The year is flying by - here we are with September. We lost some members during the year but hopefully everyone now is receiving something from her pal each month. If not, let me know!

So, does anyone in the group have a September birthday? I looked briefly and only saw a September birthday for one of the ladies who had to drop out. Don't be shy - if your birthday is in September, let us know!!!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Yeahooo!!! I got the greatest package today from Jeanne and she didn't even know it's my Birthday! LOL Well, so close it might as well be.
What a fantastic collection of plants she has packed into this box. So many things I have had on my wish list and some real surprises.
The box was accompanied by the first real rain in months so I will be able to plant things in a few days without worrying about them dying. How perfect.
Jeanne sent Camellia Sasquana, "Yuletide" This will be a treasure for many years. Probably for people who live here long after I'm gone. I am delighted to have this plant.
White balloon flower is new to me but attractive, Theflowers look similar to mock orange. I'll need to google this to determine the best location for it.
Goldenrad "fireworks" is another from my wish list and I'll be enjoying this for years too.
Three different kinds of sweet potatoe vines. They look very attractive together. I'm hopeing they will survive the winter as houseplants. Then in the spring they can go outside again. The dark burgundy and pale green are so pretty.
Three different mints, grapefruit, orange and mint julep. hope to bring a bit of there inside for the winter too. I love things that smell good and citrus is one of my favorites.
Well, the power just went off and it may be off for hours so I better post this and get things organised for the duration of the power outage. I have evrything I need but my battery does not last long in the computer.
More later, but a quick thanks.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Well, there is our September birthday! I looked it up from Beth's "My Page" and her birhtday is on September 3rd. Let's remember to wish her a happy birthday the day after tomorrow.
I'm glad you liked the plants. I hope they weren't in too bad condition. Makes you wonder about 2 or 3 day priority when it takes from Monday - Friday for them to arrive, but I guess the postal workers do the best they can. I planted the balloon flowers from seed last fall and they have been blooming here most of the summer. I have them in sunny and partial shade locations, but they seem to like sun best. I have several in a hanging pot on my deck and they seem to like that at least as well as being in the ground. The sweet potato vines should be fine if you can give them a little warmth in the winter. I put one variey of the sweet potato vines in my unheated attached garage for the winter and it went completely dormant but started growing again in the spring - although it was slow to do it. I may try a few indoors this year. They grow like crazy outdoors - I hope they don't take over my kitchen when they are inside!
Anyway, enjoy the rain and I hope it's just rain and not a bad storm for you.
I'll defintely be back to wish you a Happy Birthday on Sunday!
Hugs,
Jeanne

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Hey Jeanne, I'm back again. The wind stopped a couple hours ago and now the electricity is back on. As soon as it is light enough I'm going out to see what is left standing in the yard. I know A few branches came down before dark but nothing too bad at that point.
The new house did fine too, no leaks even around the windows. That sometimes happens in a real driving rain.
The plants you sent were all looking very good except the balloon flower but I think It will be OK too.
It is exciting to have Calla lilies that you started from seed. I didn't know you could do that. Do they need to come indoors in the winter? (like dahlias?) I grew them as pot plants in AK, so never tried then outdoors.
Mellen, I'll be looking for stuff to send early next week. When is first frost in your area? Do you plant many bulbs?
All for now.

Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday dear Beth.
Happy Birthday to you!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hope you have a wonderful day. (My singing is terrible so be glad you are reading the birthday song... LOL)

As for the calla lilies, I got a seed pod on my plant last year (have another this year) so I just brought the seeds in for the winter and planted the seeds in the spring. I think every one of them came up - had bunches! My momma plant is in a pot on the deck and I leave it out all winter, but of course it is colder where you are than here. I may take some of the babies in the garage for the winter here and leave others outside with mulch. That way I can see if both work. This is the first time I've had the baby ones in the winter so we'll see how they do. If your balloon flower plant doesn't make it, let me know and I'll watch for some seeds and send you some seeds. I also have plenty more of the three kinds of sweet potato vine. I just went outside and trimmed them back this morning.
I found the name of the bellflower that I sent. It is 'Elizabth.'
Well, that's all for now. Have a great day.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Thanks everyone for the BD greetings. It was a good day for working in the yard. I needed to after getting two boxes from swaps and a box full of hostas too. It was good to be here after the heavy rain as it told me not to plant in some places that I had planned to. They were underwater and will be deadly to plants. I'll need a couple more loads of fill dirt before I can do much more. I enjoy dreaming about how it will be "someday"
Jeanne, I started the oxalis yesterday too. I love them and have two other types on back order from Mcclure and Zimmer. I left a big beautiful pot of them up in Alaska witha friend. She says they are doing great.
Mellen, I'll probably mail on Fri or Sat. I'm struggling to remember what I have sent to you recently??? Daylilies??? If not I'll send some in this box. It is propably about the last month for you to be planting them.
How about hostas? Do you know about how late it is safe to plant hostas?
Oh, and I bought a new flavor of tastycakes for you but figured I should test them first. Right?? They were not very good so I decided NOT to send them. I ate them for you so you would not have to eat the second rate cakes. Wouldn't want to send you anything .... not up to par. LOL

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Beth - belated happy birthday wishes!

We're finally getting some rain here, although not enough to make a dent. But yesterday and today have been overcast with light rain. Temperatures are in the 80's, which is such a welcome relief from the 100's we had for much of August!

Almost ready for my movers who come on Thursday. One of my sisters is flying down to drive up to Illinois with me and my schnauzers, it will be a pleasure to have her company and her help with the dogs.

Hey you midwesterners, I have a question for you. Here in Texas, the best time to plant is in the fall, to give the roots time to grow strong before the long hot summer hits. Is it the same in the midwest, or is spring a better planting time?

Marie, I don't know if I'll get your September box in the mail before I move, or wait until I reach my new home. I'll post when I mail it.

Happy Labor Day y'all!

Alicia

Beth, a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!! We were in MO from Saturday til today visiting DH's relatives so could not get on a computer yesterday.

The last two boxes have been plantless due to the heat, I'm guessing. You did send me some daylilies earlier this summer-hostas would be a first. I LOVE them. Yes, Sept. is the last safe month we plant here. In fact, I like things in the ground in the next week or so. Our frost date is around Oct. 5. The arrival of your box will be perfect.

Alicia,

Wahoo, just a couple more days and you & your babies are on your way! Don't worry about sending stuff until you get settled ~ you have enough to take care of right now.

As per the ? of Fall or Spring planting ~ I plant most of my bulbs in the Fall to let them get a jump start but if you run out of time, Spring has worked for me also. They just don't do as well till the next year.

Have a Stress Free move and let us know that you get there safely,
Marie

Ann, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your father-in-law. You are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Susan, heads up, a package is on it's way to you. Conf. # 0306 1070 0002 8084 5527 . Sure hope everything arrives okay and that you enjoy it all! :) Oh, and you've got e-mail, too. Sent it a few days ago, so just thought I would post here incase it got lost. Let me know if you didn't get it and I will send again.

Hope everyone is enjoying their September so far, fall weather is arriving, the temps are cooling off, thank God. We desperately needed a break from those 100+ temps. It was 56 this morning, WOW. Hard to believe it cooled off so fast. We are thankful for it, though. How is everyone else's weather?

Got a five minute rain shower today. Yippee. LOL Sure need more rain. Maybe tomorrow, according to the forcast. Shows 42 with patchy frost for Sunday night. Definately cooling down.

Recieved my package today, in it was home grown purple potatoes (they will make the boys look twice), two grow kits, a fragrant flower mat, a beautiful welcome friends sign, (which is already hanging up), and a purple suncatcher. Thanks Marie!

I am so sorry to hear that your father in law has passed away. Your family will be in my prayers. I sent your package on Tuesday. Conf number 03061070000142356000.

Beth, Happy Birthday wishes a little late. I haven't had a chance to get on the computer this week. I am doing some training at work for a new job and it is burning up all my spare time. I think I am getting too old to learn new tricks. I hope that you had a wonderful birthday.

Ann, I am sorry to hear about your father-in-law. He and your family will be in my prayers.

Summer, I tried to email last night and messed up, emailed explanation, maybe you can sort it out, my save draft function doesnt work, then I end up forwarding, and, well, its ugly but its there. I think. O.k. also I have a disclaimer because I have major menopausal stuff going on here this week, flop sweating all over the place. Think I will go out to dig up new bed as long as I am going to be taking my third shower of the day....aaarggggggggh.

I see Alicia and her pups are on the way north! Hey Alicia have a Portillo's hot dog for me when you get there.....
Have a great weekend everyone...

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Well here I am again...Miss Summer's box came today, this is like Christmas for me, all my boxes came in today! Summer sent : a strawberry scent soap sponge, pumpkin spice tea lights, I love tea lights, a pretty yellow writing tablet with little purple and hummingbirds on it, a handbag with Claude Monet's Giverny garden in France printed on it, also an umbrella with the Giverny print, this is neat because I don't own any Giverny memorabilia, though I did visit there, plus the umbrella will fit in my purse which is good since I am always one to get caught in the afternoon showers here! I also received 3 magazines, Country Gardens (with 'Readers Best Idea-Packed Garden ideas' this is what I will be reading tonight),Country Home, and Traditional Home magazines. I love to read and will enjoy these magazines...Thanks for everything Summer your a great buddy. I don't know where you got the time to do this what with your move and all but I am glad you did. Susan

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Susan, so glad you liked everything! I saw the Giverny handbag and umbrella and knew I had to get them for you. Did the canna tubers arrive okay by the way? I will try and e-mail you later tonight, but today has been crazy so I will see how the rest of the day goes. Just have a minute right now, just wanted to say that I sure am happy to see you liked everything. :)

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. You're a wonderful group.
Karen your package arrived today. A wonderful end to a long week. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness each month. Karen sent a lovely ceramic cat that looks so similar to my Siamese cat Toby. It's beautiful. And I love the bulbs you sent (bright red tulips and hyacinths). I'll plant them in my new bed and look forward to next spring. The hanging bird feeder is great! We have so many late second rounders of baby birds that I don't have enough to keep them content. I'll hang it out tomorrow over the side deck. It will get lots of activity I'm sure. The gourmet coffee is a real treat that I'll share with my husband and the little bar of soap is perfect for my seashell soap holder beside the bathroom sink. The magazine has some wonderful ideas for fall containers - perfect timing! And I love the garden stickers. I have a small but growing collection of flower/garden stickers that I like to use with cards. Thank you for everything, Karen. You're a great exchange pal.

I just wanted to let you know that the box from you arrived today. The plants made it in great shape! I'm about to head up to bed - it has been a very tiring day - so will post more soon.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

I'm back to finish thanking Kelli. I loved what you sent, Kelli. First of all there were lots of hostas - and I didn't have any of the ones that you sent. It was like Christmas while I pulled one after another out of the box! I was to lazy to dig in the ground today so I have them in pots for now but they look so nice and healthy and did great coming through the mail. I also got a jar of blackberry jam that is really yummy - I had some of my toast this morning - and a garden apron, hat, and gloves. Kelli, as always, a great package! Thanks so much!
Hugs,
Jeanne

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Susie,
If all goes as planned your package will go out in tomorrow's mail. It should arrive around Wednesday most likely. I just haven't had the time I hoped I would have lately and I didn't get the chance to include a note. I started putting things aside for your package just after I heard you were out of the hospital. So it's something of a mini-comfort package with plenty of reading material to read as you were getting better. Sorry it's so late. Hope you enjoy it all the same.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Hi y'all, finally have a chance to check back in after arriving at my new home Friday night. My pups did exceptionally well travelling, I'm so proud of them. And they are exploring their new home, and getting to know their 2 big "brothers", german shepherds! Needless to say, it's been a little interesting around here.

The move went well, although my stuff won't arrive here until mid-week, so we'll see how well I packed. And I have an offer on my house already! So things are pretty good in my world. Is it you Summer who is moving to Dallas soon? I hope your move goes as well as mine has.

Ann, sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Marie, I hope to get your box out in a couple days. I started it in Texas, packed it in my car with me to Illinois, and want to add a few herbs from my sweetie's greenhouses to send to you. He grows most everything, anything in particular you'd like? Or like to avoid?

Alicia

 o
RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Alicia,

So glad to hear that you and your babies arrived safely and all went so well! I would love some herbs :), they only thing that I am not crazy about is mint... I planted some (at a different house) several years ago and it took over both yards, the drive way and a pasture, all in 2 years! It sure smelled good at my house went it rained though, hehehehehe

Suzanne, I am happy to hear that the potatoes arrived in good shape. But I feel bad... I forgot to put the other goodies in for your boys! Next month I will make up for it ~ :).

It has been a little hectic here since last Thursday ~ My daughter was on her way to her first Volley Ball game, she made the 'A' team! and while she was dressing for it, fell off the locker room bench. She broke her arm in 4 places, including both growth plates :( We find out tomorrow if they are just going to cast it or do surgery. She was so cute when she saw the x-rays, she started crying (it didn't seem to bother her at all till then) and said: " My career is over!" I felt bad but had to giggle as she will only be 12 this coming Friday. She seems to be handling it well except that I have to wash her hair and I am doing it wrong :)

Marie

 o
RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Marie,

Sorry to hear about your daughter breaking her arm. Do know how you feel though. My son broke his ten days ago also. During football practice. He didn't even get to play one game:( He's bounces back nicely though. In another two weeks, he'll get a smaller cast. will email you.

Alcia, glad to hear you and your pups made it safely to your new home.

Faintheart, your package will be going out tomorrow.

We're finally get some much needed rain. Been raining all day. :) Purchased a few new trees and perennial (astilbe)today. So can't wait to dig in the dirt and plant them. :) Hope the rest who needed rain got some.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

I got home from work tonight and found a box waiting for me from Susie!!! Yay!

Oh my goodness was it heavy!! I wasn't expect it to have such heft when I picked it up off the patio floor!

There were lots of goodies in it, as Susie thought of me when she found some good perennial finds... all three are supposed to do well in part shade: huechera, jacob's ladder, and geum. She also remembered that I can, and included a thingee to pick the cans up with- which was cool because I'm sure that will work much better than my metal salad tongs!! The heft of the package was from the cast iron weather vane that she included.

Thanks so much Susie!! You've outdone yourself as usual!!!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Alicia,
I'm glad your move went well. I've been thinking about you! I started to put your box together, and usually would have it mailed by now. I held off..just in case your move went a little slow.
Is your new yard complete? Do you need any outdoor plants, bulbs, seeds? Any specific colors?

Talk with you soon!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Suzanne,

Sorry to hear about your son. It is so disapointing for them not to even get to play the first game! This is kind of weird but... What are you using to keep his arm dry during showers? For previous cast's that Megin had I have tried EVERYTHING! Nothing seems to fit snug enough. My next experiment is those long gloves that the Vet's use for checking cows :) with a rubber band around it, I hope is does better than garbage bags hehehehehehe

Hope he recovers quickly!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Marie, so sorry to hear about your daughter, I sure hope she will heal quickly.

Alicia, yep it's me that's moving to Dallas. We are getting excited! Did you like living in Dallas? Looks like we are moving in about a month. We have so much to do. We are going down either this weekend or next to look at houses. I am so glad things went so smoothly with your move, I pray that things go as well for us!

I'm so sorry for the delay--it's been a busy week. I've got to little kittens living in my garage that my husband rescued from the side of the road over the weekend and I've been trying to find them a good home (and deal with their fleas!).

Jeanne/Sandlapper - you are very welcome! Glad to hear the jam was so good, I picked up Plum for myself but haven't tried it yet. The hostas should rebound well and will live just fine in pots for a while if needed. Enjoy!

Marie/Wynative - got the box--thanks! You really loaded it up didn't you? LOL! Thanks again for trading, we'll have to do it again soon. :-)

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Sounds like everyone has been receiving great packages this month. We had a whole day of fairly gentle rain yesterday so I know our plants enjoyed it.
I hope I can remember to say some special words to those who need them. If you have been ailing or dealing with something special and I forgot to mention you, I really am sorry - tried to do my best skimming through what was posted.
Alicia, best of luck in your new home! I haven't moved to a new place in a long, long time, but years ago I moved from NY to SC (arriving in Aug.) and that was a major temperature shock! LOL I think when I got here it was about 99 degrees and 99% humidity! Glad the pups were good for the trip.
Marie, so sorry to hear about your daughter's injury. I totally feel sorry for her. You, too, with the injury to your son, Suzanne. Hope they are on the mend and enjoying special attention from friends and family.
Susie, continued get well wishes to you.
Sassy, give us details about the wedding!!! I loved the picture of your daughter that you posted from her shower. She is such a pretty girl and I'm sure she was a beautiful bride.
Well, happy fall, everyone... it will be here before we know it!

Beth, I apologize for not posting last evening. Just found out yesterday after school that our neighbor and dear friend right north of us has leukemia. He's been told he has 4-8 weeks left without treatment so we went and spent the evening with him. Even though he is 80, I think he has decided to go for the chemo. We had many laughs and tears.

Anywho, your box was amazing as usual!!! I was so excited to receive plants. Thank you for the blue angel hosta, daylily snow blizzard, and sweet Kate spiderwort. I have googled them, and they are beautiful. They are all new to me, too. More and different Tastykakes. I LOVE these things, Beth. Addictive, you know??? And the darling bear figurine sitting on a pumpkin along with a caramel apple and pack of cocoa are perfect for getting in the fall mood. The evenings here and especially the mornings are really cooling off. Have been wearing sweats later into the evenings and wearing a jacket to school for the morning chill. It's been in the 50's in the mornings lately. It is my favorite season, though. Thanks also for the peanut M&M's. DH REALLY likes those, too. I like that they are the fight breast cancer ones. There is a breast cancer site that I go to daily before I look at anything else on the computer. You have probably heard of it. You click on the site and every so many clicks provides a free breast exam to a woman in need. For those of you not familiar with the site here is the addy:

http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CTDSites

Many thanks also for the magazines. I find much enjoyment looking through them. DH again thanks you for the gum. ;)))
Beth, you are the most wonderful pal. Thanks so very much again for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Mary Ellen

Yeah!!! Cool weather and lots of rain. Yipee!!!! It looks like we might be having an early fall here and I am more than ready for it. What a long hot dry summer we have had.

I received a beautiful postcard from West Virginia, covered with wildflower pictures. It was from Debbie, who is on vacation. Are you having fun Debbie? I know that I really enjoyed my vacation to North Carolina. What lovely country. We visited the Biltmore Estate and spent a lot of time in their georgeous gardens. My sweet husband bought me a beautiful bird bath from the gift shop. Then, when I got home my youngest son surprised me with the news that he had proposed to his sweety and they are getting married next July! I really really like this girl so am entirely happy.

Anyway, thanks again for the package. Son goes in on Friday for a shorter cast. Hoping its water proof. No showers, been taking a bath instead. Bless his heart, he don't complain. Last time though we did the garbage bag. :) Hope your daughter is doing better.

Faintheart, your package was sent last week priority on Wednesday.

Megin doesn't go in for a shorter cast till next Tuesday, if all is healing well. I love the idea of a water proof one but as she HAAAASSS :)to have an orange and black one for Halloween that may not work. I'll be sure and ask though. RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Wow, how can a week and a half have gone by since I've been here!??

Hope the kiddies with the casts are doing better. I didn't even know you could get casts in orange and black!

Summer, I can't say I was ever crazy about Dallas, which is sad to say about a place you lived 16 years! Gardening is challenging, but you can do it year round which I love. I generally liked the mild winters. It's not very attractive, but there's lots to do and lots of good people. Traffic sucks, lots of good restaurants, and lots of good garden centers. Good luck to you!

Deb, I'm sorry to respond so late to your requests. I am delighted to say I'm living on 5 acres here, it is absolutely beautiful. Lots and lots of room for more plants, bulbs, etc., I can't even begin to make a list. I would be delighted with ANY spring flowering bulbs in any color, for shade or sun. I have greenhouses available as my sweetie grows culinary herbs. So I'll be able to play with almost any seeds.

Carol, I think Rockford is just up the road. I'm in Wauconda. I grew up in northeast Michigan, so I know about long cold winters. I'll let you know how I'm dealing with it in February or March! Thankfully I've got those greenhouses to play with... In the meantime, I'm really enjoying the cool weather.

Marie, I STILL have not got your package in the mail. I will drop it today or tomorrow, and send you herbs later. I was going to mail it yesterday, but we had an incident with the dogs that required a visit to the vet and stitches, so yesterday went to hell in a handbasket, as they say.

Hey, anyone know how to change your GardenWeb name?

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Alicia,
Thanks for the update. I didn't know what to send. I wasn't sure if your landscape was complete, and you didn't need or want anything else. Now that I know, I can prepare a box for you. I'll have it out on Monday.

Carol,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful boxes! Carol sent- Yummy orchard fruits, I hope I'm reading the daylily right.. "All American" plus, tulip bulbs, cute wooden Halloween wall hanging. Bath set, frog candle, garden gloves, gummybear rat, plastic rat, and an unmarked pod or bulb? Carol, what is it?

Thanks sooo much, Carol!

Deb

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

I am so much enjoying this cooler fall weather. We have even been getting a little rain. I thought I would post a picture of the morning glories blooming in my yard. They are so pretty. They are also attracting a bunch of yellow butterflies which really make for a colorful display.
What does everyone else have blooming in their gardens?

 o
RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Karen, those morning glories are beautiful!! What are those called? I love morning glories, they are one of my fave.'s. In fact, I was just snapping some photos of my fence yesterday that is covered in self-sown morning glories. They are just plain ole' pink m.g.'s, nothing special. But I still love them. It has really taken over. Here's a couple photos of mine. (That is my neighbor's Okra patch behind it.)

And here's a Heavenly Blue blooming on my other fence.

I am sure enjoying this fall weather, too, Karen! It was quite cold last night, 48 degrees! Brrr! Quite an amazing change from the 100+ temp's. Hope everyone else is enjoying the weather, too. Happy fall everyone!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Summer,
Your morning glories look marvelous. The ones I posted pictures of are Grandpa Otis. A friend heard me talking about them and got me a plant. I will be glad to send you some of them once they go to seed. Anyone else in this robin want some?

RE: Moving

Karen, I would love some seeds, that would be great! Thank so much for the offer.

By the way, moving is coming along nicely. We've got a house we all like, the owner's have accepted our offer, and closing day is set for October 12th. We had an inspector go in and inspect the house last Friday, and he said nothing is really wrong with the house, just a few minor repairs, nothing to be concerned about. So it passed inspection, and onward we go. There is so much to deal with, and so many people/companies to talk to, PHEW! Who knew there was so much involved in relocating and buying a house. It's exhausting sometimes! But it will be over soon. And we will be happy in our new house/town, I sure hope. Here is a photo of our new house in Rowlett, Texas!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Summer,
I hope your move goes smoothly! Your house is beautiful! I love brick homes! I made the mistake of putting boston ivy on mine (don't do it, LOL) or you'll be spending so much time trimming the ivy around the windows, doors, etc. Yes, the house looks like a cottage..but I'm so tempted to just rip the ivy off on some days (after hours of trimming)! It turns crimson in the spring/fall (and is really gorgeous). Anyways, it's so nice to hear from you! ;) I missed you.. you didn't sign up for the Halloween swap. Better stop typing, I'm in my 'novel' mode, LOL!

Alicia,
Your package went out today, USPS #0306 0320 0005 0614 2138. I hope you enjoy your packed box! ;)

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Stephanie/pastvast! Your package did arrive (uhhhh, last week, oops.). Thanks for the garlic--I've been wanting to grow some but never get around to picking it up. Stephanie also sent me a package of Allium bulbs (I've been planting more and more alliums every Fall!) and a much needed rain gauge. I picked up a rain gauge for my pal a while back and never got myself one, so it's definitly appreciated!

I am sorry it took me so long to post. If you could see my bathroom right now....hubby decided it was time to remodel and ripped out everything but the tub and is still putting it back together. I did get an almost entirely new bathroom out of the deal though. ;-)

Thanks again Stephanie!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Summer - congrats on your new house! Rowlett is a nice suburb of Dallas, a friend of mine lives out there. Are you near the lake? And one of my favorite nurseries is out there too, so check it out when you have a chance. Covington's is the name, and they have a website too. Interesting gift shop, and their 50% off greenhouses often have some great plants.

Marie - your package went out today, sorry it's so late. The post office here has one of those automated postal machines - except they lock it up when the post office closes so you can't get to it!

Alicia

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Susanne - Wow, glow in the dark! Very COOL! Meg got her short one on this morning, just black and orange. I don't think they had any glow or maybe they just didn't say so. I bet he is as excited about the shorter size and and it being so much lighter, Meg sure noticed the difference.

Alicia ~ thanks for letting me know and I'll post here when it arrives.

All the morning glorys are lovely. I have Grandpa Otis and another ~ white w/ purple veins. With this cooler weather they are doing so well. My moon flowers, petuna and marigolds are enjoying it also.

Summer ~ Great house! Good luck with everything.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Thanks dear! I get a kick out of those things!

I received a package from Dee yesterday which included a nice card, some Lilac Datura seeds, seed packets, a copy of Taste of Home magazine, next will be so nice for this weekend, because on Friday I'm off for a weekend at my riverhouse, I call it. Dee sent Spa Essentials scented Candle, which smells so heavenly! Also the body soak and body wash. All of it just smells so soothing, can't wait Dee!

Dee also sent a Modella bag stuffed with a small pack of kleenex, hand sanitizer & lip balm, which is perfect for this time of year.

The best for last!
Dee sent me a hosta she grew from seed, an open pollenated
baby of Tokudama Flavacircinalis and named it for me! How awesome! With my very own professionally printed metal plant name tag...

H. Diane's Dreams

Dee thank you so very much, I love it all and my hosta will be treasured forever!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Congratulations to you Marie!!! That is wonderful news. And what a neat name. Let us know how the meeting goes. How exciting!

Well, I came home to a package waiting for me on the porch! All I have to say is wow, Diane. Another package where your generosity just blew me away. I can't believe all the great things you sent. Being your pal these past two months has really made me so happy. Your packages bring me so much joy, and they seem to come right when I need them, too. I really hope I don't leave anything out here. Let's see, this is what she sent me!

-A pretty dragonfly garden flag
-Some pumpkin Peeps (Yummy, I love peeps)
-A beautiful glass gel candle full of different kinds of red flowers. But I can't place the scent, I know it is familiar, though. What is it?
-A magazine, "Cooking With Paula Deen". Looks like some great holiday recipes are in there, like Pumpkin Pudding, and Cinnamon Ripple Sweet Potato Cake. Mmmmm.
-Some great fall deco, I love decorating for fall! An adorable ceramic pumpkin container, and three fall leaf dishes. And luckily, the movers have to come next month and pack all the breakables themselves, for liability reasons. So I can leave the breakable stuff out until they come! So I set these up. I love them!

-A really big king frog garden statue. He is beautiful! I can't wait to set him up in my new yard next month! He will look great there.
-And a statue that I just love. (My mother fell in love with it, too, hehe.) It is bluebirds and a nest, sitting on a pair of old boots. Right up my alley, it is the cutest thing!
-And last, but certainly not least, a box of Milkbones and a pack of chewy sticks for my furry babies. They will love them, I appreciate you including them so much, that means a lot.

Thank you so much again Diane, you are such a great pal.

~Summer

RE: UPDATE: Rowlett

Oh, Alicia, yes we are very close to the lake. I really like Rowlett, too, from what I have seen of it. That nursery sounds great! I think I might've seen it when we were there, we drove by a nursery and I commented on it. Don't know what the name was, though. I will definately have to check that one out.

Susan, nope, haven't sketched out anything for my new garden. But I have an idea in my head of where I want to put the things I'm taking with me. I am horrible at sketches, I have tried it, and it didn't work for me, lol. Glad you liked the photos of my babies, hope to hear from ya' again soon, and hope to see some pictures of Otis and the cats sometime, too!

Thank you for the nice comments on the house everyone. We all really like it out there. Deb, it is great to hear from you, too. Sorry I did not sign up for the Halloween swap. We have got so much going on right now, didn't want to get involved in another swap right now! Hope to take them up again after we get moved, though. There is a big house near here that is covered in ivy. I know it must be a big pain, but I think it is kind of neat looking!

Jeanne, I sure hope you are doing okay, haven't seen you post in quite a while. Let us know how you are!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

I received my package from Debbie, and once again she has outdone herself. Debbie sent a quilted casserole dish cover that she got in the Amish country along with a tinfoil casserole dish and lid. I just love it. It will make it so easy to take a casserole or cake to a potluck. She also sent a can with a magic bean inside that is supposed to tell my fortune after it grows. What a cute idea. I can hardly wait to see if it really works (and what my forture will be) Thank you so much Debbie.

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Suzanne, Thank you soooooo much for the package of goodies I received. The dragonfly windchime is so cute! The seed baggies are much needed at this time of year. The Fall notepad will be used a lot as I seem to be writing more and notes to myself these days! lol The magnetic picture frame is going on one of my file cabinets at work and I am going to rotate pics of my garden blooms during the dull drab winter months. :) The manicure set and address book/note pad are going in my suitcase...perfect for business travel! The books are super...I seem to be stressing a lot lately and these will be a welcome retreat after a hectic work day. The "water dancers" are sooooo unique and neat! I have them in a dish right now with some of my dahlia blooms floating...so so cute!!! I absolutely love everything and so want to thank you!!!!!

Hugsssssss,
Dee

Lol, Karen probably alot more than we realize!
Tell the birthday boy a belated happy one for me!

Well I just got home from the most relaxing weekend at my NC home, and I've gotta tell you its been a long time! I didn't realize just how bad I needed a getaway! Dee, I couldn't tell you if I had to much I loved all the Spa goodies! Wow! I looked like a swiveled up 'old' prune when I got out of that jacuzzi, but felt soooooooo wonderful. That is is best stuff! I had the hardest time deciding if I could stand to leave it there for next time!
lol Just peaked at "Diane's Dream" looking fine!

RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Diane, you are very lucky to get your own plant named after you. You will have to post a picture once it gets big enough. How exciting.
I finally broke down and ordered some of the blue toned daylilies I have been drooling over all spring and summer. I sure hope they turn out to look as good as they do in the pictures. Does anyone else in the group have any? I ordered
"In the Navy" and "Palace Garden Beauty". It usually stays pretty warm here until Christmas, with only a few cold snaps, so they should get a good start from fall planting.
Do any of the rest of you do much fall planting?

 o
RE: UPDATE: September - Garden Circle Exchange Ring

Marie, congratulations on your new grandniece. Did you get to see her this weekend?

Deb, I was out of town most of last week, headed Tuesday back to Dallas for work. Your box arrived Tuesday, so I got to sort through it on my way to the airport. Haven't had a chance to post until now. Thank you for all the wonderful stuff, I'm gonna find places for them today or tomorrow before I head back to Dallas for hopefully my last work trip. I received tulip bulbs, and I hope they ARE red - those will be spectacular! Also purple hyacinth bulbs, daffodil bulbs, and bulbs for bearded iris "Music Maker". These look beautiful, sort of a deep purple-black color. And then some orange tiger lily and purple (or purple and white) iris. Plus seeds for several different flowers. Another great box Deb - thanks for your generosity!

Y'all have a great week!

Alicia
