| Oh, Anita, I think we're all here and check in periodically. This being prime gardening, outdoor, vacation, kids home from school season, everyone's so busy. Once the weather cools a bit I'll bet we all return inside again and chat. How are things upstate these days? Dianne |

| Morning all...HUGS!! Dawn that baby from yours is SO CUTE..gave him kisses for me..hehe Ladies the pictures on the picture post are awesome. Been kinda of busy with the gardens and things.Trying to get a few things done, that I've been hopeing that would go away. You know like painting the garage..hehe.Should have done that two years ago.Got that done.hehe..Next is the front porch.Well that needed paint for just a few years..hehe.Needs rains gutters too,so I want to make a rain chain also.Think it would look cool.Started digging to put in slate patio in under my close line and yes I still use one..Love it..smiles..Oh and the cite decited that we all needed new sidewalks.OH JOY(NOT!)I had, have gardens on both sides of the walks.City guy comes and tells me that I need to move all my rocks(I have a thing for rocks, lots of rocks)I ask if thats all I need to move is the rocks, thinkng that I might need to remove so gardens. But no he says that should be good.So DH moved ALL the rocks(love that man).Good thing the next day they removed the old side walk and a 1/4 of the gardens on both sides. What they didn't dug up they walked all over.Sigh.I was just alittle miffed off,to say the least.Well all said and done, then they came back and seed my gardens.DH and son went out and clean out what they could, but alot still come up.Hubby asked they why they were putting grass seed in my flower beds, they said no one told them not to.Well damn ever garden wants grass in thier flower beds.Big sigh.So I'm still cleaning that out and putting rocks back.It will never look the same.Pout...hehehe..Sorry for running on so. Just wanted to stop in and say HELLO. Jean/Dirtpig |

| Good Morning Everyone, A big thanks to all of you for the daylilies received in rememberance of my father in law. You guys are just the best and I am so blessed to have you all as my friends. I came here a few days ago to let you know I had received my box and to try to catch up with all the posts after not being on the computer for the last couple of weeks. I was so sad to learn of the passing of Carmen and as I sat pouring through the last 100 posts and all of the emails I just sat and cried for about 2 hours at the computer and was too overwhelmed at that point to post my thanks. Carmen will truly be missed as part of our group but I am so thankful that she will no longer be in pain. Thank you Marea for sending on flowers from us. I'll be emailing you today to see if I can send you some money. Life here has been hectic. Working 6 nights a week and trying to catch up on much needed sleep during the day. Kids are home for summer vacation so trying to do some thing with them during the day also. My gardens are really suffering this year. Barely finding time to water enough to keep things alive, but ofcourse the weeds are growing like crazy. Daylilies are blooming and I try to take a quick walk every morning to see what's blooming for the day. Have some first bloomers this year from the group - 'Zephyr's Song' from Cindy, 'Spiny Sea Urchin' from Sherri, 'Spacecoast Ruffles' from Debbie, also buds on my 'Ed Brown' from Jo, 'Forbidden Desires' from Marea, 'Art Gallery Quilling' from Sharon. I also have four first year seedlings from seeds that Cindy sent me that are blooming already. 2 were nothing spectacular, 1 is blooming today (Mask of Time x Clarification) that looks like a keeper, and 1 is still in bud (Radiation Biohazard x Snake in the Grass Boo)Looking forward to seeing this one - Thanks Cindy. I'm enjoying the pictures on the other thread, but because of dial up it's very slow to load and I only get about half of them when the thread gets to over 20 posts. Could someone start a new one PLEASE???? I'm anxious to see new pictures of Talon and the last few Dawn has posted will not load for me. Marea, I see a new address for you in one of the emails - are you moved to your new permanent place? Jean, sorry to hear about your dug up, walked over and grass seeded gardens .....GRRRRR...... Hope the new sidewalks are worth it. Better go for now. Today's my one day off and it's looking like we might get some much needed rain so I want to get out and do a few DL crosses and take some pictures. Love you guys and thanks again for my remembrance daylilies. Got them planted yesterday before work and I'll be looking forward to seeing them bloom next year. |
|
| Hello everyone. Mary, just a little hint. When the photos start loading, hit the little X in your menu bar (stop button), which will stop the load. Then go to the photos you want to see (they'll be little red X boxes), click on the right button on your mouse, and hit "show photo." This way it'll only load the ones you want to see and not all the previous ones you already saw. Hope that helps. All the photos are great BTW. I'll have to see if I can find some photos of my kids :-). There's a lady looking for a trade with TD so she can join the group. I'm linking her post in case you didn't see it. Hope everyone's well. It's been hot here... my tropicals are loving it. Paul |

| MaryB we are getting rain here also. Much much needed rain. I will set up another picture thread it doesn't take long to fill them up and I love all the pictures. I would love to see the Snake in the Grass Boo and Radiation Biohazard seedling. Jean-I hate when people don't THINK. Grass in a flower bed, bless their heart. Anita-I will be sending your irises real soon. We are getting rain and they look great. I lost a few that you sent I guess the trip was to much for them. If you have extras I will trade for them later. Been very busy here with the drought I spent most evenings trying to keep things watered. Now with the rain comes the dreaded weeds. There's always something to take up our time. Everyone take care. Shirley |

| Thank you all so much for the daylilies you sent me for rememberances for my Dad. Sorry to say we were gone for a long time and they sat at the post office for all that time. No green on the leaves, but the roots look alive. I have them in water now and will plant them tomorrow. I'm sure they will be fine. I was so sad to read about Carmen. I hadn't known she was that sick. Great pictures on the picture thread everyone. Angie, you just have the cutest boys and you sure know how to take great pictures ... pictures of them doing things and at special places. Dawn, Talon is a doll and growing so fast! I have to say to Cindy that I absolutely love Bas Relief ... I may be repeating myself saying that, but I just love the sculpting. I have a seedling that has the sculpting too, just bloomed. I have it marked as a keeper. :o) It may be a Bas RElief baby but as usual, the marker telling me who the parents were is gone. Marea, the red daylilies you sent me last year are blooming and they look great ... can't remember the names right now. sharon |

| Wow 10,000 posts. Who would have thought when this started we would make it this far. I as so glad I signed up for that first trade!!!! Remeber the silly game we played with Gloria, where we had everyone at Gardenweb waiting for the scavenger hunt and I won? I won 10 daylily's gloria sent me and they bloomed this year. Very pretty. I have been so busy with this t-ball stuff. 2 more weeks and it is finished. A group of 12 is going to Six Flags for 2 days this weekend-that ought to kill me! Beds are doing so so this year. Thank goodness for all this rain we have had or everything would be dead. Dawn Talon is growing so fast!!!! He is just so adorable!! Glad he is sleeping good at night for you. My cousin rocked her baby to sleep every night and then let her sleep in her swing all night. Needless to say, she turned 1 last week and still does not sleep in her bed through the night she is up 3-4 times a night! She is paying dearly for that! Jean what a bummer on the grass, I would have given them a piece of my mind! Well off to do house work, kids are watching Happy Feet, so I shoudld get a room or two clean! Angie |

| Where is everyone? Anita wholly smokes on the bear. Was that at your house?? I would absolutely pee my pants. I walked outside a while ago and there were 4 wild kittens in my catmint, scared the crap out me we they all jumped out at one time. The neighbor down the road says he doesn't own any cats, but he feeds about 20 strays and they just keep multiplying, now they have found my kitty nip! My upright elephant ears are so pretty, when they get a little bigger I will post a picture. I lined the new garage with those, caladium and lily's. I am waiting on the boys to get home so we can leave for six flags. Off to do some last minute packing. Have a good weekend all. Angie |

| Angie-Six Flags? There is a six flags in Atlanta Georgia and we used to go all the time when we lived there. Then you get older and don't go to the theme parks. Anita-I think a bear came in the yard and took my bird feeder out of a tree. I can't think of anything else that could reach it except a bear. It was tore apart and the seeds eaten. Come bear season they all disappear. I think they are very smart. I sold flowers at the Farmers Market again this morning and did very well. We start selling at 8:00 and leave at 12:00 so I really like the hours. It just takes so long to dig and pot all of them for each week. I'm trying to downsize and want to get rid of my biggest two beds. I love seeing all the produce and buy green beans, corn, potatoes and such. Need to get busy outside bye for now. Gloria-Sooooooo good to see you post. Hope we can get a swap going soon. I have a daylily want list a mile long. I'm trying to downsize and want daylilies, makes sense right. Shirley |
|
| Love all the photos... Daylilies and bears, oh my. I'm only about 6 miles from the Six Flags Magic Mountain. World famous for their roller coasters, but I think I'm getting too old for 'em :-). We used to get season tickets, but kids are at that inbetween age where they don't want to play in the kids area, but are too scared to go on the big coasters. Gloria, great to see you posting again. Welcome back :-). Paul |

| Hi - Just tootling along with my left hand still healing. The repaired thumb looks funny to me now but the dr says all's well. I get to start using it near the end of August. Lots of potting on this year's seedlings. Roses, Candy lilies, Dianthus, Violas, Gas Plants...goes slowly with a hand and a half. Shirley sent me a bunch of extra Iris - a surprise for my birthday. Shirley, you are just the nicest friend! They are all planted in a new bed. Year two and the daylily patch is blooming well. We have plenty of water to get us thru this dry dry summer. The storms that pop up here and there keep missing us. We water. Great crop of blueberries this year and the birds are leaving them alone. Wild raspberries are extra good too. Good to read all your messages. Pictures wonderful, too. Bears, oh my! About all I can do now with my bum hand. You're all in my thoughts as I enjoy the garden blooming. Barb |

| Hi All, Well like the rest of you, I have been busy in the garden. I am tilling up the perimeter of my yard to move my older daylilies from the garden rows to their new location. I will use the garden space to put all the new daylilies I am getting this year. Like some of you, I think I tried to buy out Maryott's. And yippee....they are starting to be shipped this week. I just love their sales. Thanks Angie for the heads up on this one. There is so much to catch up on. I have been reading the posts, usually once a week, and trying to view all the pictures. I love what so many of you are doing with trying your own hybridizing. Good luck. If you haven't looked lately, I have one posted that Marea sent me a couple of years ago. It was full of blooms this year. The funny thing was, one scape might have cream with a blue/lavender eye and another scape might have a pink bloom with a wider eye. Was I seeing things? Or maybe I had plants too close together???I don't know but both were beautiful and I am keeping them. But I will share if anyone wants some. Thanks dear Marea. I'll have to do more catch up later. I have some e-mails I need to get to. Debbie/budsnblooms |

I would have never thunk it...Chicago Bears yes...NY Bears Wow. Glad David had his trusty camera handy Anita...Sounds like you should have had one on hand too..Too funny. | Hello! MamaG!!! Yay, i'm so glad you found us and have returned to get the trading started back up. Wonderful! I wish I could play. Hopefully soon. It will be fun to watch all of you though. : ) Can't wait to hear what it is that's got you so excited.....c'mon, please tell!! HUGS! Debbie, great to see you posting too! I think we need pics...your gardens always inspire me. Carol, how 'bout some pics of your new gardens? I loved those big rocks you put into that long bed. Did your DH carry those in for you?? ; ) Talon is just wonderful, thanks. I'll put an updated pic over on the other thread so you can see my little chunky monkey. Happy 29th!!!! Marea, when's the frog hoppin' contest??? Anita....WOW! Those bear pics were awesome. I can just imagine you & DH out there in the dark, bear spotting. We've been having a rash of bear spottings locally, and one was caught right down the road from our new house. I'll post a link to the story down below. Jean, that really stinks about the grass seed in your sidewalk bed. Some people are just clueless. Loved your pic of the Maltese Cross. I had one years ago and it eventually pooped out & croaked. I remember it attracted lots of ants for some strange reason, kind of like a Peony does. They would crawl on the flowers. Do you notice that with yours? Maybe the blooms are real sweet? Hi Barb! Glad the doc said your thumb is okay and hope you'll be back to using it soon. What have you made with your blueberries? I've hardly had time to get out in the gardens and have no idea how many blueberries I got this year. Isn't that a shame! I figured the birdies could have them. All my DL's are bloomin' their little hearts out right now and when I look out the window and see all that beautiful color I think of all of you. Way back when, I started out with 1 or 2 named DL's, and now my yard is filled. I can't wait to get them all moved over to the new place. Speaking of which, i'll post some new pics along with some pics of my sweet baby over on the other thread. Well, my time is about up so I better finish up. Hope to do some more catching up soon. Have fun with the swap! Hugs all around, |

| Hello again! I have been gone on vacation and am finally getting around to catching up on all the computer stuff. We went to Washington DC. Lots to see and do there but it is always good to be home! The traffic and people everywhere would take alot of getting used to for me! It has been hot and humid here! Whew! I can only stand to be out in the garden early in the morning! We really need rain. It just seems to miss us! I try to water but just isn't the same as a good rain! I still have a few daylilies in bloom, but some are looking like they are going dormant or sick/dying...leaves are all turning brown. Hope it is not the latter and that they will be back next year. Can any of you experts tell me???? I would love to be in on the trade but I am not sure what is happening to my daylilies???? I will wait to hear from some of you before I sign up for sure.....Would not want to send anyone bad stuff! Maybe I should not disturb them at this point???? Some of my hostas are getting brown leaves too....Help! Dawn, What a cutie little Talon is and he sure is growing too! Your house is really coming along, too! What gorgeous daylily bloom pictures some of you are posting!!! Anita...Quite the bear story! Happy Birthday to Carol and Cody!!! Thanks for the belated wishes, too. While we were gone DD got engaged so looks like we will be planning a wedding, possibly next summer. Well better go! Mary |

| Oh Mary, what exciting news about the daughter! Sorry, I don't know what could be going on with your daylilies. We weren't getting much rain here either, but the dl's did not turn brown. If you don't get an answer here, I would post over on the dl forum. Paul, can't wait to see pics of the dahlias and the cannas. Sorry, only one fan of the spider seedling. This was her first bloom year. But I will have seeds from what I believe are her 2 parents ... Purple Many Faces x Pink Super Spider. They are both dips and the little surprise spider popped up right in front of them. Let me know if you are interested and I will put you down for a few. :o) I can't be in the dl swap, too many pods on them. sharon |

| Welcome back MaryS. Sounds like a fun trip and congratulations on your daughters engagement. I have been reading over on Dave's that a lot of people are having weather related problems with their daylilies. Some are describing yellowing and browning of the leaves, less growth, less blooming etc. I will be happy to trade with you in the swap. I'll be glad to help with organizing the trade. It would be great to have a couple of more people to sign up before we start. We should be hearing soon from Gloria about the details of the swap and I think I need another clue to her surprise. Does anyone else have any ideas about that? I've posted my daughters wedding pictures on our other thread if you want to go look. Debbie/budsnblooms |

| Looks like there is so much to catch up on with this group. Hello! I just found this well done power point on lilium ( first) and DL ( next) www.hort.wisc.edu/mastergardener/Spec Training/ flowers&houseplants06/lily-daylily program.ppt No I didn't make this powerpoint- Are you kidding- I don't know much on DL. I sure am glad for the person here who told us about the co-op. ( do you think I can remember- no!) I am thrilled with my orientpet lilium. I must have more! I did a talk again on seed saving with my garden group's openhouse/garden tour/plant sale. I also ran the plant table and made $80 on my plant sales. Boy if in bloom it will sell! DL are no exception. I was so pleased to see member of my other garden group, gardeners in my church, and an online gardner friend stop by. We too went to 6 flags( in chicago) this summer and soon will take the family to whitewater raft in CO. It will be our longest family road trip. Wish us luck! You can email me personally if you want me to attach some zone 5 garden pics from here for you. Susan , My variegated datura story is over with Ball seed as the seeds did not prove to carry the variegation. Still waiting to hear word from PW Euro on the cuttings they were able to root. Garden tour here end of Aug. Be sure to stop by.. Lol! don't forget to check the DL power point link!!! |

| Gloria----I'll come as I usually rent a cabin there twice a year anyway, why not three times. I'm sure Canna will come it will be in her back door. Sure hope several will take advantage of this get together. Will check out your ebay page sounds like a great deal for $3.99 MaryS-Glad you had a nice vacation, congratulations to your daughter. You will soon have a son-in-law in the family. I really like my son-in-law my daughter sure lucked up when she found him. Just cut the leaves back on your daylilies and they should perk up and put out healthy green leaves again. Even though we water when there's no rain it's not like a good rain on our plants. Debbie-Going now to look at the wedding pictures. Debbie you are not that far from Tenn.surely you can come and stay at a cabin with the rest of us. I hope to visit KY next year. This year is out but maybe next year. Karen-Sorry about the datura seeds, hoping the cuttings prove the variegation to be consistent. Will check out the DL power point link. I get to speak to our garden group twice a year and I really enjoy it. I love talking about plants. Anita-Where are you? Sure hope you got the irises, I haven't heard if you did but sure hope so. | Gloria...I should also be able to go to Gatlinburg in the spring. Hubby and I usually go a couple of times a year. I have never stayed in one of the cabins, but it sounds like fun. I'll send an e-mail to everyone about it. I know I would love meeting everyone. I am always flabbergasted when I see someone that I have already formed a mental picture of them in my head. I am usually way off....I will probably have my hair dyed back to brunette by that time so you probably won't recognize me even if you look at the wedding pics. For those who have never been to Gatlinburg, TN it is beautiful. I have some brochures of various places and things to do in that area, I can post on the other thread if you're interested and Rebecca can fill in the details. Shirley and Rebecca..I go by Knoxville (where Rebecca lives) and also travel through part of NC (where Shirley lives) going to Myrtle Beach each year. We usually have someone else travelling with us, so I haven't suggested stopping to see anyone yet...and I wouldn't without letting you know first ...but I may get to visit one of you sometime. I would love for any of you to come visit me. I think you would love the farm and since I live around many of those horse farms you hear about at Derby time, I would take you on a tour of the "Paris Pike" where many of those farms are located. The invitation especially goes for you Shirley, since you may be headed this way. MaryS...I recently looked up your membership/trade page and we have a lot in common. I am a retired school nurse and I too live in a rural area on a farm. We raise beef cattle. I went through a little of Iowa in the late 80's when our family "went out west". Marea...I just got our most recent acquisition you sent. I definitely will send you something nice next year...Thanks for those beautiful Munsons. Sherri, Cindy, Sharon and Marea...you ladies have inspired me to try my hand at crossing some daylilies, probably next year, but I still have a few blooming that I may just try one or two now...anything I should know before I start? Jo...where are you lady? I sure miss seeing you post. Debbie |
|
| I will come to the Gatlinburg party ~ what grand fun this is gonna be!! Debbie - You are very welcome. You KNOW I consider your garden the Munson genetic bank, don't you? I probably should add that to my will. Shirley - did you get those rose cuttings I sent last month? Did they die on the way? Carol, I was in Vancouver WA the other day on a dump truck part buying trip & waved at ya! Jo I miss you too!!! Marea

| Debbie and Marea so glad you will be attending the get together. When you know that far in advance it is much easier to make the trip. Several from Daves Garden met in Asheville, NC this year for a big swap. I loved seeing gardeners who posted all the time. One lady flew in from Las Vegas for the get together. Marea-Yes I did get the rose cuttings and they arrived in excellent shape but I stink at rooting anything. I know they say they are so easy but it just doesn't work for me. I can root sedum and corkscrew willow trees though. LOL Shirley |

| Thanks Shirley...I look forward to meeting everyone that attends. So far I have Gloria, Shirley, Marea, and Debbie (me) that are for sure coming. Carol did you mean you may come too??? Or were you just pulling hillbilly legs with your toilet joke;^) Everyone knows that every cabin comes with it's own outhouse and a supply of Sears and Roebuck catalogs (only some of the other hillbillies will understand this comment). Right Rebecca? (you may be too young to know what I am talking about). Are you going to get to come? Hope so. Gloria, have you decided if we are having an Aug. swap or a Sept. one? If Sept. please make it early enough that plants have enough time to settle in for some of us more northern than GA, which means just about everyone;0) 1. Gloria Debbie/budsnblooms |

| Hi all, I am here. Just got back from a trip to Baltimore. Spent three days with 17 boyscouts and 9 parents on a WWII submarine and a coast guard cutter. I would like to choke the person who had the idea of spending the night on a submarine... Anywho, I would be crazy to pass up hanging out with you all in Gatlinburg, especially with Gloria footing the bill, LOL! I'll even pick folks up at the airport. Yep, Carol, we gots them fancy flushin' toilets here. ~Canna |
|
| Cindi - you can come too, c'mon! We are gonna have the traveling daylily party of a lifetime!! |
|
| Holy smokes, sounds like a lot of fun! I'm going to hold off on a yes or no for awhile till I see how things go around here. It's great seeing the posting start to pick up, too. I have a funny kind of dilemma going on in one of my daylily beds. Last spring I carefully researched and downloaded pictures of all the daylilies I had. I transplanted all the red, oranges and yellows into one bed (one of each color) and carefully mapped them. Some have bloomed, but there are about six plants in the bed of the same small red/orange unidentified DL scattered throughout. Could they have been left from the original bed? I'm not complaining, it's just odd. I'll see how things go as the fans mature. I also got my first bloom on Childhood Memories (Gloria?) and wow, what a beauty! Right now it's too hot and humid for me to putter around much, but it sure is nice looking out from the air-conditioned house. Happy gardening, Dianne |
|
| Diane, some species daylilies, the ditch lily and Kwanso reproduce by sending out long underground stolons - maybe thats what happened to your carefully arranged bed? I'm gonna PLAN on you being healthy & able to come to the Gatlinburg party ;-) marea |

| Diane-You can come with the other NY ladies to the get together. I sure hope everyone takes advantage of this it may be our only time of getting together. Wow is the Minnesota Bridge collapse tragic or what. I am praying for all the families and loved ones involved. I sure hated to hear that bad news. Shirley |

| Wowza, I went online to see how long of a drive it would be and it looks to be 8-9 hours! EEEKKK!! I do not do well in a car over 3. Karen sounds like one heck of drive there to CO. My daylilys are about bloomed out. I have started trimming the foliage so they don't look so bad. I am working on a sprinkler system for next year.
This is the side of my new garage. With Upright EE, Red Stripe Canna that Anita sent me last year and Caladium.

| I wanna' come to Gatlinburg!!! What a great idea Gloria, and generous offer to pay for the digs! When DH and I visited that area a few years ago I just fell in love with it. It is so beautiful. Spring is really going to be a busy time for me, so i'm not sure that I can swing it. I'm hoping and a prayin' that we will be close to moving in to the new house and I can only imagine how crazy things are going to get. And I just can't imagine leaving my sweet baby yet either. : ) I'm sure you can understand. But don't count me out yet....we'll see what happens. According to my calculations, Gatlinburg is about 472 miles away. Drive time is about 7 hours 51 mins. Not too bad. I'm going to be digging so many plants in the Spring for relocation to the new house and i'll bet I will have tons of divisions that I could bring. : ) Angie, beautiful garage & border! What is the spotted? variegated? plant on the end? Looks like a tropical that I used to have. Those are nice rocks! Dianne, HUGE HUGS! I am thinking about you. Marea, Sounds like the time spend with your friend at the frog hop was "toadilly" cool. ; ) Anita & Jo....where are you hiding???? Susan, how are things? HUGS Mary, Mary.......hello and hello! Hi Karen & Sharon! Paul, how has the "rebuilding" of your plant collection been going? Cody, how is life back home? Cindy O....Oh Cindy! Hello to you too! Hi Sherri! Did you see that crazy Mountain Dew commercial with the chainsaw wielding Ferret? At least I *think* it's a Ferret???? I almost peed my pants! Melissa......I really love the tropical sleeper you sent the baby! I will take a pic next time he's wearing it. Hello Shirley! Hello Nancy! Gloria, LOVE your template on Ebay and DD's cookies are so cute! They look delicious! Woof, woof! Canna, you deserve some sort of Boy Scout medal of honor. I can't even imagine how crazy that night must've been! LOL I want to hear more. : ) Debbie, I believe I told you how much I loved the wedding pics, but just wanted to say it again. You all look lovely! Jean, how is Bird-Bird? How are ya' feeling Barb? I know i've missed some of you, but please know I think about you all everyday. : ) What a terrible tragedy the Minnesota bridge collapse is. I really have such a hard time fathoming how something like that can just fail and crash completely to the ground. Unbelievable! The infrastructure in our country is really in need of serious repair. My state is pretty much at the top of the list.....can you believe we have over 5500 bridges that are structurally deficient or obsolete????!!! Check out the link at the bottom. It's an interactive map that lets you see how many bridges your state has and how many are in need of repair. PA has always been known for it's horrendously terrible roads, so I am not surprised that our bridges are in such bad shape. Have fun with the swap everyone! Still hot and steamy here in Western PA. We've had quite a few 90+ degree days with more on the way. Little Talon & I have spent almost the entire summer inside....just too hot to take the little fella' outside. Poor baby got his 1st round of immunization shots on Monday. He screamed and cried and Momma needed a lollipop on the way out to make her feel better. ; ) Speaking of which, Steelers training camp has been in full swing, right up the road from our place and we have our 1st pre-season game this Sunday against New Orleans. You know I am excited. DH and I have already planned our snacks!! : ) Bricklaying has begun at the new house!!! Poor DH, works all day in the 90 degree weather then comes home and lays even more brick 'till the sun goes down. I give him 5 gal. of ice water to take with him....and he usually needs more. I don't have the most recent pics loaded in yet, but i'll post some from the other day on our pic thread. Hope you are all doing well.....try and check in if you can. HUGS,

| Morning TD's, Here's the list I have so far of who is in the trade Gloria has going. Let me know if I've missed anyone. As far as who is going to Gatlinburg. Here's what I have so far: Have a wonderful Sunday. It just quit raining here. So I won't get to start planting the new daylilies from MARYOTT'S. All I can say is WOW, I can't believe the size and number of fans they send. I just love their sales. Just in time for the trade too:0) Everyone who has signed up needs to update their pages so we'll know what to send you. Especially if you ordered from Maryott's, you want to get something that you don't already have on order. Debbie/budsnblooms |

| Hi troops, I'm fine, just tootling along thru summer with my dandy power chair. I go just everywhere, up much steeper than recommended, thru ditches and over rocks - I'm pretty adept at getting it stuck or muddy or both. Great fun! Look at Talon grow! Keep the pictures coming, Dawn, and you know, you look FABULOUS! How did you do that? Does everyone have tons of pods this year? I have a nice little horde of DLs from last year's seed and this next batch of pods will be even more interesting to try! I think I completely burned out (and maybe, up!) DH with all the digging he had to do for me this year. So much new garden! He's not alarmed by weeds so things always look shaggy to some degree. Since can't pull 'em, I refuse to be overly bothered about it! There's an Italian Greyhound fun race coming up later this month. I'll see if I can get DH to take me and Luther.Seems like the only time I get out is to go to the doctor. Sharon, are all your spider fans taken? I never turn down a pretty spider - is there one for me? I'm going to give up on the pretty Confederate Rose Deni sent me. I can't get it to bloom and I don't have room for it indoors. Anybody know how to get those to flower in Z5? Susan - waiting for blooms from Brug 'Apricot Moon Flower'. The cool nights have slowed them way down. Good old Frosty Pink is wowing the neighbors again this year. I tried to keep track of a few of my blue wind flowers for you, Anita, but they got engulfed in Mayapples and vanished. It was you who wanted some, wasn't it? Next year for sure. Marea, my Seeing Blue and Garden Palace Beauty need another year before dividing. Yours then if you still want them. I would love to have your lovely gold edged pink. Paul my Christmas cactus turns out to be a mini. I watered it hardly at all and it took off happily and grew. Looks silly in that big pot - now I have to get it to bloom. See? Told you I have nothing interesting to report. Barb |

| Hello Everyone, Here it is 10:30 pm and I am still up, wow!!! I have been reading posts. I am usually in bed and asleep waaaaaaay before now. I couldn't get my poor computer to bring up the "picture" thread, so I will just have to live without seeing all your wonderful photos. I miss you Carmen, but I know you are in no pain, and are probably helping to tend all of Gods gardens. I am sorry to be so scarce this summer, but we have had so much to do around here. We did almost nothing last year, and everything has gotten so far ahead of us. We have made a lot of progress though. Our gardens are really beginning to look like I have envisioned them. I have hundreds of daylilies in bloom right now. Along with a datura that somehow seeded itself and came up from last year. I really do miss all of you, and I am sorry I don't get on here more. I seem to be busier now than when I worked 60+ hours a week. But, I do want all of you to know, that you all are in my prayers every day. I got the e-mail from Debbie about Gloria's wonderful idea for us to get together next spring. And, I was very excited to see it. Anyhoo, big warm hugs to you all. Jo |

| Hi Friends, Just wanted to check in long enough to tell you that I have been sitting at the hospital with my Aunt. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer which has spread to multiple parts of her body. She has been given 3-6 mos. to live. She is in terrible pain and was told that sometime in the past she has had a bad heart attack that left her heart only operating at 50%. She is not a canidate for chemo or radiation. Only comfort measures are being taken at this point. Maretta (my aunt) has a son in MD who is no help and a daughter who is sitting with her mom day and night...so I am going to relieve Teresa (my cousin) so she can go home for showers and some rest. I hope to do this every other day. So if I don't respond to e-mail's etc. for a day or two at a time, you will know what is going on. Shirley, I am thrilled to have you as a partener. I have taken a quick glance at your want list and have some of the things on there so I will be e-mailing you soon to see if you have gotten any of them since last updating your list. I also have something special I want to send you. A surprise that I hope you will like. Thanks Marea...you are just the best at interpreting our dear Ms. G. (wink). Sharon...I love your family lake house. It must be heaven to own a place on the lake like that. It's been one of my dreams...I love to fish and especially love the peace and quiet of being on the water. I am happy for you that you have such a dream place. Keep us posted on the improvements. Talk to you more later. Debbie |
|
| Just wanted to say HELLO to everyone! We are doing well.....baby is getting BIG. He will be turning 3 months old next week!!! Wow, I can hardly believe it. And our dear little Maleah is headed off to school....oh my! How time flies. Canna, she is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing those pics of your beautiful family. I guess everyone is very busy....this thread was started on July 3rd! Jaye, nice to hear from you! I have tons of catching up to do, but i'm typing one-handed so it will have to wait until I have two free arms, lol. The bricklaying is coming along fabulously at the new house. DH is more than 1/2 way done already. I'll post some updated pics after I visit there this afternoon. Sis Jenna and I took the babies to "Critter Country" yesterday. It was a hoot. I've got some pics of that too. Niece Brooklyn will be turning one very soon! Hugs to all.......i'll be back soon. ~Dawn (mamabirrd) |

| Hello everyone; I would very much like to join this group of traders. I am an avid daylily collector and have around 75 hybrids....and am dabbling in hybridizing myself. I just got done planting over 100 seedlings. Only started about 4 years ago so you can tell what a NUT I am. Compulsive collector by nature I guess. : ) I'm not sure if I have actually traded with anyone on this forum or not. I know several of you from other forums. Would someone please trade with me so I can join? I really love daylilies; everything else I grow is just to show them off. LOL veeja11 - Wanna trade? I may just be able to squeeze one more fan from that clump of something you want!!! Hugs to all Roxanne |

I may not get back to you until Monday if that's ok. My husband has been gone for 3 weeks; he wasn't supposed to be home until mid-week but called and he's on his way home now. Whoopee! Roxanne |

| Sharon-Your cottage looks great...I like Debbie think something like that is a dream come true. I would love a get away cottage. Land here is so high now it's almost impossible to buy any for the retirement days. I sure wish I had bought up some years ago when it was cheaper. I guess camp gounds will have to do when I want to get away for the week-end. We are re-modeling our camper, we have lots to do yet before we are finished. I hate white floors so we are putting down a floor that looks like hardwood flooring. Debbie-I also am thrilled to have you for the daylily swap. I hope to get an e-mail to you soon about several. Roxanne-Hope you and your DH are spending quality time together. Will expect to hear from you on Monday. Shirley |

I have had 3 surgeries in 18 months and was finally feeling like my old self again. I guess I have been doing too much 'diggin' in the dirt' for my back. Just like me!!! Trying to play catch up and do 2 years worth of neglected gardening in one summer. I'll look over your trade list tomorrow and e-mail ya. Carol.....I had promised a girlfriend some of that DL but she is going through a remodel and has a grandbaby literally due any minute. I talked to her a few weeks ago and she has put a hold on outside planting and is concentrating on other things right now. She said she would rather get it next year. So of course I thought of you. I'm really glad you found one. Roxanne |

| Dawn & all, just gotta share the news of the daylily induced baby boy who was just introduced on the unnamed daylily swap thread here in the RR Forum. Amanda got her swap last Thursday, planted all her daylilies & then delivered her baby boy in the wee hours of Friday!! Made me think she's a girl after your own heart, Dawn, LOL! She posted sweet photos on the thread. Paul, thank you so much for the glimpses of the LA Arboretum! Of course I loved the Bishop's Hat bud, too. (That particular photo looks just like my compound: assorted succulents, coleus, canna, cement, cracked pot & all...) Please do let me know if you upload more photos of your visits there. Sharon, forgot to congratulate you on the lovely cottage! That kitchen is so ROOMY and elegant compared to my RV - wishing you many happy times there. I slept thru the eclipse - hope you got to see it. MaryS was able to email me back finally - she has virus/anti-virus computer problems so can't get online much or for long. She & her family were not hurt by that terrible weather & her plants are recovering nicely from the rain! Happy Labor Day Weekend everybody - wishing you lots of laughs and the best of barbeques! |
|
| Marea, that cracked pot was given to us as a wedding gift. I had to change some of the succulents because they got too big, but the pot remains.. got the crack when it fell over during the Northridge earthquake. Lots of history there :-). Canna, I'd love a piece of the euphorbia. Also, if you have a small piece of the stapelia available, especially that first one, I'd be happy to have it. I'm trying to get a collection going... I can trade you something for it. Let me know. Dawn, thanks for the ID on the caterpillar. I've seen the butterfly. No crysalis thus far... I think the birds are picking them off. Great photo of that swallowtail. I've never seen one in person. Very cool. Love the house, love the slugger/linebacker. Have a safe weekend everyone. |

| Gloria and Roxanne-Sorry to hear you are having health problems. Anita-Glad to see you posting. I do see you over on Daves, that Calla Lily coop sounds good. Fall is moving in on us it feels really good early in the mornings and late at night now. I do love Fall of the year. Shirley |
|
| Hey Anita & Shirley! Good to see you both posting. Come back when you have more time Anita. : ) Shirley, i'm noticing that hint of Fall in the air too. Talon & I had to stay inside almost all Summer (boo hoo!!!) 'cause it was just too dang hot for a baby. Maybe we'll get to go out more now. I'm really looking forward to next year though. : ) Hi Carol! How's the new yard coming? What's wrong with our Mamabear??? Guess what???? The bricklaying is ALL DONE!!!!! Doin' the happy dance for DH! Hugs, |

| Dawn-Yes I can see why you would have to stay inside with Talon, this has been the hottest and driest summer ever. Yeah all the bricklaying done...I'm so happy for you guys. Just got home from a volleyball game. We lost but had lots of fun. Every year I say this is going to be my last but I just can't give it up yet. Debbie-I finally got the daylilies and the beautiful gourd you painted. Oh my goodness I can't believe you painted the gourd, you are a great painter. I must take a picture and post it so the others can see. I will treasure it forever and ever. After I went to our post office looking for it a lady said I had to call the PO in Charlotte, NC and that it was still there. I called the Charlotte Post Office and they told me about the breakable getting broken. She called my daylilies scallions, I thought everyone knew what daylilies looked like. She then asked me what I wanted them to do with the box. I said mail it on to me please, duh. Well anyway I got it today and love the gourd and these great daylilies: Shirley |

| Has anyone talked & or any E-mail's from Angie? I have sent her an E-mail about the 10 daylily swap, she said she was going out of town for a few days, but that was like 2-3 weeks ago, ANGIE if you are reading this we need to catch up on our swap..:)Anita |
|
| No word from Angie here... Oh Shirley, what a GREAT box!! So glad you got those super daylilies that I've read on your wishlist for so long! Dawn, Mamabear tore two of her ribs off the cartiledge & is one hurting bear !! A horse did that to me when I was a large animal nurse & life was ALL about my ribs for two entire months, it's worse than cracked ribs... I was pretty successful in my first year of hybridizing - been harvesting loads of seeds that are giving me visions of blue & purple sugar plums dancing in the breeze... |
|
| Hey Marea! Poor Mamabear! I know all too well the pain and agony that goes along with that injury. My husband suffered the same thing as one of the consequences of our motorcycle accident. It still bothers him to this day if he happens to strain himself. **Feel better Gloria!!!*** Marea, your pics are gorgeous! I agree that the name 'Black Spot' is a bit boring for such a stunner. It looks soooo velvety! 'Pomegranate Plush' When my birds eat pomegranate, it leaves a very lovely shade of a dark, blackish-purple, maroon-y stain on my walls. ; ) Great job with all the seeds! I can't wait to see what you come up with. 'Snazzy Memories' had quite a few blooms this year. A VERY strong plant! It is so much like Snazzy! Anita, I haven't seen Angie around in a while. Hope she stops by soon. Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of my positive pregnancy test. I can't believe how much time has passed since rubbing my eyes and squinting...trying to see that faint, pink line. : ) Happy Friday everyone! ~Dawn (mamabirrd) |

| Marea-Oh I'm excited about getting more daylilies. I have cleaned out some beds and now have room for more and more. LOL...Boy that lady at the post office gave me an awful lecture about the wine. Said it was illegal to send wine through the mail. I guess only if they open the box and find it. I had just ordered Susan P. Petit so I called and canceled it when you said you would be sending it. Thank you Gloria for my Susan P. Petit daylily. Hope your ribs are mending...Ouch I know they hurt. Marea-Love those daylilies...Wisest of Wizards has always been a keeper for me. Will have to think of a name for the other one. Shirley |

| I'm popping in to say Hi, and please forgive me for not posting. I have a hard time being two places at once.(I know , no excuse) I wanted to welcome Roxanne to the group, and hope your back is getting better. Wow, Talon is a big 3 months old now, and Dawn congrats on how well the house is coming along. Ok, I need to hit the road, but will promise to not stay away. You daylily pros sure know how to pack boxes. Maybe next year I will have some to play with. MammaBear hope you feel better soon. I miss Maryb, I will give her a call when I return home, maybe I will be lucky enough to catch her. It has been so hot here, plants looks kinda yucky! It was 88 today, but we did get some much needed rain. It is suppose to cool down sometime this week-End I'm on the road again! |

| Shirley...I am so glad you finally got your box, even if the wine got broken. It just shows how roughly the PO handles our boxes. As you saw, I had marked it "Glass" and "Live Plants". Wonder what happens if you don't mark them to let them know that there are fragile items inside??? I wish you had gotten to see the label though...It was made especially for you. Also, I have spoken to different people in various Post Offices about mailing wine. Each person gave me a different answer. One told me that it was okay to mail wine as long as it was under a certain proof. My homemade wine isn't proofed, even if it was, they wouldn't know what it was because they broke the d--n bottle;0) I'll bring you some when we go to Gatlinburg in the spring. Don't let me forget. Gloria...OUCH!!!That does sound really painful. Hope you heal quickly. Marea....Thank you for the nice complement about the wine. I'll have you a bottle waiting when you come and see me this spring. I can hardly wait to show you over the farm. Maybe when you get settled in your permanent home I can return the visit. Welcome Roxanne. Glad to have a new member. I've been away from the group a lot recently and have missed out on your joining. Now for the sad news...My aunt passed away late yesterday, she was cremated today, and there will be a memorial for her tomorrow in her hometown (London, KY). This is the aunt that I have been helping my cousin by sitting with her a few times a week. Maretta (my aunt) was 66 years old and died of cancer one month after being diagnosed. The blessing is that she is no longer suffering and is in a much better place. Hello to everyone...I have missed you, and hope to be back and more active in our group again soon. Debbie |

| Debbie and Annie what a nice surprise to see you posting again. We miss all the ones who can't post for whatever reason. Debbie so sorry to hear about your Aunt. Gentle hugs coming your way, will be thinking of you and all your family during this difficult time. Yes you had that box marked and it did no good, they just toss and throw and don't care what they break at the PO's. Still need rain here and lots of it, the weeds don't seem to mind though they grow regardless. DH and I have been weeding all the flower beds. I told him he needs to help before hunting season started or he can't go!!!!!!! Yeah right Shirley |
