...we enact a rule that says, after a certain time, if the person who's "up" doesn't select a box, the next person in line (Pat, in this case, I believe) be allowed to make a new selection and move their current box to the individual who didn't select within the time frame (Karen, in this case). Not picking on Karen, but its a long time to wait otherwise, and somewhat unfair to those who want to play the game.

Of course, I do realize that I might be villanized by saying this, but I know I'm only one of several thinking along these lines, so I'll stick my neck out! :)

It would be virtual impossible to implent a rule in that manner because the game is based on WHO steals from whom.
As it stands at this point Karen either needs to steal a box to keep the game going OR grab the last unspoken for box.

Something could have happened and she is unable to get online at the moment. Things do come up, this type of game could actaully take all month to play out it depends on who comes in and checks to see if it is their turns and how often they come in unfortunately.

So this being said we wait....

and HOPE those who are actually playing will be able to drop in more often to check the status of the game so those of us who are impatient will be able to get satisfaction LOL.

Shirley are you still planning on starting your game at 1:00?

If you don't mind once there is a winner I would like to post a trivia type game, maybe that will get us going again as well. Let me know if it is ok and I will start putting questions together.

I agree with Fran I don't think any of us are going to miss A flight to Paris or something. It's just a game.

Lets just play a game in the mean time to keep us busy while Karen comes back.

Everybody I hope you have a blessed Sunday :o) :o)

Just want to help avoid any frustration between players. I'd rather present a possible solution rather than be frustrated. But if everyone is cool the way it is, let's play on.

What's the game? I wanna win some Daylilies!

Will I go to hell for playing while I'm in church? lol

YES ptilda you will NOW put that phone down and listen to the preacher LOL....

oh wait I think church is over now, it is past 12:00 lol, so you can play on just NOT while you are driving home.

It is frustrating having to wait on other players BUT we knewn that when we signed up for the game, so we wait LOL.

hmmmm, I wonder where Shirley is I hope she is coming in the post her game I wanna play too, I REALLY liked that daylily she posted for the prize this time.
SHIRLEY would you PLEASE post the pic again? I want to drool some more.

Fran, I'm with you and Carmen. I'm perfectly happy waiting for Karen.

Ptilda, recently I disappeared when I was supposed to post a game for everyone to play. I made a big build up to it, made sure everyone was looking forward to it and then got a phone call with an emergency that I needed to attend to immediately preceding the game. Ididn't post the game, everyone was wondering where in the heck I ran off to. I'm sure they were thinking it was an elaborate prank. I took some ribbing, rightly so. LOL! The girls were all great and understood my little absence. They made me feel good and a little less guilty with their understanding. The next day we played and all was good.

Girls, I won't be around for most of the rest of today. I have a family party to go to this afternoon. This one tends to be a bit of a wild one and we'll be out pretty late. Word of advice...

Don't steal my box, Karen! LOL!

Didn't Karen give us a heads up that she might have trouble getting online while visiting her folks or am I confused again?
At any rate, waiting is no big deal. Something could happen to any one of us that could delay our checking in.

Having said that, if she knows what's good for her, she will stay away from box 6!

Gonna look pretty bad when you get caught playing online in CHURCH lady! hehe

OH YES Tracy, I remember that hehe....A pretty wild party huh? Never been to one of those, I am so deprived.

Ok well, I hope folks start filtering in soon. I am ready to DO something hehe.

I just came in from planting to see if Karen came back yet, I'm glad I did! I forgot about the game today.

Ptilda, even if I didn't have my box frozen, I too would want to wait for Karen. Life happens!

Shirley, let's play or am I now banned for being an airhead.

Alana, you aren't confused, Karen did say she would have a hard time to check in. Truth be told it is all my fault since I stole her box. I thought she still had time to check in before she had to leave. :O( Always the trouble maker.

Fran, yes, this one gets a bit crazy, hubby's cousin has a full bar in his game room with several different beers on tap. Last time the evening ended with fireworks and a corn cob throwing contest. The men were all lit up like chritmas trees and they were seeing who could throw their cob the furthest past the in ground pool. Needless to say, there were a substantial number that ended up in the pool. Once again, I will be the designated driver. :O)

The very people who expressed their frustration in the game being halted, are the ones now defending the existing process! lol

You should realize, I don't care either way whether we move on, but some of you DO care, but would rather complain than find a solution. I offered a solution ONLY for the sake of those who were frustrated. Guess you had a change of heart overnight.

  • ncgardengirl
    Original Author
    last modified: 9 years ago

It isn't a matter of complaining, it is how this game goes. There is not real solution other then waiting on the person whose turn it is.

It isn't Karen's fault that her box was stolen, she also stated that she would be away, but her box was stolen from her knowing this SO she can't be faulted or passed over because the rest of us wish to play nor can the game continue without her because let's say we decided based on the fact that no fault of her's we pass over her.
WELL that effects ME because I am in pocession of her box, so that means I wouldn't have a box so would that therefore NOW make it my turn because I would be boxless?

Not fair to Karen OR me to do that, the only fair thing to do IS wait. No matter how frustrating it is to be waiting that is all we can do unless the game is completely discontinued all together and Shirley decided to pair us up based on who joined. THEN there would have been no point in posting the contents..... it is just how this game is played, whether we like it or not the fact IS when we signed up for this swap we knew what the game was.
It just seems to go better in the other groups because I guess more people are able to be online more often in those groups....

    :( Fran

Ptilda, we were all joking around passing the time. Glad that you don't care one way or the other. No one is truly frustrated, just gentle/not so gentle teasing. We can be a rowdy bunch but it is all in good fun.

BUT these are in my box not Tomato Soup,

Ptilda, There really was no need for that comment. I think you got your panties in a bunch over nothing! LOL

The petal pushers are a friendly group of ladies who love to rib each other, noone really means any harm! I know I get anxious to pick a box but certainly wouldn't have wanted someone to be skipped over, the ribbing of Karen is all in fun.

Speaking of ribbing, where the heck is our hostess. She promised a game ,da@# it and then decided to go out and play instead.

I need to get back out and plant some more, I'll check back in a bit.

My panties are certainly not in a bunch. As I've stated multiple times, I threw out a solution. It was deemed unnecessary, and that's perfectly fine with me. Quite honestly, I'm not sure why it's still being discussed.

Silly me I ordered 10 beautiful hostas, hopefully I can trade some in our Aug. swap, we do have another one in Aug. right?

Your panties seem a little bunched to me as well. I re-read most of last evening's posts and see no mention of any cranky people posting impatience in waiting for Karen to come by.

I think it is time to drop the subject because what will undoubtedly happen when Karen does come back is that she will have hurt feelings. She is one of the sweetest most caring individuals and deserves our patience and understanding as is our custom here.

Carmen, all of your plants are doing fantastic here! I am amazed at how quickly they have thrown off new growth. The twisted arrows is happily throwing off new shoots as are all the sedums. I have been enjoying blooms from your rain lilies every few days. I finally snagged a picture of one last night that I need to upload for you to see tomorrow. The only sad one is the begonia that I have potted up, it got a touch too much water with all the rain we had. It is now sheltered from the rain and developing new growth. Looking much happier now.

Yea those begonias are finiky about wet feet, they like it a little on the 'just moist' side.
I have a begonia that I brought from the ilands, it has HUGE leaves some are over 15" wide and the flowers are gorgous the only bad thing is that I don't know who she is.
any way I'll post some pics soon. I love begonias. Im glad you are enjoying the rain lilies, my yellow and white have not done a thing for, but oh that pink she always explodes with blooms.

Carmen, that is what I figured. I thought I had it tucked back enough on the patio to shelter it but was soooo wrong! Of course, the monsoons that we had were a little tough to hide from. I should have brought it in the house.

I would love to see some pics of your giant begonia! The pink RL is who I have a picture of. You should know they must behave here as they do at home since that is the one who has bloomed most here too. LOL!

I've gone and caught up with the thread and see I've caused a little trouble. I haven't gone back to the previous thread, but thought I had wrote that I wouldn't be back For most of the day and all of last evening. Things didn't go as I thought and I never got to check in around supper time, like I had hoped. My hubby is on the fire dept. and every year they host a Firemans Appreciation day, with activities throughout the day. I didn't get home until 2am last night and went straight to bed. This morning I slept in, and then got busy with chores and feeding people and completely forgot to check in, and for this I am truely sorry! Please no one be mad at Priscilla, or at each other. (..or at me...) I know it gets hard waiting, and I've made everyone wait for a long time.

Can we get back to having fun??? I'm giving you all my best puppy eyes right now!

Apparently, I was wrong on a couple of these numbers yesterday, but I wasn't sure where that was. Does someone who understood it want to make the corrections for me? Tks.

Taking box 5 from Karen! Hahahahaha! Ok, we're leaving now and will not be back until very late. So have fun and run with those boxes!

Karen, hugs! You are just perfect. Love you!

Somebody update the list, cause I've got to go! Bye!

I'll keep track of who has what & how many times they've had it, if someone else wants to keep track of how many times each box was stolen, 'cause I don't have those numbers up-to-date.

I'm going back to my original choice, and taking #2 from Denise. (running fast!!)

    Have fun Tracy!

Priscilla, my son spilled pop on my sheet, and I never made a new one, so I can not help you with your list, believe me, I wish I still had mine!!

Does anyone care if we go with the numbers as I have them on my list now & don't worry if they are off one or two numbers (I know mine are right, 'cause I've only picked 2x & I think everyone else's are too)? I'll do the times each box has been picked based on the last list of it's kind, 'cause I'm NOT gonna go back & count them all! :)
