'll either go in the mail Tues afternoon or Wed morning for sure. Everyone pls keep him in your thoughts.

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Good morning all!

I get to start my cut flower bed today - hubby brought home the timbers for the bed yesterday. I'll go get soil and start transplanting and direct sowing some things later today hopefully- can't wait!

Bunny - hope you are starting to feel a little better?? The foot must be for toe rings and ankle bracelets! LOL

Wendy - hope all goes well with your son's surgery - let us know.

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Yay, Christie, I am really looking forward to getting your box! I know what you mean about being busy. I still have wintersown babies outside waiting patiently to be planted in the yard. Hmm, I wonder how they would like to travel in a box . . . probably not.

I had a great Mother's Day. I have 4 kids and 2 stepkids and heard from almost everyone. My oldest daughters got married last September, and another daughter loves to scrapbook, so they got together (long distance) and put together a wedding album for me. My stepdaughter called me and we had a fun conversation, catching her up on the activies of her step-siblings. My son got me a beautiful planter with a little rose bush and a new campanula that I don't have. My other daughter called and will be coming for dinner tonight. The only one I didn't hear from was my stepson, but he is 30 and lives in Hawaii, and I don't think he really considers me to be his "mom" or "mom surrogate." He has invited us to come out for a visit, though, so if we can figure out a way to do that, it would be really great.

Will let everyone know when Christie's box arrives!

Becky

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Em~ You'll have to post some pictures of your flower bed when you get it finished! It sounds like you're going to be working pretty hard at it for the next little bit...I'm sure it'll be worth it though, and oh so pretty! :O)

I'm feeling a bit better, thanks for asking! I've found that taking vitamin B-6 helps quite a bit, but I did have a few bad days last week where nothing would stay down, and I got so faint that I would black out for a bit. Thankfully, that's over, I'm just nauseous now. Nothing horrible, but I still can't eat very much at a time. Whew, I'll be glad when this stage is over, though. I've never had it this bad before!! UGH! :O)

Becky~ I'm glad you had such a great Mother's day! It sounds like you've got some great kids, you are very blessed indeed. :O)

Wendy~ I can't wait to see what you've got planned for Ms Sassy! I'm sure it'll be great! :O)
Sending lots of prayers & hugs to your little one. I hope everything goes smoothly this morning. Please let us know how everything goes.

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Hello! I too had a great Mother's Day and hope everyone here did also!
Just wanted to let Em know that I am behind. I think when it rains it pours! The days I could have dug your plants when not working, it poured and stormed. Since then I have messed up a knee really bad and can't get down to dig. And did biopsies this morning on a breast so can't pull, strain, or anything for a few more days! I am so terribly sorry!! But I have lots of goodies for you, just be a while more!! I haven't forgotten you and will definitely send!!
Thanks, Melinda

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Well, I had a wonderful Mother's Day. I would honestly have to say it's the best I've ever had. It started on Saturday with Cliff coming home from work and calling me into the bedroom. No, you naughty minded women, not for that! :P There was an really wonderful card for me on the pillows. I cried reading it, it was so beautiful!

Then the kids got me a new top that is really beautiful! And a dozen roses and a really wonderful card!

I made homemade biscuits and sausage gravy for brunch, cause I'm the only one in the house that can manage homemade biscuits from scratch and homemade cream gravy. And it was what I wanted for brunch!

Later in the day, after the kids called their Stepmother and their father's mother and my mother, we went over to Cliff's brother and sister in law's cause everyone was meeting there , both her family and his, so they didn't have to try to schlepp around the two toddlers (they are sooooo adorable!) they're adopting. We had a wonderful dinner, enjoyed the company of not only them and the boys and Cliff's Mom and stepfather, but Farah's family as well. I'd met her mother already, but not her brothers. Cliff's Mom (my mother in Law in 11 days!! Yay!) had a really lovely hanging pot for me for Mother's Day filled with Impatiens, and some little blue vining flower that neither of us know what is, but we think it's adorable! and she went and got me a Lakeside Kaleidoscope Hosta after I'd admired her's :) She's such a wonderful Mother in Law!!!

After that we came home and snuggled and watched tv til bedtime :)

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Bunny, please don't feel hard at me but I emailed Wendy/Sassy and asked her if she has'nt maileed to please wait until the end of this week. I'll be leaving on Thursday so I don't won't it just sitting all weekend.

I wanted to let you know this is my request.
Sassy

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Kathy - sounds like a wonderful day!

Melinda - must important thing right now is getting you well. Take care of you and do not worry about this! OK?? Glad you had a good Mother's Day :)

bunny - I couldn't get started after all - he only brought some of the 4x's home - have to wait until he drives again on Thursday to bring the rest home. Oh well, it will give me something to do this weekend.

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

That's fine, Sassy....thank you for letting me know.
With the nature of this swap, it's mainly between the newbie & gwe when to send. I simply tried to provide guidelines so that everyone was on the same page. :O)

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Miss Pixie's confirmation number is 0307 1790 0000 5116 5478.

I do hope she likes it! Can't wait for it to get there. I had so much fun with that box ... I just finally had to quit and stick it in the mail, though :)

It's beautiful here today. 70 degrees and sunny with barely a breeze. My lilacs are blooming, and they smell wonder. DH bought me a pool for my b-day, which isn't for another few weeks. It's 18 feet across and 4 feet deep. I planned all my gardening around it. Turns out where we wanted to put it wouldn't work, so it ended up directly in the middle of our yard. Um-hm. I hadn't planned for a massive blue blob in front of my flowers. On the upside, we'll have a great view from in the pool, LOL!

Was hoping to go play with my horse this afternoon and then come back to mess in the yard, but I'm stuck working.

Hope everyone is having a nice day!

Allison

Awesome that you got the package today. I was wondering when it would arrive, I forgot to ask the lady when I was at the post office. I got there right on the dot at 6pm, as they were closing yesterday.

Hope you like everything, and like the scents of the lotions and can use them. Also I tried to stay with the color blue while I was making the pots, since you told me you like the color.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I called Jason into the office when I opened the picture... saying look look nothing broke. He helped me wrap everything last minute in the parking lot of the post office lol.

Hey girls, just wanted to say.......I hope you all have a great weekend. Wendy I don't know if you received my email but I'll be sending next week. I wouldn't have been concerned if it wasn't sending plants, which I would like to include. I don't like knowing plants are sitting in boxes somewhere:(

Bunny...I appreciate that, but since you were hosting, I thought it just a curtosity to let you know on the boards.

Hope you girls have a nice weekend. This will probably be the last time I get to post before leaving. Have a good one!

I am planning to get Christie's box in the mail on Monday. Problem is, I will be at a conference starting Sunday night, so I will have my husband mail it. I won't be able to post until Tuesday evening but will be sure he gets delivery confirmation and ships priority. He is very good at following directions as long as I write them down (absent minded professor, LOL).

Okay, Christie and I have agreed that I will ship on Wednesday morning, since she is going to be out of town for the week. I will post the delivery confirmation next Wednesday. I am going to have to find a big box for all of Christie's plants, LOL.

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Everyone is so quiet lately!!!

How was everyones weekend? It was crappy here in Pittsburgh, rainy all weekend! Although I managed to get 4,000 pounds of topsoil scattered around the house. It took 2 truckloads of going to Lowes with 50 bags of 40 pounds of topsoil in each bag. Jason had to work the whole weekend, so I am proud that I did it all by myself. At first I thought that 50 bags was going to be more than enough, then realized that it did not even cover half of what I wanted to do. I still need more.

I planted out some raspberry plants that I was able to purchase off of someone on craigslist. When I was there, he was downsizing on his black eyed susans, and must of gave me 50 mature plants for nothing. He was just going to put them in the trash, and I said no way!!

Most of my late wintersown babies are ready to be planted, or at least I think so for this is my first year at that. But I will have to wait until next weekend to do that because I will be out of town until then :( Hope they are ok while I am gone. Jason does a pretty good job with watering :)

Anyways, hope everyone had a great weekend and was not washed away with all the rain.

Oh, yeah is there going to be another round of this?

Christie

It's been a very busy weekend here. Hubby had a birthday, so we sent him & the boys off camping for 2 days. First Sunday he's had off in months, so he needed a little time away. :O)
The girls and I stayed home and had a girl night. We baked brownies, ate Ben & Jerry's ice cream, had pizza, watched movies, painted our nails, and I sewed each of them a new dress (Aubeni wanted to make Daddy a "birthday dress", but I finally convinced her that daddy wouldn't look so great in a dress, so maybe SHE could have one instead! LOL)
Then, we painted some flower pots & went shopping at Lowes for some flowers to put in them (Aubeni wanted RAINBOW flowers to match her rainbow pot, so we got striped zinnias).

And next weekend, we are planning a "Goodwill/Thrift store/Yard sale" shopping trip....since I've outgrown all my clothes & am running around in hubby's shorts & sweats. Very attractive & fashionable, if I do say so myself! :O) I haven't gained any weight so far, but somehow still manage to have a belly. Go Figure! LOL

I hope everyone has a great week!

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Kathy - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You put together one FANTASIC box and with all you have to do right now ~ WOW!

Brag time :) - Kathy sent me the following goodies :

An adorable little 'Garfield' garden shovel ~ this is a great addition to the other 'young' gardener items that I keep on hand for little visitors.
Pruning shears
Really cute little burgandy canvas garden bag
Pkg. of Gardenia fragrance for sachets
Garden sign on a stake
'Udder' hand cream
Freesia Body Butter - Smells DEVINE!
2 of the CUTEST Gnome plant stakes I have ever seen!
A very neat magnetic vase - I need to find just the right little plant for this - I think an air plant would be just perfect!
10 pkgs of flower seeds
3 paper white bulbs
5 different named baggies of Tulips

Like I said this was a great box and so nice to come home to! THanks again Kathy! Oh and in case you haven't counted yet today - only 5 more days until your married! LOL I am sending out you package tomorrow - I will get the conformation # when it goes.

My daughter is in Washington DC this week - 66 - 8th grade students from our county left at 2:00AM this morning! They landed safely and have started their site seeing - they even get to have lunch with VP Cheney - ya, it helps that we are from Wyoming LOL

I planted, watered and weeded most of the weekend (sun burned to prove it!) - and have lots more to do before the long weekend. I am having a BBQ and am trying to get everything beautified for it.

Marie

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Marie, I'm glad you liked the box! I was so nervous over it! I can't wait til I get yours! Getting actual plants that I don't have to wait for is always good! :)

Four more days now, so for the most part I'm gonna be MIA. I'm doing the cakes and grilling the chicken and making potato salad. Then there's the decorating and stuff. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us, they're calling for a 30% chance of rain on Saturday :( We're gonna have the hay bales out, and that would mean soggy seating. And I'm really praying for no rain during the ceremony! My almost mother in law's house is big, but there's gonna be 70+ people! Oddly enough, I'm still not suffering any bridal nerves and Cliff isn't either. We're both just really looking forward to the day. Again, odd, because we consider ourselves already married :) So, I still have the food to cook in the next couple days, a couple of last minute things to purchase- like my 10 yr old's cowboy boots, for some reason I'm having a hard time finding a size 5 boy's boot! I'm holding off on doing much gardening this week. Don't want my hands all battered and dry before the pictures! It's difficult, but I can still enjoy watering and watching my cannas growing and my Peruvian Daffs getting ready to bloom! They will actually be the first blooms that I planted and had to wait for. All of my other blooms were bought for a quick start. It's almost amusing, but for some reason most of the seeds I've planted are second year bloomers. But I'm gonna put some more dwarf marigolds in and that should give me more color. And I've got several things in seedling trays. Just waiting for them to get just a little bigger before I set them out ( as well as waiting til after the honeymoon!) Our honeymoon is gonna be at home. We're planning to hopefully take a camping and fishing trip towards the end of the summer with the two boys. And hopefully next year we'll get to take that trip to Ochos Rios, Jamaica for a week for our first anniversary :)

LOL, I'm rambling again. No nerves, but I'm really getting excited!

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Kathy, sounds like you're handling everything well. I forgot it was this coming weekend and I just shipped your box today with your Pink Grace.

Wendy!! I got my box!!!! Oh girl, I just love everything! My goodness, I don't know what I love the most, did you make the birdfeeder? Its just beautiful! In fact its so pretty I decided to take a pic of everything so everyone can see.
Photobucket

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for everything! I really needed some note pads and the gloves, though they're so pretty I hate to use them, lol.
Like I said, I just love it all:))

Oh and btw, your box shipped UPS today too. I hope I included things you'll enjoy for along time. I'll try to post the dc# tommorrow, my SIL forgot to email them to me before she left work early. But its on the way!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom sweetie, please know we're ALL here for you anytime you need us. You feel free to email me anytime you need to talk. Hugs:))

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Yippee, Kathy! I can't wait to see pictures. How exciting.

Hope everyone had a nice day. I spent most of my weeding ... I hate weeds!

I think I have a problem ... a craigslist problem, that is, LOL! I got so many plants last weekend. This gal was thinning her yard. I picked up some garden phlox and purple coneflowers last week. Then I decided I needed a few more ... so I get more phlox, shasta daisies, lambs ear, chocolate mint, and basil. The lady has a bunch of other stuff she just listed ... I'm resisting the urge to go get more. It was $2 per clump, and each clump was in a gallon milk jug and the jug was full ... so big clumps.

I do not need more plants, I do not need more plants, I do not need more plants!!! (yes, i do! hee-hee)

Hope everyone has a great night.

Allison

Woo Hoo! I wonder if they will deliver it to my door, because I am sure that it is too big for the mailbox!! And I have class on Saturday until 5:30 pm, so I hope they will. I guess I could have Jason pick it up for me on Sat, I wonder if they allow others to pick up boxes for you? Anyone know?

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

I'm so glad you liked it all Sassy! I enjoyed painting it up for you :) I've found too that those lil notepads are a wonderful accessory to jot a note down on to pop into a trade envelope! :)

Thanks to all for your thoughts & prayers for my mom.. We've gotta rough road ahead for sure, I'm glad I've found gardening as a way to vent and calm myself :)

Hugs all,

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Christie, they will leave it by your door. I get stuff delivered from UPS all the time and they don't care if you are there or not. It is coming from the library where I work as that was easier than taking it to the post office.

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Thanks, Sassy and Marie! I'm so excited about getting the daylily and Marie's box! Things are getting hectic here, we've got two days to go til the big day!!

Everyone keep your fingers crossed and say some prayers for us, the forecast is calling for wind and a 30% chance of rain. We could move it indoors, but even in my almost MIL's huge house, it would still be very crowded. Not to mention we wouldn't get the pictures we want. Cliff's cracking up at me. Normally I WANT rain so I don't have to water. And a little wind is usually a good thing because it blows any bugs off of my flowers and veggies and keeps mosquitoes and flies from invading us too badly.

I'll try to checking in a bit the next few days, but it's really getting hectic. Just want to say that I love you guy and that I'll be around more next week.. well... maybe. Cliff gets this really mischievous look and won't tell me where we're going after the reception. He won't even tell me what I should pack!

Kathy

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Kathy, maybe he's planning on you NOT wearing anything! *wink* lol.

Thanks so much, Kyna! I'll wait until Monday to ship your plants so they aren't sitting in the post office longer than necessary. Pat

Sassy! My daylilies arrived this morning! Girls, let me tell you something, this woman is WONDERFUL! She not only sent me the Pink Grace that I won guessing her precious granddaughter's name, but She also sent me a Pink Cotton Candy fan and a fan of Crystal Pinot! These daylilies are GORGEOUS! I can't wait to see them bloom! Thank you SO much, Sassy! You have such a generous heart and I am thankful from the bottom of mine!

I'm breaking my promise to not do any gardening until after the wedding tomorrow to keep from messing up my hands for the pictures, but my daughter and I are gonna go out and plant these right now since we're overcast and they'll have a chance to recover. They arrived in fantastic shape, BTW!

THANK YOU SASSY!

Kathy

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Wendy, I'm so glad you liked everything dear. That daylily marked Skoler, the name of it is Golden Scroll, you can see a pic of it on my trade list. Its really beautiful and has a huge bloom. The small bunch you didn't know what it was is a type of sedum, slow growing, can take full sun or shade. Mines in full sun and does fine. The peppers are just ornmental, but make such a pretty bush covered in peppers. I thought with what you have going on in your life right now you needed an angel to watch over you and your Mom. Hugs sweetie. I had soooo much fun packing your box and I really meant to send you more daylilies than that, lol, I was up till midnight packing 4 boxes I needed to get out, so I was alittle 'rattled' lol. Oh, the groundcover is Ajuga.

Enjoy!

Sassy

 o
Kathy

Girl please! You make someone else plant those for you! You're very sweet, I hope you enjoy them for many years with your hubby!

We want to see pics of the wedding when you have a chance!

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY! COME AGAIN AFTER MEMORIAL DAY!

Good luck sweetie!

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Sassy ~ oh! That groundcover is Ajuga? I have some in my yard but mine is burgundy leaved w/ blue flowers! Great, I'll plant them up together, I bet that'll look lovely!

and you KNOW I wouldn't complain about more daylilies.. LOL jk :P

You're right about that angel! We need all the blessings we can get right now.. Mom wants to go to the beach for 'a last hurrah' as she put it. We're just praying her strength will keep up til July.

Thankyou again Sassy :)

Hugs to everyone!

Wendy....I was googling and found this pic. It has the sedum and the ajuga together, I think it looks nice, I'd change the color of the gazing ball but the plants look nice together.

First I want to apologize for being MIA so long!! And to still let Em know that I haven't forgotten her. Will be mailing Tuesday am. Started to do it today and remembered the long weekend. I have them all picked just have to dig. Got the labels ready and all! I think she will like the plants I choose for her! I hope so anyway!! I do apologize for being so late in sending, but having a terrible time with my knee still! May have to go to the orthopedic surgeon next week. It sure has put a damper on things for the last few weeks!!
Everyone have a wonderful and safe holiday! Em, I promise it is coming!! Melinda

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Melinda, I'll vouch for you anytime girl, no worries! I hope your knee problems are resolved with medication. I feel for you dear! I have really bad knee's, got it honest, Mom and Grandmom, I didn't stand a chance. Wishing you the best hun.

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Melinda sweetie - I told you before - I am not worried - it is far more important that you deal with your health issues. I really don't want you worrying about this. I have heard nothing but good things about you and I know that when you can, you will share some of your wonderful plants with me. And even if something happened that you couldn't, I wouldn't be upset. I'm just not that way. So get better, take your time, I am sure that with your problems with your knee you shouldn't be digging! And I will absolutely LOVE anything you send - well not if its poison ivy LOL

I know I have hardly been here myself. We are in the midst of remodeling and I am trying to work on my new gardens as much as possible. We are having a very large family gathering here for Father's Day so that has kinda pushed things to a head. Altho I did find time yesterday to visit a nursery that is going out of business lol She has posted on craigslist and had great prices. I picked up 5 gingers, 2 brugs, 2 pandora vines, 3 red and purple bleeding hearts, some cereus, a variegated hydrangea and a couple of other things that escape me this early for $24.00! I felt like a kid in the candy store lol
Wendy - I have been keeping your mom in my prayers and hope that the beach trip becomes a reality for ya'll. Awesome box!!

Sassyd - what a great box you sent Wendy - I can read her smiles :)

Pat and Kyna - what a beautiful butterfly! That is going to be such a wonderful addition to Pat's garden.

Bunny where are you hiding?? I hope you are starting to feel even just a wee bit better?

Pixie hope all is well. Has Mud gotten into anymore trouble lately?? LOL

OMGoodness - KATHY - TODAY"S THE DAY - HAPPY WEDDING DAY! i just know everything is going to be wonderful - Congratulations!!!

Ok I will have to catch up some more later - Hugs all around!

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Hello,

It was a very nice day here in Pittsburgh so I am only hoping that Kathy had the same sunny day for for her wedding!

I came home late last night to a box on my porch :)
I was so excited. I must have been calling Jason every hour asking if the box arrived before he went to work at 5pm and it had not come yet so I was thinking that it was going to be delivered on Saturday. But none the less it was here!!

Thank you so much Becky! I have a new flower bed that I am going to post pictures of prior to me planting everything. I had class today, so could not get them in the ground. But they all still look great and have upright standing leaves. The particular flower bed is in the front of my house, immediately surrounding the house, so I am figuring that it gets some shade and some sun. I just do not know how to determine, the direction and what times it receives sun. I have not got that down pat yet. So before I plant all the wonderful plants that you sent me Becky, I have to make sure they will be ok in this bed or they will have to go elsewhere :)

Becky sent me:
Several different types of Lilies, maybe like 10 plants or so of just lilies!!!
Sedum Autumn Joy
Ice Plant
Lupines
Buddlela
Columbines
Heuchera
Painters Paletle
Mexican Hats
Caryopteris
Dogwood Seedlings
Salvias
Lyrata
Nutans
Transylvanira
Regelians

I am not sure if I spelled everything correctly. But I am off to google pictures and spacing information for them all. Also going to print out pictures and try to make a garden organizer/picture book.

Thank you so much Becky! I appreciate all of your plants that you have shared with me!!!

Christie

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Christie:

Glad they all arrived in good condition. The plants you called lilies are actually bearded iris. Most of them are pretty tolerant and will do fine as long as they get sun part of the day. I can help you sort out what is what. I was trying to get them all in the box so I couldn't wrap each one individually. I still have some things that I want to send, so I will send another box later !!!

Becky

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Ok, here is the bed that I would like to put all the plants and flowers in.

Photobucket

And here is the front of the house and the hill that it sits on, so the sun would only be on the bed... I do not know how much of the day? lol

Photobucket

Do you think it would be ok to put all of them in this bed?

Christie

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Christie:

Sorry, I signed off right after posting and have been busy today. Everything I sent you is very tolerant. None will tolerate deep shade (like in the middle of the woods) but all will tolerate some shade. Everything I sent is perennial. If they don't bloom, or don't take off, you can move them next year.

Becky

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

First off, I want to apologize for not being on more! And secondly, for not sending my box to Em until now. I haven't had a good spring. Ripped the tendons and cartilage in my knee and it has been a nightmare. No yard work, no planting, etc. Still have to have a brace until the 16th of July and then we'll see if I need to do more to help it or not. It has been no fun!
Anyway, I got my grandson to help dig some things and my box is on it's way to Em. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and lateness of my box! It was a terrible thing to do to a newbie, but couldn't do it without help.I hope you understand.
The dc # is 0306 3030 0002 2499 9893. I found a couple of the labels after I packaged and so when you receive just holler and I'll tell you want their names are.
Em, I loved my box and again so very sorry so late in sending! Melinda

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Melinda - thank you so much for worrying about my box and getting it out to me. I hope the brace helps heal your knee so that you won't need further care for it. I can only imagine the frustration you must feel not being able to garden.

I totally understood and wish you wouldn't have worried about it - you have enough to deal with but I am excited to know its on its way. Will post when I receive it. Thanks again

 o
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie: Part 3

Wooohoooo - Received my great BIG box from Melinda and am sooo excited! She sent me:

Perilla
Abstract Art DL
Golden Gift DL
Bayport DL
Rose Vervain
Birchwood Parky's Gold Hosta
Queen Josephine Hosta
Hermann's Pride Lamium
Deptford Pinks
and two NOIDS that Melinda needs to ID for me - one of them is huge! looks like a small shrub!

Everything was packaged so carefully and arrived healthy and happy looking.

Melinda - again - you really didn't need to worry with this with all you have going on! I truly appreciate the fact that you had your grandson dig these up and sent them to me despite your problems. You are a sweetheart! Thank you - Thank you!! When you get a chance please get in touch about the NOIDS so I know how to care for them.

Off I go to look these up and figure out where to plant them.

Hugs!! Em

I built 3 rasied beds, 24'x6'x2' deep, one for blueberries(acid),lingonberries(acid), strawberries, rhubarb, garlic, other perennial small fruit/vegi. The other two beds are for the vegi garden, plus I plan on making a couple of potato planters, and a couple of container tomatoes and peppers for potential overwintering.

This will be my 3rd growing season in my first home. the first two I worked on the perennial fruit garden/orchard.

These vegis are 100x worse than the fruits, too many options, how can one pick, especially when they all say they are the best?

I know I want:
Tomatoes (sauce, paste, salsa, fresh, cherry, weird colors[that taste good], I would like both hybrid and heirloom for comparison)
Peppers (bells, sweets, hot [no hobanero or hotter])
Sweet Potatoes
Okra
Potatoes
Carrots (some super sweet for raw)
Beets
Summer Squash/Zuccinni
Winter Squash (not too wet, prefer drier)
Green Beans
Sweet Corn
Popcorn
Turnips
Edimame* (especially fond of)
Melons (sweet, any)
Basil (pesto)
Any other vegi you think I should grow.

I would be happy with direction, but truely grateful if someone would adopt me.
