Alana, Congratulations, another point!
I'll update the word list and pick 2 new letters in the morning. I also want to list who has sent -- and now that we are on a new heading, it will take a bit more back and forth.
I hope everyone had a good day!

Annie,
It looks the box you sent went to different address. The tracking says the address or zip code on the label is incorrect. I am little concerned about it but let's see what happens, hope it will get here.

Sorry, everyone. I typed this last night and then couldn't find where I saved it on my computer. (Do you have days like that?)
Erica's guesses are correct. Congratulations! Another point for Erica and I'll add 2 more words to the list in a little while.
Today is International Picnic Day so my husband and I are going to have a picnic. Have to get the food ready!

Word Game

Today I drew the letters "s" and "p"

_ _ _ _ i p (6) Posted on 2nd list
_ _ _ i p _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (12) Posted on 6/16 (2nd list)
s _ i p p _ _ s (8) Posted on 6/18
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ s _ i p _ _ (13) Posted on 6/18

More words later today...

Jasmine, was your address or zip code incorrect in the list that I sent out? Please check and let me know by e-mail if it's wrong. I believe I copied right off of the e-mail you sent to me. Hopefully it's just something silly with the post office. We sent for years to my mother-in-law addressing to a certain town then at one point the post office decided for post office purposes that was a different town. (??)

I took daylily pictures this morning. They are so beautiful. I also picked my first tomatoes this week and discovered a tomato hornworn on one of the plants this morning. I'll have to watch those plants really well now - the leaves disapper in no time the way those hornworms can eat.

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

My box from Jasmine arrived and WOW! It was like the hat with the magic rabbits. Once I opened it things just kept tumbling out. there were 12 different things..... not counting the sedums that were wrapped separately.
Anabelle Hydrangea
A rose , deep pink
Viburnum
African Violet, light purple/pink
REX Begonia, rooted and growing
Coleus, very dark purple color, rooted
Gloriosa daisy with roots (yeah!)
star sedum
curly willow
Apple mint
ribbon grass
Aster Alma Potsche
Several of these are from my wish list so I am one happy gardener though I feel challenged about getting them growing and through the summer Some should be easy, some more challenging.
IF I could wish for a magic potion to guarantee the survival of just one.... it would be ........ The curly willow. I have wanted this for years and this is the cutest little thing. Just love it.
AND not to forget about the sedums. It looks like about 6 or 7 different ones. I need to figure out which ones can survive the winter here. For now, I'm putting them all into a big flat pot so I can bring the whole thing inside this winter.
Jasmine I'm sending a great big THANK YOU out your way. What a super duper package you put together If I could keep it all alive, it could be a whole little garden right there in one box ( i'm not telling the size of the box though, LOL) Crossing my fingers

I received my box from Erica today.
Thank you Erica. All seemed to be in good shape.
You did a fantastic job with the packing.
Now my job starts with trying to root them.
I dipped them again in root starter and into the soil they went. They are in my humid sun room and will get spritzed several times a day. Fingers crossed!

Several had roots and so I'm happy about that.
Here is what she sent me .... everything I asked for from her list +1. smiles here.

•Lemon Balm (z4)
• Oregano, Za'atar
• Sage, Pineapple (rooted or cutting)
• Sweet Woodruff (rooted
Tarragon, French
• Thyme, English
• Thyme, Lemon
• Thyme, Orange Basalm
•Dianthus picotee
•Carnation, Fuchsia Picotee

I received Sharon's (gmom2-6boys) package today. It was fantastic!

Sharon (toomanyanimals), I'm so glad that my package arrived for you on time and that everything was in order. I hope it all turns out great.

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Beth, I am so delighted to hear that the package arrived for you and you liked it. Most of the hens n chicks (succulents) are not hardy so they must come indoors for winter. I have kept them on window sill during winter and they all did well. One is Sempervivum (smallest chicks and the leaf which is very light green in color). It will do good outdoors in zone 5 or in unheated room.

Hope the cuttings root for you.

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Wonderful packages. I'm so glad to see the happy posts!

I've decided to give Alana the point. I suspect her fingers hit the wrong letter as she typed and she intended the answer in the second entry.
1 Point for Alana!Now she has 3.

Erica gets a point as well because I had left the question about Alana's guess "up in the air" so Erica has 2 points.

The words guessed were: turnip, snippers, and countersniper.

List is now:

_ _ _ i p _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (12) Posted on 6/16 (2nd list)
_ i _ i p _ _ _ s (9) Posted on 6/18
_ _ i p _ d s (7) Posted on 6/18

I'll add 3 more a bit later in the day. My Master Gardener group meets today and it's time to get ready. I'll tell you a bit about it when I post later. We are going to hear about Cambodia. We've had a series about gardening in other countries lately: the beautiful gardens in France, Darwin House in England, and now this one. I love travel and gardens so it's fantastic. Covered dish as well today so quite the event!

Jasmine,

Oh my...I get the email updates from the PO.....Elk Grove Village to Niles and now back to ElK Grove Village.......I just don't get the PO. After you emailed me your address, I immediatley wrote it on the Priority label...so I am sure I had it correct.

This morning they say it should be delivered today....we will see!!!! Lots of shredded paper in your box....be careful not to miss anything!

I am out of town, so will check in when I get a chance.

Nice snip n shares are arriving.....love the variation!!

Happy Thursday!!

Annie

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

It's so fun to read all the posts and hear what people received and how happy they are. Pineapple sage looks and sounds so wonderful...just not hardy in my zone.
Jeanne, I'm a Scrabble player. It's really hard to leave the letters where you have them. I want to take the last one and make it into aphids, but that doesn't make any sense! Wrong game!
My coneflowers are budding. I've dreamed of an Echinacea Bed for quite some time. I bought 2 on clearance and it was hard to find a good spot for them. People told me I'd run out of room for my flowers, but I never believed them. They were right!

Your box arrived just now. I am so glad it did make it here. I will post later contents of it.

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

I took lots of flower pictures yesterday morning so here is one for you.

I have to start out by saying that my box from Alana arrived today and it's fantastic! Alana, you packed and labeled everything beautifully. The plants still look fresh and happy and I didn't anticipate that - not because of you at all - because of our very hot weather right now.

I received:
Climbing Hydrangea (something I wanted for a long time)
Hydrangea 'Annabelle'
White Lady Banks Rose
Salvia Heatwave Blast (rooted - and yes, our weather right now is a heat wave blast)
Iachroma 'Royal Queen' (just looked this one up - lovely!)
Coleus: Religious Radish, Tilt-A-Whirl, Green Autry, Burgundy Wagon Train (love the names!)
Ipomeas Sidekick Black Heart (dark leaf sweet potato vine)

Here's an update on the swaps:

Word Game

Today I drew the letter "e" and "c". I will stop posting words after Saturday morning. I think as I keep drawing letters, so much of the words will be filled in that it will take the fun out of it ... plus the problem of finding more "nip" words that aren't really odd.

_ e _ i p _ _ c _ _ _ e (12)
_ i _ i p _ _ _ _ (9)
_ _ i p _ d s (7)
_ _ _ i p _ _ _ _ i _ e (12)
s _ i p p i _ e s s (10)

I'll have a game for next week that will relate to Independence Day. Since we're not having a swap in July I thought we should do a little something in preparation for that. Hooray! A 3-game month!

Heidi, wouldn't it be fun if we could play Scrabble with the word games. I love Scrabble, too.

Well, most of my cutting are in water right now so time to do some dusting with rooting hormone and cinnamon and get them potted up!

Thanks again, Alana.

Oh and an update on the Master Gardener meeting. Something came up and I didn't make it. A bit disappointing. I'm sure it would have been a good talk.

I'm so glad they made it in good shape Jeanne.
Today I'll try
venipuncture
manipulative

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

I got the package from Annie,
Wow I am so thrilled to see so many varieties of succulents. There were 16 types of succulents including trailing ones,
more than 5 types of Aeoniums,
2 big clumps of baby's tears,
3-4 daylillies (Yellow ruffled type and others),
2 pks of Candies, 5 pk of seeds.
Simply amazing.

I was looking for Baby's tears, Aeoniums and other succulents from long time and so thrilled to see them all in one package.

I was not expecting that many succulents. I am clearly thrilled. My previous collection of succulents were nothing before what I got now.

I can't explain everything in words so here are some of the pictures which gives good idea that how much goodies I got.

Annie, thank you so much for the variety of plants you sent. You can't imagine how happy I am. It's like hitting the jackpot. I am so happy. I have planted most of them in temporary pots and will move them later in bigger ones. will plant Baby tears tomorrow and take some pics.

I found out that Address and zipcode was correct on the package.

Jeannie, thank you so much for wonderful swap. I am so glad that I joined the swap and enjoyed it so much. Looking forward for another swap like this next year.

Thanks
Jasmine

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

That's a great swap package that you received, Jasmine. Yes, hopefully we can swap cuttings again next year. I'm a bit partial to cutting swaps myself. Keep watching for our swaps tough. We come up with some interesting ones!

Alana, you have another point. Good guessing!
These 2 words are now off the list:
venipuncture
manipulative

I'll add 2 more words and pick letters tomorrow. It may be in the afternoon. I have 2 doctor's appointments - morning and then around noon.

Have a good evening!
Jeanne

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

I have received my box from Heidi and have everything in cinn. and water. I hope everything takes because the place in the garden is all ready. Cuttings I received are:

Dragons Blood
Butterfly bush
Virginia creeper
Thanks Heidi!

Sorry to be so late getting online. I had an eye exam at noon and wasn't sure if they would dilate my eyes or not. They did so with our bright sun today I couldn't manage to do much. Finally took a long nap and I think that was a good use of my time. :-)

Word Game

Today I drew the letters "b" and "n". I will stop posting words after this. I think as I keep drawing letters, so much of the words will be filled in that it will take the fun out of it ... plus the problem of finding more "nip" words that aren't really odd. One word is already off the list for guessing because it is totally filled in.
Here's a chance to get more points!

_ i n i p _ _ _ s (9)
_ n i p _ d s (7)
s n i p p i n e s s (10) <- Completed, can't guess!
n i p c _ e e s e (9)
s n i p e _ s c _ p e (11)
_ n i p _ _ _ _ (8)
N i p p _ n (6)

I'll leave these open for guessing.... remember 2 at a time and both must be correct.

I'll start a 4th of July themed game over the weekend.

My cuttings are still looking great. I'm keeping an eye on them. High 90's here, but my cuttings are in the garage for now to keep them from getting much sun.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Jeanne,

I think you missed my guess on the 19th. I guessed "snippiness" and "venipuncture." You can scroll up to see both of those.

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

I will guess nipcheese and nippon.

I just got home and my cuttings from Beth arrived today. She sent generous amounts of each one, so I stand a good chance of rooting some of them. I have them soaking right now.
She sent
A beautiful Coleus called Black Magic
An unknown cutting from a plant that her family all enjoys. I look forward to finding out what it is.
Pink and white christmas cactus
Sedum Purple Emperor
Rosemary
Lilac James McFarlene
Thank you so much Beth! I will get to work on these right away.
Alana

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

My guesses for today are:
nipcheese
sniperscope

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Alana received her swap package today. I'll update the list tomrorow. She also has another point for guessing nipcheese and Nippon.

Erica, you can guess again any time after midnight! We had 2 postings close together once again.

Jeanne

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Anyone who wants to can continue to guess "nip" words from those that remain. I drew the letters Q and L today. There was one "L".

_ i n i p _ _ _ s (9)
_ n i p _ d s (7)
s n i p e _ s c _ p e (11)
_ n i p _ l _ _ (8)

Here is our final game for the month.
Red, White and Blue Bouquet

Get ready for July 4th! I have a book that lists flowers by color. Using that I'm gathering a pretend bouquet with red, white, and blue flowers. There will be 4 flowers of each color. They may not be things that bloom at the same time. I'm not being that careful in making the list. Also if the flower comes in more than one color, list which flower and which color - example "white lilacs"
You do not need to give a specific variety - just the common name.

For example if yellow was one of the colors I might list:
Yellow Sunflower
Yellow Gladiolus
Yellow Daylily
Yellow Golden Rod
That is as specific as you need to be.

Other hints: I'm trying to pick 12 flowers that most people would know about. Obviously the blue might be a blue-violet.You have only 1 guess - all 12 (the full bouquet) at one time. The person who gets the most matches with what I selected will be the winner. If it's a 2-way tie both will get a prize. If it's 3 or more tied, we will have a tie breaker.

Please post your guess by Thursday, June 26th. That way there will be time for a tie breaker before the end of the month if we need it.

So let the bouquets begin!
Jeanne

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

These guesses are pretty farfetched, but
miniparks
unipolar

 o
RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Those guesses are right, Alana. Another point for you.
(Yes, I did not find as many useful nip words as I had hoped.)

These 2 are left:
_ n i p _ d s (7)
s n i p e _ s c _ p e (11)

I'll add letters by picking 2 more tomorrow and will fill in more blanks if they are in the words.

My cuttings are still looking good. I had to s"nip" off 2 leaves that had dried, but the leaves are no big thing. The more important issue is for roots to form. (Let me give everyone a hint: do not keep pulling up the cutting to see if it has rooted. Give it plenty of time. You may even see some growth occur before the roots have formed. This was something I was terrible about when I first tried cuttings. I would pull them up every few days to check for roots. No, they don't like that!)

Suzanne, no worries. In fact, it's a gorgeous week. Our highs are 80-85 this week (lows near 60) and we've had more rain this past week than we had all last summer. I think our drought is over. This will be a much better week to mail--and who would have guessed it?! They are predicting people will need sweatshirts at the Fourth of July fireworks. Amazing!

toomanyanimals/Sharon, I just opened my box and couldn't be happier with what you sent. Thank you so much.
I've had white bleeding heart on my want list a long time and I'm so happy to finally have it.
And thank you for not sending a lot.
We're getting ready to go on vacation for about 12 days and I'm trying to get everything planted and potted before we leave and I still have a ways to go.
It's raining right now but I ran out and potted the clematis anyway.
I'll get the others planted in the morning.

all are rooted plants and 3 are from my want list,

Bleeding Heart white
Clematis Blue Multi
Fairy Rose
Rock & Roll Rose

No one has submitted a guess for the Red, White, and Blue Bouquet game yet. Here’s the information once again. The deadline was today, but I am going to change that to by noon (Eastern time) on Sat. so if anyone wants to guess, I would love to see your bouquet!

Obviously the blue might be a blue-violet.
You have only 1 guess - all 12 (the full bouquet) at one time. The person who gets the most matches with what I selected will be the winner. If it's a 2-way tie both will get a prize. If it's 3 or more tied, we will have a tie breaker.
Please post your guess by midday Saturday, June 28th. That way there will be time for a tie breaker before the end of the month if we need it.
So let the bouquets begin!
Jeanne

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

I am so happy! A box came in the mail today! I would be doing the Happy Plant Dance around the living room except then I'd be doing the thing I did all day yesterday when I had the flu.
Oh, I'm so happy. I've wanted a hibiscus for so long. I just can't seem to germinate one from seed. Suzanne sent me Luna Red, Red and Plum Crazy!
She also sent Crazy Daisy (rooted) and Broadway Light's Daisy (rooted), Alma P. Aster and Purple Butterfly Bush!
Everything that needs it has been 'hormoned' and all are getting a cool drink of water.
I'm so excited! Thank you!

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Jeanne, I notice you have Beth as having sent to me. I posted that I received a great box of what I discovered were mostly rooted cuttings from her last week. At least I thought I posted it.
Thanks, Alana

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Thanks for checking behind me, Alana.
We are close to closing out the swap. I think we'll be waiting to see how long it takes my package to reach Annie. (I walked around the garden earlier to plan what I would take cuttings of... deciding that can really slow me down...)
Have a good week, everyone!
Jeanne

Have a great month!

RE: UPDATE: june fotess snip & share swap (part 2)

Sorry I haven't posted for awhile. I typed a long message and lost it because AOL kicks me off midstream so I gave up for awhile.

Anyway, so glad you got your package and like it , Annie. The little gift inside is a belated birthday gift. I know I don't normally send one, but it was so close to your birthday. I have been so bad about not posting them as they come along. You will be getting a prize packet, too. All the prize packets are on their way and should arrive on Saturday.

Everyone has recieved their swap package now, so the June swap is drawing to a close. Thanks for participating and posting to keep things interesting. Happy 4th of July to everyone.

Yes, Annie, that package went much cheaper as a priority rather than a priority flat rate. So many rules with post office packages. It was good news to me and I'm so glad the package actually made it in time.

Jeanne,

I received my prize today. Thank you so much. The seeds are great. I love alyssum. Did you know that it's related to broccoli and it's edible! The bookmark is great. I can't believe you went to so much effort. And the M&Ms... Let's just say that my hubby says thanks! He spotted them through the bubble wrap and the rest is history.
