    Yummy Shirley!

Sunday night we grilled out steaks, and had fresh garden green beans and potatoes. Our tomatoes have a couple of weeks to go though! I can't wait for the sweet corn!

Well, I'm going to go relax for a bit. I'll check back shortly!

Tracy, how ya doing? Are you seeing double? That way if someone (not me!, no , not me...) steals your box, you'll still think you have one! :O)

I can't believe I have had to wait this long and STILL no box chosen for me yet :(

    UGH, I hate waiting.

    Cute gnome.

Sassy, thx, I still feel like crud. I don't know what it is I just know I don't feel well. I haven't done anything all day today. I feel really bad! I haven't even played with my seeds today.

Well, Miss Frannie pants! You are gonna have to eat your words now aren't ya! I checked in all afternoon and now I'm home and ready to pick and still can't. SOOOO I guess it's not ME that is gonna make you wait is it!?! LOL
Ok, Ok, I should be nice to ya since you don't feel good, I hope you get better soon!
BTW, how is your SO doing with the smoking? Is he still quit? I am!! 6 months! AND 40 lbs! Yes, I said FORTY! How depressing, and what is even worse is that I have been sick all the time with one thing or another so I don't even feel like doing anything to help drop the weight. When I went to urgent care a couple weeks ago (for same sore throat I've had for 3 weeks now) the Dr. asked me if I had heard anything about being sick for several mos. after quiting smoking, he said he had heard other pts say that before, but that was it, and he dropped it. I have an appt in a couple weeks with a new Dr. Around here the really good Docs are not taking anymore patients and the next best ones take a month to get into! I really miss working for Family Practice Docs!

Ok, enough babble, I got to go take a pic of a flower that is blooming for me! Did you hear that?! I have a flower blooming! I am soooo excited!

I'll be back in a bit, gotta water the plants too : )

Vic-Congratulations with the smoking. I have heard that folks quit smoking and have alot of sickness..strange you would think they would feel better. I guess it would kill DH if he quit, he has smoked since he was 6 years old. But I can honestly say he is never ever sick.

I wish you ladies lived close and you could come to eat with me. I got run in by the wonderful rain that is falling. We need rain badly and it is pouring right now.

Sassy this daylily is Egyptian Queen which is in my box.

I sent Deb an email letting her know it's her turn.

Karen, nobody better steal my box again! I know, you would NEVER take it away from me. You're much nicer than some of these other girls. Bunch of thieves. LOL!

Ptilda, that gnome is adorable. I totally love it!

Sassy, you be nice now, ya hear?!

Fran, I'm sorry you are feeling so yucky. I hope you feel better quickly. I hate when the crud gets us. Sunday was no picnic for me. I am glad it's past. Get some rest.

Lisa, you are a big meany. Can't believe you left me in the dark cellar for all those hours and didn't even turn the light on. You have rats by the way.

I have a question for you and any others that have daylilies and iris, please HELP! I am having a problem with voles/noles/holes, what the heck ever you call them, they are really in both beds terribly, should I be moving them immediately, or what? Or please tell me what to do, and don't tell me to buy those 'get rid of voles things you stick in the ground'. I had a problem on the backside my shop last year, and they laughed at those! I finally was able to get out and water things awhile ago, and almost couldn't pick my jaw up! I can't let these little devils get my beauties!!!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!

Shirley, that is a beautiful Daylily!

Vic, congrats on quitting smoking. That is quite an accomplishment. I hope you get the health issues under control. That stinks that you've felt so crummy since you gave it up. Our family was getting every virus last winter and we started taking vitamin D tablets. It seems to help shorten the length of many of the viruses and I was able to keep clear of some of the bugs that came through after I started on it.

Sassy, I don't know if it's moles or voles that you have. I have moles here and found tunnels through out the shade garden recently.

I did a little reading on Wikipedia and it looks like you can smoke them out with poisons, smoke bombs or by flooding their tunnels. Voles eat roots and live in mole tunnels. Moles eat underground bugs and earthworms. Moles do the tunnelling and create a stash of all the worms they store, blech! I'll post the link to wikipedia that I read on Moles search after you're there for info on Voles.

Thanks Tracy, I'm really in a panic as to not let them kill my plants. 2 weeks ago it wasn't like this, now its aweful, and definitely underground tunnels. I stuck a fire hose up their a$$ that would have blown them away! But they're gone, I just don't know where:(( Sniff I will NOT let them have my babies!!!

Sorry girls, didn't mean to get off the fun of things. Deb, if I have to drive back to Chicago! I'll dig up your yard! hehehe (And take your houseplants!) I know that'll git ya! (Hugs)

    Hey Sassy,
You can read the link I posted below, someone told me it works. I don't know but I do remember that I was told you can at least try it. Juicy Fruit Gum is a least cheap enough.

Shirley, I don't live that far from you really, does that mean I'm invited for supper? hehe.
I would love to tour your beautiful gardens someday though, really.

Tracy, I have been not well since Saturday. I don't have a clue what it is, I know I don't feel well though. I have fought the urge to stay in bed all day, but if I don't feel any better tomorrow I just might.

VIC, GIRL, you know, I was thinking the same thing!!! I KNEW you would call me on it. I just KNEW it, I thought yeap, she'll call me out on that blunder LOL. Does it make you feel better knowing I NOW have my foot inserted well into my big mouth?
NO, he did NOT quit. Only for about 2 weeks. I am so mad at him, it just makes me sick! I told him about you quitting by golly. He has absolutely NO WILL POWER whatsoever!
Congrats on that though! Even with the weight gain it will be worth it in the long run, and you WILL begin to feel better.
I hear if you are having a lot of health issues to drink a beer once a day for a couple of weeks. Or one beer a week for a few months, something about it helping to clean out toxins in your body. They have to all be flushed out, which is why you are staying sick.
I quit in 98, I have more allergy problems now. I chaulk that up to him still smoking around me! If I think I am getting sick though I tend to load up on vitamin C. It helps me, maybe you just need to up your vitamens in general. It wouldn't hurt.

OK WHERE IS DEB???? SOMEONE needs to go get that girl!
DEB, DEB, oh WHERE could you be????

Sassy, let us know how the Mole/Vole hunt goes. I've been pretty lucky with pests so far... the cold freezes out everything but the deer & Irish Spring seems to work for them. I wonder if Irish Spring would work for your pests? It's worth a try!

Priscilla - The fussing goes on like this all the time. It's not your fault. Last month we all took a (virtual) trip to Lisa's house, in MA; and it was yammering, pushing, hair-pulling and name calling all the way! Fran told the truth earlier when she said Tracy even got in trouble for stealing plants out of a parkng lot. She blamed it on too many Pina Coladas but she's a bit of a trouble-maker even sober! LOL!

    Thanks for the congrats girls!

Shirley, this is the first time I've heard of ppl being sick after quiting and I've worked with family practice docs for 20yrs, everyone says how great they feel. It's hard to stick to something that makes you feel so bad when it's supposed to be good for you!
And, I love that Egyptian Queen! Are you trying to make choosing a box even harder than it already is???

Fran, tell that man of yours to quit being a SISSY!! LOL
But, I must confess, I have NO willpower either, if I did, there wouldn't be 40 extra pounds padding my.... well, you know! hehe
I'm glad you mentioned the beer, I was having a few tonight and now I don't feel the least bit guilty!

Tracy, stop trying to make excuses for stealing poor Lisa's box! We know you were planning it all along!

Sassy, I had HORRIBLE mole problems in Michigan, yes, they will destroy everything! Some things I found that worked (and I tried A LOT) were, Castor oil, I used it full strength and it worked great, but, you have to do it every few weeks and again after it rains, I also read that you can dilute it quite a bit and it still works but I didn't try that, by that time I had moved on to something even better! The easy set mole trap!! NOTHING is more satisfying than knowing you have gotten rid of the bugger for good! This worked better than any other trap or device I tried. The only way I found them was mail order, but it's worth it. The 3rd thing is to get "milky spore" do a web search and it will tell ya how/when to use it, it kills the grubs that moles are looking for, no grubs, no moles. BUT, it takes 2-3yrs for it to really work so you need some other help in the mean time.
I've done a LOT of research on the critters, they say that only one will be in the yard and they are territorial, I don't believe that, when I first got the mole trap I was getting them every day or 2 I got one that was the size of a squirrel!
If I still had the traps I would mail them to you but I sold them in my moving sale, the ground here is too hard for those nasty things.

Whew, what a gabber I am tonight, must be the Beer Fran is making me drink!
I better post this and make sure you are not waiting for me to pick a box, I don't want to give Fran the chance to get that foot outta her mouth yet! LOL (love ya Frannie)

sassy dear I know you're not lazy. It is a lot of reading to do too. From what I understand though about the gum is you put unchewed pieces of gum in there holes.
Not sure about the whole just of the deal. I didn't read it all either, LOL. Thx again, I hope to be feeling better in the next day or two I hope.

Ok, well, I see Deb is MISSING altogether and I can't hold my eyes open anymore. I am gonna take some more meds and head to bed. I will check in in the AM. Maybe someone will have located her by then.

Ahem, no one has untied the "drunk" yet. I would appreciate it if someone would though because after all that wine I REALLY need to use the "Ladies Room" to freshen up a bit. Pleeeeeeeeease?!

(muttering under my breath) Bunch of crazy women! Can't believe Lisa threw me in her cellar with those couple of rats she calls kids. Those guys were climbing all over me sniffing my ears and ratting my hair. Then I had to roll my way over to the steps, inch my way up and out the double doors into her dogs part of the yard. That was pleasant! Couldn't get on my feet and had to scooch through "you know what" till I got to the motor home. I hope she doesn't look for me for a while. I need to rub all this crud off on the carpet and upholstery first, heh, heh, heh. Clean freak is she? Not so much anymore. LOL! If someone doesn't untie me she may have another mess to clean up soon. (snicker)

I went to our local "big-box" store and saw a cart full of dried-up bulbs and other plants, including 3 different Peonies, marked down to $1.00. You know, the kind that are packed in a plastic bag with sawdust or (in this case) peat to keep them from molding?

It seemed that there was NO life left, but I grabbed one of each color & brought them home. I opened & they looked like 5-year-old sticks, with not even a HINT of soft flesh anywhere. Good news, is each bag had 2 roots in it, so I figured the chances were better of one of each color making it. So, I stuck them in a bucket full of water to soak, thinking that would resurrect them.

Sure enough, I went to check on them tonight, and EVERY ROOT HAD SIGNIFICANT PINK GROWTH ON IT! Sorry, didn't mean to yell, but I got excited! It's like they were dying of thirst & just needed that to come alive.

Tomorrow, I'm going to plant them in some 3-gallon pots I picked up at a garage sale, and put them out in the area that I plan on putting in a semi-sun garden. There's no real sun in my yard, but there is a spot that is somewhat open, and I have the choice of full-afternoon sun, or full-morning sun.

After I plant the new babies, I'm going back to get the rest. Anyone interested in my box want me to toss one in there? The names on them are; "Immaculee" (white double), "Edulis Superba" (pink double), and Rossa Plena (red double). For that matter, anyone wanna trade for a bag? Like I said, they come with 2 roots in each, and ALL of my roots have growth today. I'll take pics if anyone wants to see.

Ptilda, that is great! I'm glad they plumped up for you! I will have to look up those peonies in the morning as my eyes are so tired right now I can't stand it.

I won't have time to check in as often today, but I will try to have a peek close to lunchtime before the drinking starts up again and while everyone is still lucid.

Tracy, I surrendered already so you have nothing to worry about.

    Good morning all,

    Tracy has escaped!

I went down to the cellar to check on her and she was gone. I went out to the motorhome to see if she made her way there, I think she @#%$ herself!! She must have seen Sassys box out there. She didn't know that Sassy had already mailed me her box and all this was just part of the evil plan for me to get her box.

I won't be on much today, I'll be busy cleaning up after Tracy!!!

You ladies are too much......You should write a novel it would be a best seller.

My internet went out last night with all the storms...but we sure needed all the rain.

Fran-Yes please come anytime...would love to meet you.

Sassy-I'm so lucky about voles and moles, my dog digs them up and kills them....I love her.

Lisa-That little mouse is darling...you have a beautiful child there.

Good Morning, I know Alana, just restating the truce so their wouldn't be any worries. I didn't want you to think I'd secretly restock the arsenal. :O)

Happy Cleaning Lisa! Ah, what a glorious morning, the birds are singing, the sun is shining, my coffee is brewing, and your motor home is a little stinky.

Hiya Shirley! Do you have dog rental service? I many have to bower that pooch to do a little mole clean up here. Are the storms all passed or do you still have rain?

Hi girls I'm checking in been supr busy so not too nuch chadder from me
I hope all is well with Deb,

Vic I just have to put my 2 cents in on the smoking thing.
when I quit the advice I got to feel better was to do a colon leanse, that did the trick.
I went to a health food store and got the best ($25-$30) cleanse available. For years you have build-up in your system that cause all kinds of dease---ease and discomfort a good cleans will make you feel 100% better. And also drink alot of distilled water with lots of fresh lenom juice that helps to detox your lungs. Please try it you will be amzed!!!!!

OK it's off to work I go

    Morning, ladies.

So, if Deb doesn't show, what's the plan? I'm gonna be in and out, but can check in on my phone... it just does not get as fast of an internet signal, so it might not be as quick.

OMG, you guys sure have been busy! I knew I was going to need help keeping track of all the stealing. Yes, I'm kicking myself for not participating. (sigh)

Vic, I have to agree when I quit smoking I didn't feel that great for a while but then what is really amazing is how your sense of smell kicks in. Keep up the good work!

Since you are all listing things that will be in your boxes. I will start listing some things that will be in my box to whoever gets it.

Welcome ptilda, You will love it here, the gals can get a bit rowdy but you will find us a great group to hang out with. Can you please e-mail me your address so I can put add it to my master list?

Margaret, I hope you spirits are up, and take care of yourself.

Anita, How are you and we really need a little David fix :O) :O) PLEASE.

Hello to everyone else, I'll be back later

    LIFE IS GOOD,

Ah Pat, quit picking on me. Not drun, but I am a little hung over after all that wine at Lisa's. LOL!

I guess I'm typing too fast for my own good this morning. I had to hurry up and get on the road to get my little guy to the dentist for his appointment at 8:30. All is good in his little mouth so it was a quick visit. Love that!

For crying out loud! I meant to type "drunk" not "drun"! My fingers have a mind of their own today. Please excuse me, I need to go sit in the corner and get a hold of myself!

That's so funny! That time I thought you were just being silly!

Good news at the dentist always makes for a better day! Yay!

Lisa - I'm so sorry that I've been remiss in taking time to post on the board that I received my prize package from you. I sent you an e-mail when it arrived on Monday. I hope you received it.

To everyone else - Lisa sent me the nicest box of prizes from last month's games. For some game when I was the next person to post (it seems like we were waiting for Tracy to materialize but I don't remember why) she sent me some nice gloves and plant markers.

For finding that tiny Christmas tree, thereby putting an end to her 'I Spy' game, she sent me a plant off of my want list. She chose to give me Phlox 'Orange Perfection'. I was very excited to get this, as I've never seen it in my area.

And, just because she's so sweet, Lisa sent me another start from Larry's iris collection!

    I'm a lucky girl!

How quiet it is around here today. Not a single fist fight has broken out, and no one has exploded.
I will check back in later to see if there have been any casualties.
    Have a good afternoon.

Pat, those were really nice prizes! I am looking up 'Orange Perfection' right now... Oh Wow! It's stunning! I love that color of orange. Beautiful!

I am still forever in your debt for finally finding that silly Christmas tree. Thank goodness for your great eyes! LOL!

Karen, help me beat the bushes and see if we can scare Deb out. Wait, did you ever come home from the paper route? Karen? Kaaaaaaaren? Ok, I'll beat the bushes for you too! Where'd you go?!

Ouch! I think I just got whacked by a stick while hiding in the bushes....holding onto Lisa's box, waiting for the stealing to begin. lol and no, I haven't seen Deb, not in my hiding spot anyway!

I've been peeking in, just busier with the kids today (more of them!)

Pat, those are some nice prizes from Lisa. I also like the Phlox 'Orange Perfection'.

Fran, are ya still with us?? You haven't gone mad, waiting for your turn, have ya?? :) I hope you are feeling better!

Vic, I quit smoking about 10yrs ago and although I can't remember getting sick afterward (I got pregnant instead) all I can say is it takes time. I also substituted eating for smoking. When I would get stressed, I would find myself in the kitchen shoving food in my mouth. That still sometimes happens! I hope it gets easier for you soon!

I'll check in later, time to start lunch for everyone!
